Living in the tick-infested wilds of Virginia, my thoughts and prayers are with you. And remember folks, stand naked every night in front of your significant other and check for ticks. It's safe, and it can be very fun.... |

If you have any Positive Energy to spare, please send it her way. I'm diverting some good karma I wasn't using her way. It'll get back to me eventually... |

Contact me at: onepercenter_@hotmail.com .... I have stacks of Lyme & associated ID booklets, etc., that should be of big great assistance to you. you'd be shocked at how crippled so many have been, and how extraordinarily they've recovered with simple IV antibiotics in these situations. |

As of this morning, the Doctors don't know what the problem is. They're waiting for the results of the last Lyme test to come in from the Mayo Clinic (they should arrive today), but Terri's shown negative on all the other tests. The Infectious Diseases Specialist said he's 99.9% sure it's not Lyme. She's had a Cat scan, three MRIs (her spine, neck and brain), a few different tests on her Spinal Fluid and countless blood tests. She is showing no improvement. She's been on I.V. Antibiotics since Friday, and is showing no response. It's looking like we'll have to go into one of the major Hospitals in Boston. As of right now, everything is in Limbo. Thanks for the Positive Energy and Prayers. Hopefully, we'll get some answers soon. |

A quick update. I just spoke to Terri, and she's able to walk to the bathroom (with assistance) for the first time since she was admitted. She's not sure if it's because of the antibiotics or the pain medication, but it's the first time she's been able to get up since she was admitted. Hopefully, this trend will continue. |

Make sure that they perform a PCR for Lyme, the incidence of false negative results in antibody-assays is high with regard to this specific infection. The IV antibiotic regimen would be unlikely to show a great response at first, often symptoms increase due to the jarmisch-herxheimer reaction. I'm no doc, I m citing this from personal experience: In the 1990s, while my health failed in a cascading manner (walking with a cane, weight loss of over 30#) and after many Lyme antibody tests (Western Blot, et al), they finally ordered a spinal tap and found that my spinal fluid was more-or-less congealed with Lyme Spirochetes, even though my serum lyme 'load' was very, very low.....low enough to avoid detection. After roughly the 2nd or 3rd month on IV ceftriaxone, I tossed the cane, could read more than one page per hour in the newspaper, etc. and I returned to snowsports (after years with really bad knees forced my career to coaching...with a cane) two years later. Request a PCR assay and a Spinal tap. |

My friend had lymes, chicken pox and mercury poisoning all at the same time! She couldnt move! Took her over a year to recover. She started doing some research on the net and discovered Limu. She swears by it! She even gave doses daily to her 16 year old cat who was in Renal failure, which in a cat is pretty much a death sentence. Well, he now is fully recovered. Check it out! http://www.thelimucompany.com/ |

mercury poisoning is strongly considered in the manifestation of chronic lyme. It tends to realy hack into one's immune response, thereby allowing the relatively innocuous borrelia spirochete to proliferate, with both an extra- and intracellular presentation. Given the fact that borreliae tend to reproduce very slowly, with the attendant fact that most bacteriocidal antibiotics (as opposed to bacteriostatic) attack the spirochetes only when they're in reproductive mode, longer-term treatment protocols tend to yield more effective results with regard to this genus of spirochete. mercury poisoning, far more common than most realize, compounds the issue exponentially.} |

I should have added: bacteriostatic antibiotics inhibit reproduction of bacteriae, while bacteriocidal antibiotics work by 'killing' them. In gram-negative bacteriae, high-dosage bacteriocidal antibiotic applications act in a bacteriostatic capacity. |

Crusty you have good vibes coming from Central Wisconsin. Listen to what Tramp said. We see several cases of Lymes every year. The spinal tap should rule out any type of Menengitis. Keep your chin up and I will put on my red nose for you and Terri!! Michael |

A very brief update, as I've been up all night again. The hospital Terri was at could find nothing wrong. All the tests for Lyme came back negative, as well as the tests for meningitis, MS, etc. The Doctors were out of ideas, so they sent her home. Their rational was that since they ruled out all the major diseases, her problem wasn't life threatening and she could leave. Last night, Terri was admitted to Tufts/New England Medical Center, which is a Major Hospital in Boston which occupies, literally, blocks. So far this morning, she has met with a team of Neurologists, and had an EMG test which is a nerve conduction test (and pretty uncomfortable). Depending on the results, she may be getting another Lumbar Puncture (Spinal Tap). At this point, we don't know what other tests are planned. The Doctors are also reviewing the results of the tests that were performed by the first hospital. We really hope that they figure this out pretty soon. We're both starting to show effects of the strain we've been under. As soon as there's anything significant to report, I'll post it. Once again, thank you all for the Positive Energy and Prayers. I know it's helping, and we appreciate it. |

Thanks for the update Crusty. Right now you are her biggest health care advocate. Let's hope that the docs at Tufts can find an answer and start an effective treatment for Terri. Take others up on their offers of help. It won't do either of you any good if you allow yourself to get run down and sick. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Kristi & Carlos |

I just got off the phone with Terri. So far today, she's had the aforementioned EMG test, a Lumbar Puncture, and they drew 18 (!) vials of blood for assorted tests. That's after they drew eight last night when she was first admitted. If there's anything to be found, they're going to find it. I hope they find it soon, and it's easily cured. Terri's in a great hospital; and, if anyone can find out what the problem is, it will be them. But it sucks that the Hospital is 57 miles away. (Pardon my self pity, even if it is sincere) |

You're allowed. I think most of us, especially those who've had a family member in the hospital with an unknown illness (10-year-old daughter, turned out to have e.coli)understand. I hope everything turns out as well for you as it did for us. |

find a doc who doesn't f*ck around with serum tests, the 18 vials aren't going to yield jack if the infection has taken residence elsewhere. Judging by her symptoms, this isn't an outrageous concept. Like I say, I underwent way too many blood tests and antibody assays (useless if one's system isn't producing a specific antibody to the infection, as is frequently the case when the microbe is invading b and t cells). They found mine after running my spinal fluid through a PCR assay, in Zurich. I went from walking with a cane and not being able to read more than a few sentences in an hour to getting back on my feet and writing again. NEVER accept the "we don't know" response. A doctor is just another mechanic, some are good , open-mined diagnosticians, and others colour-by-number. never be afraid to switch doctors. |
