Sorry guys, just me... Well I have been working at it since I bought my 06 and yesterday I finally succeeded! Putting the flyscreen back on I managed to strip the bottom left torx screw. Any suggestions for the best fix would be appreciated! I'm thinking of re-threading one size up, but I am afraid it will effect the handling of the bike |

Stick a couple of toothpicks in the hole and break them off flush. Then a little locktight for good measure. The little bugger screw will stay put till the next time you have to remove the flyscreen. Then repeat as needed. Yah I know it's a backwoods fix but it works in a pinch and that's been holding my tail light lens on my S3T for several years. BC Steve |

It is aluminum, so I bet that running a tap (I forget the size) in the hole would straighten out the threads enough to work. And always keep some extra screws on hand (AN1005.3FSS). And in the future...if you are going to use a title like that...you need to at least have a good picture relevant to the title! |

Someone once told me that locktight melts plastic. Use caution. Never tried it to see if that myth is true. |

I use Locktite at work every day. I know from experience that it will melt certain plastics; I don't know about Surlyn, though. |

I did the same thing with one of mine early on producing my BAW. It cross threaded in the first couple of threads in the hole. Not really a big deal, the threaded part of the aluminum is fairly deep over the length of the threaded part of screw hole. I just retapped the hole the original size following the angle of the hole all of the way through. It would seem that the problem being on the left would make the bike pull to the left. Not the case. Due to loosing the weight of a couple of threads out of that hole it will make it lighter on the left side, that in turn will make pull to the right. Not to worry though, use two of those plastic washers on the offending hole and all will be balanced. (Message edited by etennuly on May 20, 2008) |

Putting the flyscreen back on I managed to strip the bottom left torx screw. The 6 hex head screws that hold the flyscreen on? I had one cross thread once. I just ran a tap through the screw hole and all was well. If you really managed to strip it, you might have to helicoil it (do they make them that small?) It will be better than original then. |
