heres an odd question, are the faring brakets for s3's different acording to year or is there 1 for an s2 and 1 for an s3, just wondering because i bought one for an s3 but its to small on the arms to hold the dash, and now i am wondering what it is for???? or if i can find a dash from an s2 to get me by for know?? any ideas would be great but anyone with extra parts would be better let me know ROger | ||

Roger: That is a mount for a 99' and up S3 fairing. There are some differences b/t the 99 and previous years. The 2000+ fairing is made out of a "tougher" material that s/b less prone to cracking. In 99' they added a lip around the edge of the fairing to increase stiffness. Some early 99 fairings did not have a fully formed lip and were replaced. well if its true that this is a 99 mount, can i use the dash from a 99, to make it work??? all mirror and trun signals seem to line up its just the dash that is the problem the upper part of the mount seems to get in the way of my speedo??? any ideas would be great, especially if the 99 dash works, i am geeting tired of riding around with the mirrors sticking way out and no faring in place The other odd thing is the date on the part number bag, 9/30/98 almost seemed early for 99, but i guess the model years start early thanks ROger Oh and Neil if there is little or no ran in your area, and the grass isnt that long your better off to let it go, i cut grass for a living, and have found during long spans of time with no rain its better to let it get a little long than to cut it, it comes back faster and actually grows better Just and fyi and a reason to get out of it | ||

I'm new to the message board and have been loving my S1 for about 6 months now. I've got a 98 S1W with the twin tail section and I was wondering if anyone has been able to put an M2 or other style tail section on the S1. I need something a little more comfortable so the old lady won't complain too much on the long trips. Thanks, Ryan | ||

I know the M2 tail will fit, with some frame modification. A friend of mine put an M2 tail and tank on his. I'll try to talk to him and see what all is involved. Alex | ||

Lieb1890, Are you talking about a new ('99+) M2 tail section? If so, I'm pretty sure you would need to lengthen your S1's sub frame. Actually, you'd need to do that to fit one of the older M2 tail sections as well. It's just that I always considered the S1 twin tail as roughly equivalent to the '97/'98 M2 tail section. Neither are very comfortable for the passenger. AWprior, Just to clarify... Are you referring to the '99 and later 5 gallon M2 tanks? S1 and '97/'98 M2 4 gallon tanks are one in the same. | ||

I hear you guys on this. I know, it ruins the whole special edition. This baby is bad ass. Nuclear blue frame with orance paint and the thunderstorms heads. I've got the larger 5.5 gallon on it factory. The only problem is that I would like to ride with her more often, but as you know that rear seat is definately a bitch seat. I gotta keep the old lady happy, and there is no way she is gonna ride her own bike. Hell she won't even ride on the back with anyone else. Deathly afraid of motorcycles due to seeing other people act stupid and hurt themselves on them. How about this, any ideas for a good aftermarket seat that would be worth while? Or any ideas at all for that matter to make ridding the bike all day long a joy and not a pain in the butt. Thanks, Ryan BTW- Anyone heard the KT pipe vs. the Force pipe? I've got the KT pipe and love it, but I've heard the Force is supposed to be smoother sounding. | ||

"Smoother sounding"? Those are not two words I would ever use to describe the aural emanations of the Force Pipe. I still recall standing behind the Nallin record holding dragbike as Brian cranked it up and blipped the throttle. Three fillings and an eardrum later, I had a whole new respect for the noise a Buell engine could produce. | ||

Hey everyone. I have a '98 M2 that I bought off a guy who bought it off someone who... anyway, you get the picture. My question (finally) is what can I do to replace the bubbling decals on the tank? Any chance of a replacement tank (warranty)? Do I have to paint the tank? Buy a new one? Thanks for the help, Kevin | ||

Mike J, I went to the local HD dealership today and they said they were real sure Buell would replace the tank. She (the warranty lady) said she wasn't so sure that they would cover the labor though. That's not a big deal for me. Even if I decide to pay the labor I'm still making out in the long run. Even though I didn't buy my bike new, I would definitely buy new from them in the future. They could have just "blown" me off and I probably wouldn't have even blinked, but they went out of their way to help me. Way to go Huffman's HD/Buell of Lakeland, FL. Kevin | ||

Paladin, the M2 has a sub frame you'd have to chop off and then weld mounting brackets/eyelets to allow the X1 tail to mount. Probably just pull the electrics and other misc stuff (hows the seat gonna line up with the M2 tank?), the frame mods might be the easy part... "Major rework" just depends on your's or your friends' machining/welding, elecrtical skills, and creativity. It's the little stuff that usually sneaks up on me  . Might be worth the work to get those helmet hooks on a M2 though, be nice to not have to carry your lid everywhere... | ||

Well the bracket is for a 97 S3, i cas anyone was wondering, its a little shorter, which is for the different smaller dash, i think i will keep it in case there is someone out there that needs it or i fins a 97 dash later Roger | ||

just so you know its no longer folks its April, her freind had to go for personal reasons and they will not fill the position until the union issue is resolved, but she spoke highly of you and asked if i could pass along the message, but think of it this way, i asked about my faring stay(spyder) that i had ordered weeks ago(you did mention it would take while), and she knew what it was where it was and when it was due in(guess what my 98 is the only one on order as of now go figure) oh well i was still impressed she knew of it and even went and looked up its arival date no complaints from me she knew what was up, gave me an honest explination and never handed me any bs, thats the way i like it, be honest tell me whats up and why and i am a happy camper hats off to April at buell P&A Roger | ||

Carbon Fiber hates me, my cf race intake cover is distorting  Bottom front where it is closest to the header is getting closer to the header. I thought this stuff was supposed to be heat resistant. Pipes are golden, not purple so I don't think I've been running abnormally hot. Suggestions, Ideas, used-non-distorted aircleaner someoneneeds to get rid of? -Mike | ||

I want to paint my primary cover and gear case cover black. Anyone have any advice? I have heard powdercoat, paint and annodizing. Which would be best? I would also like to cut down my gear case cover. Any reasons not too? Anyone know of a great shop that I can ship to? Preferably a shop that has a quick turnaround? I am in Florida. Pat | ||

Madstuka, Go with the powder coating. It's tougher than most paints. A number of us have cut down the cam covers. Looks more aggressive and "naked". I really like the way mine looks. You can cut it down your self or have it done for you. It's not real hard, just time consuming. Lots of webs to cut through. Do a search in the archives, you will find a few pics. I'll post a couple of mine tonight. Tat at ASB (one of the BWB sponsors) does them, not sure of the price. Support ASB, they support us! Crossroads will also do the cutdown for you. They have a CNC program already set up. I think they charge $100 or so. Brad | ||

I was washing my bike this morning and noticed a few places on my tail section with paint peeling along the bottom, and one or two bubbles on the side. This tail section is about a month and a half old, it was replaced after an accident I had a while back. Is this something that has happened to anyone else? Should I contact the dealer that did the work, or just deal with it. Some of it *almost* looks like touch up paint was put over the area. Thanks, Alex | ||

Alex, If you or your insurance company paid for the new tail section and/or paint, definitely have them put it right. | ||

Doggone it, it finally happened... After a year & a half of a torrid and sometimes painful (but always satisfying) love affair, my beloved '98 S1 is finally succumbing to the "bubbling-decals-on-the-tank" disease. I know this is an old question and I haven't been on the board for a while, but what are my options? I bought the bike used in Boston (I live in Cleveland), so I don't know if there are any warranty possibilities. As always, any and (almost) all input is greatly appreciated  . Mike |
