The new brains that they put in these things are pretty impressive. It's so weird that I don't touch the throttle when cold starting it. The real question here is can the brain compensate for a bit louder pipe or is it so designed together that it wouldn't run right? Mine is still being broken in but it really feels like it has a cork in its butt compared with my X1. I won't change anything until it's got some miles though. I'm just looking a bit ahead. |

Change away. I have a full system micron serpent, which is about the free-est flowing exhaust and headers you can get. The standard "brain" copes fine, and also with the K&N filter that I have. I changed exhausts (a "dummer" type modified one) at 600 miles, and then wet to a complete micron system at 3,600. |

Loud pipes don't save lives; loud fans do. |

Should have said BTW that since the micron it runs WAAAY better than standard - so if anything the ECM likes the free flow more... |

Loud pipes save lives ... and void warranties. Be warned that a friend of mine's motor blew up, and Buell blamed it on his Micron. They said it caused the motor to run lean. And how did they find out what mods were on the bike? They looked him up on Badweb. If you make changes to your bike while still under warranty, I suggest you either don't post about it or don't put your full name in your profile. |

I don't know...I've always found that paying attention - not loud pipes - has kept me out of trouble. I don't have any more close calls on my bone stock 06 Uly than I do on my race-muffled S2 or my unpacked V&H-piped S1W. And I can hear my iPod better on the Uly. Maybe it's just me, though. |

I like it a bit loud, true but mostly I see the sound as being a byproduct of the extra torque in the midrange. I am just trying to extrapolate what my XB12x will do with a loud pipe using my X1 as a reference. It is loosening up pretty well and I should be above 600 miles by dark tonight. I will hold off on all mods until it's broken in. I wouldn't mind it being quiet, really. The X1 can be the sick freak that wakes the neighbors |
