Here's Destination Highways' take on the Spense's Bridge to Merritt section: "A Clint Eastwood spaghetti western could have been shot in the dry, narrow, red rock canyon at the twisty western end of this lightly travelled trail. Running from badland to farmland, this DH traces the path of the Nicola River. The curves are usually good, rarely bad, and where a few blind and decreasing radius corners sneak up on you, downright ugly. As you get closer to Merritt, the valley gradually rises, softens its harsh tone, and widens out-- first to forest, then to field. The curves follow suit, gentling as you head east. So climb on your Harley, light up a cheroot, and grab a fistful of throttle." Dang. These guys write better than I do! Have a look at www.Destinationhighways.com. (Sorry, I can't seem to get the hyperlink thing to work.) We will be on DH3,DH9,DH26,DH69TE-A,DH68,DH77TE-A,DH11. Click on them to get a read of what we're up for. I still can't find a damn map that's legible. |

So, try it again, Rick. Don't forget about me. What's involved ($$$) making a California Triumph Sprint RS into a 49 state bike? |

Keep trying,Ricky. Hey! Are there any Buellers in the Okanagan that might want to do the Duffy to Whistler and back the next day (Sunday)? Or join us for the Green Mountain Road on the Monday? Someone should put up a note at the Kelowna Harley shop, or Kamloops? |

I done been outa communication, as I was at DONNER, don't ya know. A great 15 hr's each way. Really some amazing roads. NO COPS ON MY SCREEN. I'll let BOB tell his little story. Had a fella ride his X--1 into the dirt during a tank slapper, right next to me. Wa s quite intriguing, to say the least. My net6 is off, I'm at the lib.... CAP, no problrms about the bed. Floors walls, the ground, any combination thereof.... sooner, GALEN |

Well I'm back from Donner what a trip. Sorry I didn't see you Galen. Bob will have to give the full report on Short Trax racing. Boy did I ever feel slow out there with the likes of fast guys with real bikes. My nite started a little rough when I qualified 31st, the cut off was 40 bikes. To my suprise the first race of the evening they called number 36x, heck thats me. The reason I was in disbelief was the #1 qualifier was out there already on the grid with his Husqvarna 610sm was none other than Don Canet editor of Cycle World magazine. Gulp. There I go up to the line put put put on my 9 horse TTr125. Im dead. Then I started to quickly do the math. His lap time was 10.19 mine was a 12.02. Crap I don't want to get lapped in a 6 lap race. I managed to stay on the lead lap barely and Don finished 2nd out of 4. I felt how what it was like to be at the back of the pack the majority of the night. My heat races went as follows a 2nd a 3rd and 3 4ths. Had a good laugh then went to bed. Mike |

Yes! We are Back! 13 Hours on the road from Susanville. Debbie won a Trophy in Battle Trax on her Speed Tripple. She has many regrets not being able to spend more time at Bonkers cabin. (me too) I didn't fare so well in the Racing department this time. We were so pumped about racing and come to find out we were racing the Pro-Supermotard crowd. Mike Wood actually did well despite the Handycap we had! He also had to Race Don Canet! (How Cool Is That?) I couldn't seem to get it together in my qualifier. On the warm up lap, I Lowsided the Bike spinning around in a 360 and doing a backwards summersalt. (can you say Pain?) I planted my left Knee and Shin while all was happening. I did end up qualifying and racing all my races but due to worrying about planting the knee again in the next Lowside, I decided to play it safe and just get through the night. (I still had a TON of FUN!!) Chris Taylor had his Buell out there and did remarkable!!rubbing elbows with the Motard Boy's!! I'll let his tell the Tail. He did have a Lowside in the Battle Trax the next day however and I'll let him explain that too. Thanks Mike for hauling all my stuff there! More later, Bob |

Glad to hear you'all had fun at Donner, Bob. Are we OK wih an overnight Sunday at Kelowna rather than Osoyoos? Sportyeric has been doing his home work: For a testimonial about each section, go to ww.Destinationhighways.com For a map,use www.hellobc.com Vancouver- Whistler(Saturday), about 80 miles Hwy99, Destination highway (DH)#28 Whistler-Pemberton, 20 miles Hwy99, DH28 Pemberton-Lillouette, 60 miles Hwy99, DH3 Lillouette-Lytton, 35 miles Hwy12, DH40 Lytton-Spenses Bridge, 30 miles Hwy1, DH29 Spenses Bridge-Merritt, 35 miles Hwy8, DH9 Merritt-Logan Lake, 30 miles Hwy97C, DH69 Logan Lake-Kamloops, 30 miles Hwy249, DH 69 Kamloops-Dallas-Vernon, 65 miles Hwy1, then Barnardville Rd (DH68, then hwy 97. Vernon-Westbank (Kelowna), 35 miles Westside Road, DH11 Total distance for the day seems to be 350 miles, from Whistler to Kelowna (YRMV), with a few bailout, or short-cut routes available on request. Then, Monday heading south from Kelowna, we get the Green Mountain Road and its connectors, rated DH6,DH 63, then DH 17, heading to Osoyoos or Keremous, depending. These Dh numbers are a rating system for the book, which is "a motorcyclist's guide to the best 185 roads in Southern BC. The ones we'll be on all rate pretty high.

Hey everyone, I guess all are OK with residing in Kelowna for the Sunday night. I'll be in Kelowna this Saturday on the look out for Hotels. If possible I'll try and reserve a condo for us. If not I'll reserve a couple of rooms and give you guys the info on Monday. I assume we'll be looking at 10 to 12 people? Jim, Eric, and I have a pretty good route, with an alternate for those who feel a bit numb. Eric's posted the mileage and like Bob said "Any misstakes and it'll screw up the schedual"(not worded exactly)The Americans with us may want to get an idea of their route back south of Osoyoos. Sorry I have no map to show, but heading west back to the I5 then south, wouldn't make sense. I Think you can get back to hiway 12. I'll post the hotel info on Moday. |
