I bought a Screaming Eagle Air Cleaner off ebay for $20 because I was tired of that ForceWinder Air Cleaner look, it stood out from the bike too much, wanted something that blended in with the bike better. It turned out pretty good. I roughed it up in the center and painted it semiflat black and just put a allen head bolt in the middle where the ham can normally would have bolted up. I put small stainless allen head screws in where the crank case breather tubes went and I put Ultra Grey sealant on them and the holes in the back plate were large enought that the allen heads sank down about 1/8" into to make a really good seal. The SE aircleaner has 35% less surface area on the filter than on the Forcewinder so I don't think I will need to rejet because it should just make it a little rich but the backplate should flow more, what do you guys think? The Screaming Eagle Air Cleaner comes with a nicely radiused back plate that should flow really good. Here was the auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1 &item=280225634371&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=018 Here are some pics. (Message edited by grancuda on May 28, 2008) |

Just make sure the backing plate isn't hitting the frame as the engine bounces around. If it is, sooner or later that thing is going to bust off, probably when you least want it to. |

It has about 1/2" clearance behind it so I don't think that will be an issue. |

Looks pretty good! Didn't you have an oval air-cleaner insert from a few threads ago? |

Yeah, I have the insert and I bought a sportster chrome ham can and I need the Nallin Base Plate for it. I am saving up for the Nallin Racing base/air filter, they run 159 plus shipping and I don't have the cash to do it right now. I will eventually put that one on. That turned out pretty good. Looks like the backing plate can be 'reclocked' (with a few mods) to be offset further forward... probably not an issue with you, but it is for me. Interesting alternative for sure. |
