Just got this in my inbox... i am not thrilled....
quote:Important Message to Our New York Customers May 23, 2008 Dear Valued Newegg Customer, As a result of recent changes in the State of New York Tax Law requiring certain out-of-state retailers to collect and remit sales taxes to the State of New York, we regrettably inform you that Newegg.com must begin collecting applicable state and local sales tax for all orders shipped to New York addresses on or after June 1, 2008. Qualified business customers can continue to use the Newegg.com Sales Tax Exempt Form. We value our relationship with you and all of our New York customers. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change in New York law and assure you that we will continue to work hard to offer you the best prices, fastest shipping and award winning customer service you deserve. We look forward to continuing to provide you with the premier online shopping experience for all of your IT and Consumer Electronics needs. Sincerely, Bernard Luthi Newegg.com Company Spokesperson and Vice President of Merchandising
As I do 99% of my purchasing online, this severely affects me. Hell i guess i will have to get a PO Box or something in Connecticut, since its only about 10 minutes from me. Which politician's ass do i have to kick for this? |

Creative use of Affiliate marketing in order to collect sales tax. As a result of the law overstock did the following. Dear Affiliate, Unfortunately, at this time we are discontinuing our relationship with all New York based affiliates. We hope this is a temporary situation and that we will be able to resume the relationship in the future. Please see the attached document for details. <<ny>> Thank you, Ryan Sorensen Affiliate Program Manager Overstock.com 801-947-3228 Also please do not take this the wrong way Froggy, but you (as was I) required to report those purchase to NYS and pay the sales/use tax on them as they where used in NYS anyway. Enough people don't do this and NYS loses money, hence this law. http://www.tax.state.ny.us/pit/income_tax/sales_an d_use_tax_on_my_income_tax_return.htm Also Amazon is currently Suing NY for the law, no idea how that will turn out.. On a side note I do shopping online as well, but a lot of times the local places where close enough if you actually computed in the tax and the like so while it does suck, with the rising cost of Fuel, the taxes are going to look cheap compared to Delivery costs Or something like that. |

Hell i guess i will have to get a PO Box or something in Connecticut won't do much good, since many mail order places won't ship to a po box, due to the fact that ups and fedex can't deliver to a po box. something like this is what you need. http://www.theupsstore.com/products/maiandpos.html (Message edited by badlionsfan on May 29, 2008) |

The Iowa retailers have been screaming about this for several years. It won't be long before all the states do. The reason I like the online sellers is that they actually have a selection that you can choose from. Most shops around here just don't have the market for much choice. |

I think the mailboxes etc. stores give you a street address. Had a cousin that used them as he traveled all the time with his sales job. |

If one was to opt for a P.O. Box. Do a double take and your self a favor. Use a MBE or similar as they are treated as a street address. Cost is the same as a P.O. Box and the service is way better. as a side note, shipping to you can be cheaper. It is considered a business address. |

A lot of us have been dealing with similar situations for years. If you live on the west coast, almost all of the .coms have operations in our states. Hence you get stuck with local sales tax. Here locally I pay over 9% for that fine "privilege" |

Wisconsin has been talking about collecting back sales taxes for years from mail order and on-line sales. |

I'm informed by an irrefutable BADWEB source that Wisconsin's Liquor Authority legislation and Private security regulations dictate both NY and California's associated reg.s... |

That would be the NewWisCal pact. They wanted to call it the NewWisKy pact but Kentucky didn't want to have any part of it. |
