Neil - There are 3 DTCs associated with the AAS. P1110 - Active Intake Control Circuit Short Low/Open P1111 - Active Intake Control Circuit Short High P1112 - Active Intake Control Throttle Position Sensor Feedback Failure The first one comes on if you unplug it. I've seen it. The second is if the wires are shorted together. The third, I presume, will throw if you disconnect the cable. I haven't seen it, but my cable is connected. I tried it disconnected for a day or two with no codes. Harlan - no secret, 3rd gear, 4850 rpm, WFO. Z |

Z: Help me with my memory (CRS is striking early) did someone post that the AAS had other functions than just during the 3rd gear 4850rpm RFA scenario? Or was it just my nightmares coming to life? With a cable type actuation, of the AAS, it would not have too much finesse and could only operate in an all or (almost) nothing scenario. (Seems like the old CV carb days where you didn't really have control of the throttle). It's not like a dashpot that could dampen some fluctuations (IMHO). Thx Neil S. p.s. How's the new job? |

I spoke with a very reliable factory source this morning. For racing, you may remove the AAS cable as it's only function is to meet the Fed. noise db limit test. Removing the AAS cable will not effect drivability and will not throw a code. If you disconnect the wire connector on the 'noid, it WILL throw a code. |

Neil - I recall some discussion about a myriad of maladies being attributed to the AAS. Only confirmed utilization is for the EPA-dB limit in 3rd gear. Confirmation in print, in Elect Diag Manual; verbally with BMC-CS to me. New job is fun, hard work, great environment. Always wanted to work in a Harley shop, bonus is it's VERY Buell-centric. Caveat - haven't seen a paycheck yet... next week. Z |

huh? I guess you are questioning which process I have to document? Let's see, would it be how to fill the tank, hmm no. Maybe how to change the tires, hmm no. How about something to do with the AAS and how it is hooked up to the t-body linkage, hmm yep. Ryan you are one sharp dude :+}. I only do these sort of things so I can A) Change it back if it doesn't work and B) Show someone else what I have done. Time2Work Neil S. |

Well, more curious on what it is you are trying to see or do. I'm going to go with if disconnecting the AAS where it won't throw codes will in fact fix this issue. If someone would do this and report back that is having this problem we could move forward. At this time, it's a stand still. |

Yeah... I may get to that, not sure if I can/will before I get back home on the 14th though. Would like to try it out before my track day however |

Update was done to my bike and the cable on the AAS is disconnected. No codes related to the AAS yet. Its been disconnected for about 200miles. |

Michael: How is your 25r reacting to the flash? Mine is doing better as far as the surging and overall rideability. My only issue now is the "stall" at 51-53mph in 3rd at WFO. If I can get ride of that, then mmine would be 96% perfect. The remaining 4% would be below 4krpm but even at that it is much more rideable after the flash in that range. Maybe Sunday I'll have a few free mins to play and document. Time4Sleep |

Ccryder The bike seems to be running ok. Still a little more surge than I like under 4000rpm. I guess its normal until another program comes out. I think that you might be happy with your bike after the AAS cable is disconnected. It sounds like it might be fighting you in the 50mph area. The AAS is not progressive, its all or nothing and I feel this is the stall or severe hesitation that people are experiencing. It seems like a dangerous way to control excessive noise. |

i know for me that disconnecting that cable made that lag go away. hasn't happened since. on another note, after dealer work the WOT felt wrong and upon inspection, full grip twist did not have the throttle butterflys fully open. there was some twist to the controller bracket causing some binding. i straightened it out paying close attention to where the butterflys were at different throttle openings. i still had the occasional lag until i disconnected the cable. last night i checked at what rpm's 1st and 2nd gear speeds were and for bucking. 20mph in first is about 4000rpm and 4000rpm in 2nd is about 45mph. no bucking at 20mph in 2nd, but 20mph in 3rd was not good. full throttle rollons from 2000 rpm's were smooth and consistent in all 3 gears. i need to check my AFV's. i have 2800 miles on the 2nd engine. at slower speeds and going through turns i usually keep the bike in a gear where maintenance throttle is about 4000rpm's or a little higher. what's the punch line to that old doctor's joke? Doc, it hurts when i do this. don't do that! tim |

Does anyone get some popping from the throttle bodies when they get out of the throttle and let the RPM's get down around 2700? In first gear I can let the bike run all the way down to idle. In 2nd through 6th gear if I engine brake below the 2700 RPM mark the bike will stall. Any thoughts? I have the reflash. The bike idles great and and acceleration has really smoothed out with the reflash. I really don't have any answers to this one. I know it has something to do with the map but unless other people are having the same problem I can't say that for sure. Can anyone else chime in on this one? |

Hayabusa, I got it once in a while pre flash , I get it alot post flash , I can never reproduce it at will , nor can I give you the exact conditions when it occurs , but she seems to do it whenever she wants , you can feel the air box cover expand and feel like she's gonna blow her top ! |

Hayabusa: Mine has never popped pre or post flash. I don't really engine brake that low so I don't know. Being a low flywheel inertia engine, it may not like that scenario unlike my 12r did. Neil S. |

Would'nt the slipper come into play as designed when engine breaking ? |

I ran Loretta for a few days without the inner airbox, I noticed the slipper didn't work as well. Slid the rear tire more than a few times. Hardly any slide, even with hard downshifting, with the inner back on. Z |

Mine pops while engine breaking, but so did my XB9S. I do not have any of the lag or stall symptoms others have reported. Personally I kind of like the popping sound. Is this something to be concerned about? |

I get a lot of back firing and popping in the airbox on decel. Will often die upon pulling in the clutch, of even after a second of no load. Not sure what's causing it, but it sure is annoying! |

I agree that it is really annoying! Popping is usually a fuel issue...I can't remember if it is lean or rich that causes it. But given that the new map was supposed to correct a lean condition at the bottom the bike is probably running rich which is putting some extra fuel in the motor on deceleration. Like I have said early, the map has fixed some problems but caused others. |

Cutty: It could be mapping or, intake leak or, exhaust leak. It's time to tell the Dealer that something is not right, before it gets real bad. Later Neil S. |

Yeah, I agree. Going to try to get to the Buell dealer in Ames while I'm down here. I guess there are a couple real buell guru's there. My dealer back home is not real buell orientated. It's getting worse with warmer temps, and with 2200+ miles, it's beyond a "break in" prob. |

Folks, I don't know how else to say this, but what are you doing riding around at those low RPM's? (What for!?) My bike is rarely below 4K and never below 3K and I think it runs incredible! |

Dtx, I tend to think the same thing...but then thats probably how some people get 35+MPG and get 6,000+ miles out of a rear tire. I don't profess to be anything but maybe slightly more throttle happy than the next guy, but my MPG is stuck at 28-29 and I consistently get about 4,000 miles when stretching a rear to the max (ie, showing steel.) |
