What do you all think about the ability of our muffler to take punishment, the issues that come with the location (under the bike), and what are your thoughts and experiences on methods of protecting our cans? I got thinking about this because I run sliders and pucks to protect other bits of my bike (forks, swingarms, etc) but not my can and pipes -- and speed bumps and curbs and protruding manhole covers are more common than a lowside or high-side. This question applies to Blasts and 1125s too, as well as aftermarket pipes. Cheers! (Message edited by retrittion on May 20, 2008) | ||

I wack my pipe on a regular basis going into my yard but the stock can has held up wonderfully | ||

Yeah, the design seems to have born out as solid -- it has been around for years now with out any major outcry. However, I do know that almost every one I know on a XB has at least one scrape or ding -- I was wondering if this damage might have any low key effects on our performance, and whether some armoring or something like it would be useful for the longevity of our bikes -- similar to the protective plates that off-road vehicles use to protect things on their underside. I'm not criticizing the design, just pondering and curious what you all think. | ||

Cityxslicker's race can has dents in it bigger than a golf ball but no holes or tears... It still sounds the same and works good too... If your worried about damaging your can Tour Tech builds a bash plate that is for the uly but will fit any of the Xb's, Mr CityXslicker has that on now to prevent any further damage... LOL... | ||

Yeah, saw Slicker's XB while I was passing through -- stopped to introduce myself but he was with a customer so maybe next time. I'm not too worried -- just wondering, thought I would ask. | ||

I tore two holes in mine. NYC streets are not meant for our low exhausts. It kind of sucks to put it mildly! | ||

Try a micron, it is much thinner and lighter than the factory can and gives you extra ground clearance. Then mod the tt bashplate to fit directly to the welded micron side mounts so you lose the flimsy adapter brackets and you have a good skid plate and a solid jack point.  |
