I’m running on lack of sleep, and an overload of mental and emotional stress, so I’m not quite as coherent as I’d like to be, but I need to ask for some help. My wife, Terri’s hospitalized and not feeling so good, this morning. They've got her on Morphine and other drugs, but she can hardly move her arms and legs without "electric shock" intense pain. She has a team of doctors and specialists who are working on the problem. The team consists of a Neurologist, an Infectious Diseases Specialist, a Pain Management Specialist, her Primary Care Physician and a "Pivot Man" whose title I can't remember, but his job is to manage all the others and coordinate their efforts. A couple of the Specialists are rated as some of the top Specialists in the country, so we feel that Terri's in good hands. Terri's had more tests than I can keep track of, but they include a bunch of blood tests, a Cat-Scan, an MRI and a Spinal Tap. Right now, they seem to think her problem is related to Lyme Disease, and as soon as the results from the last few tests come back, they're going to aggressively attack it from that aspect with IV antibiotics. Hopefully, they'll start working soon, and she'll start feeling better. If you have any Positive Energy to spare, please send it her way. If you Pray, please include her in your prayers. |

I have plenty to offer: I am (still) a chronic/acute lyme patient (first diagnosed in '87, but I blew it off, and kept experiencing recurring bouts for decades, since)- I just restarted another round of IM bicillin (intramuscular penicillin) after bad relapse in March. The major problem was eventually discovered about a year after I'd been diagnosed w/early-stage MS (Stanford Med. center, Palo Alto, 1998), due to plaqueing detected in cerebral CTs. after couple years on IV ceftriaxone (likely what they have her on) I started walking better and began regaining lost weight, and could read again. Problem with lyme, and more so with diagnostic testing, is that most tests (outside of the PCR "polymerase Chain Reaction") test for antibodies, which the immune system will ofter stop producing against borrelia, when the b cell ratio is compromised. Long and short of it: Be VERY optimistic, as a good course of IV ceftriaxone will allow much of the drug to cross the blood-brain barrier, and, after a month or so, she's likely to find much relief. there may be a temporary period where, while the bacteriae are being lysed, her symptoms will get worse- this is a good sign that the sh*t is working. It's known as a "herx", for jarisch-herxhiemer reaction. (I was fortunate to have seen a lot of this material in school some 25 years ago). Contact me offline (onepercenter_@hotmail.com) and let me know what region of the country you're in, there are lyme specialists all over, now. Lyme presents in every state of the nation, although not always by that name. You should be thankful they're on it w/ the IV! Changed MY life in '03. (Message edited by tramp on May 24, 2008) |

You and yours are in my thoughts. Sounds like Tramp has some good info and from what he says it sounds like it should get better. We reap what we sew, and you have planted some very good seeds. Based on that, I think and hope everything will be fine. |

Plenty of positive energy heading your way from Florida. My mother had Lyme disease, (gotta love those ticks in CT) although it never really got to her. She had it for ten or twelve years before she died, (not of the Lyme disease, so don't worry!) You're lucky that you've got good docs, and they're being aggressive in treating it. Keep us all updated as things progress. |

John, I am so sorry you and Terri are having to go through this. I can't even imagine how frightening that would be. I am confident, thought, that they will find the cause and begin the proper course of action. Please know that you and Terri are in our prayers here. Let your BadWeb family know if there is anything we can do. Jeremy |

A doctor I work with was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease and said it was the sickest she has ever been. She, too, is being treated with lots of antibiotics and seems to be getting better. She was back East and didn't find the tick on her for several days. Our prayers are with you guys. |
