my concern with heat shields, reflectors, etc. used to keep heat off legs and seat is.....does anyone know if keeps the heat on the engine and makes it run hotter, shortening oil life etc.? i would consider using them except for this concern. Why doesn't Buell do something like this?

If it is faced with metal/foil of some sort, that shouldn't absorb the heat. It should reflect back, and allow it to pass under the seat and out by the shock, just like normal.

Just my guess, but rather than radiate through the cracks, it just passes out the back...seems logical to be a bit hotter, but the difference shouldn't be too bad.

I am toying with this idea (using foil now as seen here by another badwebber http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/363133.html?1211589003 )
as well, had the same thoughts, and this was my non-engineering conclusion after some thinking...
