Anyone have to buy a new ignition relay? Mines on its last legs, with no Buell Dealer nearby, I was hoping someone might have crossed these numbers.

Mesa,

I think I am in need of one. I was about to start a new thread but saw your post.

I say I 'think' I need one because as of Sunday, my bike has started intermittently. The ign. relay does'nt completely die at once? It can be 'on its last legs' as you put it? I can get my bike started every time, however, sometimes I have to switch the ignition on/off a few times, then when I hear the fuel pump spool, I know I'm good to go. Does this sound like a relay?
If so, I will surely be ordering one today.

I hear a quick way to check this is by switching relays around in the fuse block, which will have to wait till I get home.

That's Exactly it! I too swapped relays to "make sure" but I could tap it and hear it making contact. The relay has been updated to a better one. Its 6 bucks, I bought 2 from my local HD stealership.

If the fuel pump and headlight dont come on with the key BUT the needles "Sweep" take the cover off the relays and just tap on the top left one. I betcha thats your problem. The p/n is printed on the side of it, just replace the "B" with a "C" and there ya go!

Indeed. That is my problem. My local HD has `em in stock. Do you know if the "B's" are still floating around or are the "C's" the only ones on the shelves? I will ask.

One more question: When I called my local HD to ask about the relay, the parts guys said he was only coming up with on P/N, is that relay generic for all 3 ports? (Start, Ignition and Key Switch)

Yup, same part for all three places. On a Uly or any of the 08's, actually 4 places, because they control the aux power circuit with the same relay as well.

I was told all the old p/n's were supposed to be gone. New longer lasting p/n's in stock!

Absolutely. There are few thing that Buellers should have a spare sitting around

1) That relay
2) Fuses in a few sizes
3) Header nuts
4) Head temp sensor

There are a few more, but those are three that based on my experiences, one should keep around. The first three should be in a baggie on the bike.

For future reference, our Buells use a standard ISO-footprint Micro relay (sometimes refered to as a '1/2 ISO' relay). You can find them at any automotive store and likely at larger department stores as well.

I will add these items to my storage in the tail section, sans head temp sensor.

After much ado with my exhaust, I think keeping header nuts handy is crucial. 3 of the 4 studs are double nutted on my bike, but if it can vibrate loose, it can vibrate OFF.

Its very similar to that one, Yes, I took mine apart, cleaned it etc, I think the coil has gotten weak. Oh well with my labor rates it was cheaper to replace it!

Back on the road, problem fixed. I did pop the cover off the old one. I didn't notice anything out off the ordinary. Question: Since I am not running any accessories, can I store a spare in the empty slot? (05xb12r)
I know the Uly's use that spot for accy.

Uh.. Bulbs.. I feel like a total idiot, but since I'm in this boat.. Remember to stock some spare bulbs..

I was replacing the tail light bulb (after a track day) and dropped it.. it bounced off the plate holder and shattered on the ground.. I went and looked.. and lo and behold.. of the 10 or so bulbs I had in the garage.. guess which one I DIDN'T have on hand?

I Really dont see why not, if there is nothing hooked up behind it, which I doubt, it will just sit there, good Idea. As for bulbs, get a little fishing tote (the clear plastic ones, line it with foam and presto...the foam keeps them from rolling around and breaking. we use a larger kit like that in our airplanes for bulbs and fuses. you can go crazy and make cut outs for them, bulb down works best so you can read the bases, write the number on them with maker to make it easy. Also, I removed the tray from my "Trunk" I personally have had NO issues in 10K miles.
