Maybe Ratbuell can verify this. The sales guy at my Buell dealer said the 1125R's were eating batteries because of a design flaw in the charging system and this was according to a Tech Bulletin they received from Buell. He said the bike was not charging enough at lower rpms and would only charge properly at 8,000 rpm's or more. Anything less would drain the battery until lights out. That less than complementary 1125R writeup in this months Cycle World mag complained of crapped out batteries in every 1125R they were testing. Now we know why. I only wonder why it is a Tech Bulletin instead of a recall??? |

I was going to make some snarky comment like "I dunno'. Why don't you ask in the 1125 section?" But I decided not to. (Message edited by Towjam on May 19, 2008) |

The 1125R does not "eat batteries." 2. There is no design flaw in the charging system. 3. There is no tech bulletin stating as much. 4. The claim about needing 8000 rpm to charge properly is ludicrous. 5. The only possible grain of truth is that the ECM programming has been updated to improve operational power consumption characteristics. Anything above 3000 rpm will charge the battery even with full electrical loading. Anything above 2000 rpm will adequately support full electrical load but may not provide additional charge to the battery. Leaving the bike idling with the lights on can eventually deplete the battery. It won't "eat the battery", just deplete it. |
