Aaron, Court et al, I do not know how high the Garmin GPS will actually read and it is not in their specs. Mine will read to 127 mph and it was diesigned for hiking. The Garmins have a large display option which helps rider a lot. I am guessing they might indicate to 199. We are using the smaller e-trex versions on our xr's. Max speed per trip is also a handy way of setting carb jetting for those without dyno. Paul |

Paul: May I, on behalf of tough guy motorcyclist's around the world, be the first to Knight you "Grand Hiker of All Hikers" This, to me, is nothing short of amazing and I am willing, given that a person hiking at 127mph far eclipes any excitement a Cajun on a motorcycle can mount, is sufficient cause us to abandon our motorcycle efforts and focus our communal support on the "Paul Super Sneakers" effort. Motorcycles were starting to get boring, but you passing the traps at 127MPH?.....I'm reinfused with enthuisasm. Court TEAM MANAGER - Fastest Paul in The World Team <I've got a call in to Garmin >> |

Hey JVV, Great pics of FMJ and his Salt Slayer creation. FYI, you can use a secret BadWeB formatting tag the \imagelink{URL of Pic here} exactly like the SacBORG [image]URL of Pic here[/image] formatting tag, and the bandwidth gets relegated to the hosting site of the pic. I added the pics to your post in that way. |

Aaron, you're right, been busting butt on a million details.Would love to show at your place for dyno tune. Not likely, but I will let you know how it plays out.Hope to be done with body stuff friday and get it to paint shop and transmission in,then to Vallejo's dyno. For anyone thinking about this Airtech body work, whoever made it was ON CRACK!!!They are no help at all.Granted I am putting it on an S-2 and not an S-1 but come on, they are NOT that different.I dont see how their airbox setup would fit any bike. |

Amazing how much work one of these things can be, especially when you have to re-engineer things. If it was just a matter of bolting it together, it'd be cake. |

Court, If you can point the course up, I can get pretty close to falling that fast. 127 mph was recorded on the S2 first work-up on the motor, before we got real serious. Have added heads, serious bottom end machining, & race oriented carb. Compression bump from about 9 to 14.5. Rocket or grenade?? Gotta be there to see fer yourself. The bmw r110s pace bike kept up with it pretty good in april, so we guessed it at about 100 hp. Looking for 125, with stock appearing carb and muffler. May have all-ot carb and muffler to see where we get lift. Tungsten valves are the cheap part. Paul |

Got my invoice for Team Elves merchandise. How do you do the Pay Pal thing? If it's something I'd only do once, I'll just send a check via snail mail. Don't remember ordering the hat tho, but I'll take it. For 20 bucks, it'd better be a Chinese rice paddy worker hat to keep the sun off my face! |

Easy stuff Bob, just go to paypal.com and enter the email address teambuellelves@aol.com in the proper spot. Oh, you do have to set up an account. It's worthwhile though. You WILL likely use it again. Can't believe my buddy keith is passing on your twin cam go fast goodies. He's wierd sometimes. |

Leathers: I'll be bringing my race suit, back protector and full gear to Bonneville (signed up for 150 Club ). I'm 5' 10" 185 lbs. Anyone wanting to use it is welcome (as long as I'm not running myself of course GPS: is it possible to to make a GPS "record" speed and location at timed intervals? If so it might be interesting to try and correlate speed and acceleration with position (distance from starting line) and see if we can learn something about how to best accelerate and make the most of the available running distance. Roc, The key word is poor. All racing is done by people who spend until they're broke and then run what they've got. Budgeting is for amateurs. Run what ya brung always applys. The cool part of this is that it turns out to be fun. Shared insanity is much better than accumulating property and tangible assets. Kevin Aterton said it best whe he said "We're here for good time, not a long time". At the end of the day you will be judged by the number of friends you've made not the pile of stuff you've accumulated. We have three motorcycles of the four running good and the Buell should be running next week. Anyone have an opinion on lectron carbs for all out salt use. This is going to be great. Paul |

Nah, I'll take the hat, Court, I'm sure it'll be of great value on the blindingly bright salt. And it'll help me look cool too! Alright Dave! I like the way you think! I have my own suit and will probably bring it. I'll have to consume the cheesesteaks and birch beer before I leave then. Maybe I should cancel the Elf Chow! Kidding. |

>>>>>Maybe I should cancel the Elf Chow! I'd do that with considered trepidation. I was privy to part of a conversation last night and I'm thinking that missing the food this year would be a "bad thing". The only worse thing, it appears, would be missing the "International Buell Bash". . . that'd be catastrophic. Stay tuned for details...... Court |

Sure, guitar and bass, only pick it up about 15 minutes a week anymore. No country here! This kind only! You bringing an instrument with you or just hoping to find some gear already set up at a local bar? |

Henrik, Birch Beer is like root beer, non-alcoholic. There's gotta be a bar at the casino, though, so I owe you a couple of rounds in Sept. Saro I'm a sax player. If you're planning on bringing an instrument, I'll check the carry-on rules and bring the alto, since it will fit under the seat. |

I don't know if I'm suggesting a BadWeB Jam. I'm still trying to figure out if I should take the boring, air conditioned, comfortable, commodious car or big, clumsy, too loud, non-Buell bike or fun little Blast. Hey, anyone know the farthest anyone's ridden in a day on a Blast? Mapblast says 820+ miles from Reseda to Wendover... -Saro |

Saro, If you don't mind an Irish drum and the bones I could contribute to the Bonneville band. Since I'll be missing our local Bluegrass festival for THE First Time In 20 Years to go be an Elf, could be fun. Although, it's going to be fun anywho. Don't mind throwing them in if anyone is interested. Ray |

I'm good for a couple of 3-chord tunes in G, but do 'em on a bad-assed '64 D28 that any of you real pickers might enjoy playing. Aaron: My one-night party in Boulder turned out to be a 5-day bash. (Even did my couple of 3-chord tunes in G while the 9-piece dance band took a break.) Sorta got swept up in it & decided that you'd be better off left to you labors. Besides, by the time I would've made it up to your place, you would've mistaken me for a one-eyed, staggering vagrant and thrown me off the property. Rain check in a month or so, good lord willin'. BLAKE or any of the other Engineers; If a person was to create a "wing" that was 1" thick 14" wide and 34" long what would be the down force applied if the "wing" was 'X' higher in the back than in the front. I ask this as I want to maximize downforce "balast" at speed without creating undo "drag" at speed with my sidecar. BTW the front and back edges are rounded to 1/2" radius front and rear. If this were medical I could figure it my head, but since it's not I need advise. Thanks. Ray |

Ray, Sounds to me that what you are talking about is not so much an upside down "wing" as you are a "deflector." An upside down "wing" would need to have an airfoil cross section (like an upside down airplane wing) and need not necessarily be higher in back than in front (angle of attack). Airfoils can provide high lift while producing very low drag. That is their beauty. For the same amount of lift (downforce in your case) a deflector will have a BUNCH of drag. Not good on a vehicle going for a land speed record. A bit of lead weight/ballast will serve your purpose far more efficiently than any wing or deflector. You can hide lead out of the air-stream, thus avoiding an increase in aerodynamic drag, your #1 enemy in battling the salt flats for a new land speed record. But to your question... I would need further clarification as follows: 1. Will the deflector fly in 100% undisturbed air? I think that is impossible in your case. Got a wind tunnel? 2. At what speed? 3. At what proximity to the ground? Blake (hopingthewingissuegoesawaynow) PS: If possible, trade your massive sidecar wheel for a small bicycle wheel? |
