NE1 have any Uly parts\ YIKES Chad, just noticed the photo's of your bike on ADVrider. Are you OK? I have some spares ie. shifter, linkage, and others for the Uly. Your bike going to be a salvage? Appeared that most damaged side may have been down in the trailer. How's the frame? Hope your OK! Bike can be replaced. TIm} |

I am fine, just got a scratch on my nose, and on my neck, the gear did its job and didnt even get very damaged. It will probably be totalled the adjuster said, so I will have a salvaged bike when its all said and done. Here is a pic of the bike for you guys that are curious that have not seen it yet.

Ouch Chad. Glad to hear you are OK. The Uly M2nc and I rode in on at Southern Pines is a "totaled" bike. You'll find that the estimate has every little scratched piece on it. You'll probably end up replacing 1/3 of it and have character marks like the rest of us. It's an adventure bike, right? Our sponsors were great in helping get the bike on the road. I made a spreadsheet of the parts I needed and sent it to 2 or 3 dealers to see what they had in stock. Got those items on the way and then ordered the rest. Good luck and we'll see you sometime soon. |

Chad, sorry to hear it but glad you are okay. You can always fix or replace a bike, you can not replace you. If I can help in any way let me know. I was there last year.

Sort of looks like the forks were designed to break like that. Glad you're ok. Was that on road of off? |

Xdeth what happened was I was at a fork in the road and changed my mind on direction to late and went right up over the median. Hitting the median(about 4" high) broke the forks) gave me no control and it was in the man upstairs hands from there. Luckily he was on the back of the Uly with me! |

Jim, that was off of 17 about 2 miles north of the SC border. Riding back from bike week in SC, rode down for the day. |

Chad_nc, Glad you are alright. Bikes are fixable. And I just sent you a PM because I can help you out with some of your needs as I still have all the parts (minus wheels and handlebars) that are left after going from this-
to this-
Sorry the 'after' picture is so crappy - I had to lighten it as I got done with the air box cover install at dusk one night. And as U4euh alluded to (but those weren''t the adjustments I was referring to), it doesn't look or sound exactly the way it did when that picture was taken...
A few servicemen riding Jap sportbikes stopped in at Chopper Toyz today when I was there exchanging the Frogg Toggs that I had won Thursday night for the proper size and they were blown away by the translucid air box cover. How cool is that?!?! 1313 |

Brankin...the bike is looking very nice. Can't wait to hear it and see the next "you know what"! I've been working killer overtime, so a nice catch can might be installed soon. |

So I decided to weather the heat and take a ride today. The highlight of the ride was in Havelock. The Marine Air Station had the air show going on and the grand finale was the Blue Angels. I just happen to be there at the time the Blue Angels were flying and you could see just fine from the roads surrounding the Air Station. I had planes over head at least a dozen times as I passed through town. The Uly did very well in 100°F temps. The ride was enjoyable for most of the ride. The bike surprised me with the fan only running about half the time. Of course I was on two-lane roads for the most part tooling along at 60-65mph. Still considering it's an air cooled bike in triple digit temperatures I thought it did pretty well. |

So I can't leave well enough alone:
Truth be told, the silver paint I used previously didn't sit very well, nor the primer before. Even after sanding the primer the silver paint still did some funny (but I weren't laughing...) things. Now it's the same Graphite Grey as the frame - and the paint still ain't perfect - with a little 25th anniversary sticker (affixed with spray mount adhesive since the stickers adhesive stayed on the card rather than on the sticker). We'll see how it holds up, but I miss the zing of having the silver reflect light. Now back to the utilitarian nature of the XT-BOLT. With my upcoming trip to Germany, that necessitated that I ride to East Troy first, my Mom suggested that I ship my suitcases up to her rather than ride with them on the bike all the way home. Initially I thought why bother, but after having the suitcases on the bike this morning when I rode to work, and only being able to see about a half inch of traffic visibility through my mirrors and not being able to see anything if I turned my head, I decided that - as always - Mom is always right. It was kind of funny seeing the reactions on peoples faces as I took the package to the Havelock UPS facility after work tonight. The first bike I met gave me a hell of a lot more than a 'thumbs up' - it looked like he was rallying the troops he was so darned excited. To see what got him so excited, check out the pics below. Sorry these were taken with the work camera so the pics may not be as good as my normal ones...
And the Line-X'ed grab handles that the ratchet straps were hooked to performed FLAWLESSLY - you can't even tell that they were used! Not to mention all the comments I got at work today, but they already know I'm strange, odd, peculiar, weird, unique and different - take your pick, they all apply... 1313 |

Congrats Jason! Very nice bike. Hope to see you in WV come August. Finally ordered parts for the Ascot. Hope to pull the exhaust while I'm off in July and drop the headers off to be coated. Will also pull the carbs for some much needed cleaning. After that, the fun really begins! (Message edited by twig on June 11, 2008) |
