I have been looking at some videos on an xb with exhaust. I noticed that my idle is higher that most xb 12. Mine don't have the loopy idle. Mine idles at 1100 rpm after warm up. I have jarden gp exhaust and that's it. Oh, and it's an 08 with 2800 mile on it.

might be a bit lean... although may be not with out any mods to the air box. could always lower the idle.

Hi i am new to this site ,from Australia, Great forum just curious i also have a 08 xb i was told that if i changed the muffler that the engine light would stay on as the interactive is no longer used. Do you have these issues and how does it go from standard , does it pop etc.

If you're running the stock airbox and filter you shouldn't be lean. You can lower the idle speed by turning the knob located between the front cylinder and the left side air scoop. You'll probably have to be on your knees facing the rear of the bike to see it. Let the bike warm up then turn it slowly until the idle is lopey enough for ya. Once you change the filter or airbox you'll need to remap the ecm.

08_xbss, if you disconnect the cable from the muffler, ziptie it into a loop and tuck it behind the chin plastic then the check engine light will stay off. Or you if you're sure you don't want to use a stock muffler again you can just cut the cable near the actuator on top of the airbox then pull the cut cable and housing off the bike. Another option is to shell out some money for the exhaust servo emulator.

Depends on the pipe...some are worst than others..

I think you can just remove the cable without cutting it.

I thought 1100 rpm idle is what the manual calls for?

My 07 12R idles at about 1100 or so, and as far as I know a remap of the ECM is only needed when you change both air filter and muffler since with a muffler only change the ECM can adjust itself -- I can tell you for sure middle of next week when the SpecOps pipe goes on (double bonus, it has the valve still so no check engine or cable hiding needed).

I think the stock idle is so high in order to help with down shifts. Torquey vtwins are known to be really twitchy if you don't match the engine speed to the tranny when down shifting. With the idle at 1100 the motor tends to hang for a second before dropping down to idle. If you lower your idle you can tell that the motor slows itself faster when you chop the throttle and pull the clutch lever in. If you just give the motor a blip when down shifting you wont have the jerk on the back tire. Just my 2 cents.
