A few months ago I purchased a new laptop - a 17" Toshiba Qosmio G45 (anybody know of a way to downgrade to XP Pro from Vista?). An unanticipated problems arose as I was planning for next weeks trip to Oregon on the Uly - no place to put a laptop that big. I began checking out the Pelican cases online and determined that the Model 1600 would be large enough for the Qosmio and its carrying bag. About a week later the case arrived . . .and my next challenge was, "How the hell do I attach this thing to the Uly?" Here is what I came up with . . .
I fabricated a removable bracket that attaches to the Caribou brackets. The new bracket supports the triple tail which the 1600 case is attached to. The front of the case is held down with a strap that goes under the grab bar. Here is a close up of the bracket . . .
The case is bolted through the triple tail and onto the bracket. So far, my only regret was not ordering a case big enough for my helmet . . . YMMV . . .and always consider the source. Don |

Buy an OEM copy of XP Pro from newegg.com $129.99 with free shipping. Load it on as a dual boot system, most laptops have recovery stuff for the main OS and you may not want to lose that if MS ever gets their act together with Vista.... Is that a passenger floorboard? |

You have a very keen eyesight for detail, Ronald. The new possible GF comes from a more tassled, chromed and fringed motorcycle background . . .and said the Uly passenger pegs were not as comfortable as floorboards. My answer, fabricate floorboards using a spare set of Tourtech pegs. I have a new XP Pro and have already discovered it cannot find drivers for the SATA Raid HDD . . .and Toshiba isn't cooperating saying, "The G45 was designed for use with Vista only and we do not support any XP downgrades." So far, no drivers . . .no XP install. Would it be possible to reinstall Vista into a dual boot with XP Pro? Thanks! Don |
