I am going to register my bike early this week and am wandering who seems to have good rates. I have State Farm for everything else and they seem pricey....Who do you have and how much? Thanks. |

I just changed to Dairyland. I have full coverage, $500 deductibles and have only been riding for a year. I am paying $526/yr. This was $200 lower per year than I was paying. I get a discount for being a home owner, completing an MSF course and for belonging to H.O.G. I also have a clean driving record. |

I've got two cars and homeowners through St. Farm. I registered my 12Ss through them for $638/yr. I've got a clean record but I am a first time rider. How much is St. Farm looking to charge you? |

Maybe it wasn't so bad....I think $485(it was right under $500???) for full coverage and a $500 deductible...that's with three cars, sled, and homeowners. Progressive claims to be lower...but you get what you pay for. S.F. has always treated us good, but we pay them good too! Then there is the Geico scam...I'll check a couple places tomorrow. Thanks for the replies. |

I had Progressive my first 2 years of riding, and they dropped my rate by almost half after my first year of riding, and when I switched to State Farm (cars and house already there) this past year they matched my Progressive Rate and told me there's be a decent drop after a year with them. Granted my first 2 years were on a '95 Katana 750 so I was paying very little as it was. I switched to SF when I got my Buell. |

Stater Farm in Oregon on my 12Ss is $24.78 /month for full coverage with $500 deductibles. Two years later and its still the same. |

I am with Geico in California. I have low deductibles($50) but not collision coverage because it's major $$$. I think I pay around $350/yr |

What is this Geico scam? I have Geico...pretty solid coverage...for less than $500/year. |

Like you I have State Farm for everything. We each pay just over $400/year w/250/500 deductables and pretty high limits. Checked into Geico and Progressive and both were at least 50% higher for same coverages. Like you said State Farm has treated us very well over the years, even with an at fault claim and a stolen/totaled vehicle our rates have only gone down over the years. I almost felt guilty for looking elsewhere. |

I have Geico (full coverage, $425 a year), but Statefarm is has quoted me a cheaper rate, when my policy runs out I'll be switching everything. Stay away from Progressive, they quoted me $1300 for full coverage,.... ridiculous! (Message edited by expatriate on June 01, 2008) |

I have progressive. It's a little over 1k per year. I'm only 21 & had a speeding ticket sitting on my record at the time. It has now dropped since the ticket went gone bye bye. Close to sub 800 yr State Farm is for the older ladies and gents IMO. They were trying to get me for 2k every 6 months when they decided to add the speeding tickets I had on my record when I was 18. This was on an 1986 Honda accord.. Insane This was on parents insurance too! I had to switch to progressive and be on my own. (Message edited by mr2shim on June 01, 2008) |

Dairyland quotes me 800ish/year -- they give a good rate to Buellers and completing the MSF alone gets you a 10% discount (more than made up for the cost of the MSF for me). As a bonus you can deal with the Harley customer service people on insurance issues and that is a bonus -- they are good people in my experience. Oh, a side note worth mentioning is that since I garage my bike in the bad months I usually end up paying more like $550-$600 a year because of this. I might look into State Farm after I get married though -- heard they are good if you are going to get multiple things covered, consolidate my fiancee's and my coverage. Im insured by farmers but they sub out my motorcycle insurance to Formost. My insurance is $469 a year for full coverage. The Cityx was $400 a year cheaper than the XB12s. Im 35 years old but I have several speeding tickets on my record. Im guessing 8 to 10 in the last 4 years. Yea I know, its something Ive been unsuccessfully working on. |

Sorry for the Geico scam comment...I have tried them a few times over the years and have never seen 15% less...maybe 20% more! I will check with my SF agent tomorrow and also the local Progressive agent. Thanks. |

Jeffroj....check with you agent on this i have it on my bike and my home , it's like a couple extra bucks a month, but with the way prices change on the things we buy it's good to have. same with the full replacement price on the house...in this case i bought my house 3 years ago for 235,000 if by some chance the thing burns down next year it may cost 290,000 to build the same thing and thats what they'll pay "full replacement cost" |

I wouldn't mind full replacement -- but how the heck do you get that price on full coverage with tickets? I have one minor ticket from a year or so ago and I can't even get close those quotes -- is it a discount for insuring house/car/bike or something else? Now I'm very interested! |

Geico, full coverage, 250.00 deducts and am paying 290.00 for a full year. 41, no tix and riding for 18 years or so. Though I fear the more I get to know my 9R and how far she can be pushed the no tix part may come to an end. |

Well..here goes. I called SF today and they lost the quote they saved from three weeks ago. They tallied up a new quote with full coverage and $500 ded. and it was $646/yr. Seemed a bit high so I called around and a friend of the family wrote me through Progressive for $305/yr with the same upgraded coverages, $500 ded., and roadside assistance. It would have only been $277 if I paid in full but I did installments. It pays to shop around and I figured I would share the info. |

I've never had luck with quotes from either Progressive or Geico, they always wanted some insane amount. My first bike, a custom 1992 GSXR750, was $364/yr with State Farm. Don't remember the coverage, that was 12 years ago and on my mom's insurance. My current is with Farm Bureau on my 07 XB12Ss, and with $500 ded, 100,000/300,000/100,000 and $10,000 medical coverage, it's like $32.27/mo. To give you an idea how good I think it is, my 3 cars with liability only all run $23-29/mo each, plus it's a 12-month policy. They're so set on covering the bike for 12 months that if you choose a 9 month policy they charge 40% more. BTW, I'm 30 with one (BS) at-fault accident in the past year, some BEEYACH was backing out of her driveway and somehow convinced the cop to magically make it appear my fault on the report.... |

What the heck are you guys doing on your bikes? I had dairyland was paying $120 a year on my Honda Superhawk the next year they doubled because I had to much debt to income and didn't own a gas credit card?? My Allstate wanted to charge $500 a year and I was ready to give up on bikes. I do alot of work driving to save money not lose it. Tried Progressive.........$84 for the year, full coverage. I'm 33, had the safety course, and a clean driving record? The 2003 9xb is all they insure with me. You guys are all getting hosed?? |

My coverage is with Geico. $290.00. That premium is a year. And they let me drop to storage coverage in the winter which saves me more. I'm 32 and have a speeding ticket on my record that will come off soon. 03 Lightning. $500 dedeuctibles. And I took the safety course which saves me 10%. Ifn you dont have a loan on the bike, you dont need comp and collision. Get yourself an over arching umbrella policy for your liability (1 mill is cheap) get a good independant health coverage and make sure that motorcycling is not a NAMED exclusion, get a decent life policy with some Short Term disability to it.... I pay $340 a year for 4 bikes, 1 truck, and until recently a classic car. Your results may vary, but I did insurance for 10 years, there are more effective ways of spending money for premium return. |
