Yep, Used to do something similar with a Colt muzzle loader. poof "fun" poofofsmoke "fun" kaboom and a whole cloud of smoke "Whoa wow holy crap do it again". But that mixing up rounds is a good way to get someone to stop flinching when target shooting. It's also a good way to have them accidently shoot the floor when they anticipate the recoil of a full load and pop off a standard load and pre-flinch dropping the barrel. Dang it, got to get out the 7mmMag now.  Got an 835 as well, haven't put one shell thru it yet though. MikeJ (Calling the storage guy for access to the toy box.) | ||

Mikej, If you clean your barrel with synthetic oil it will reduce the contact patch by 31%, and all is well. ;-) Jim | ||

Jim, that's no good. Synthetic oil is too slippery, the bullet skids on the lands of the rifling. You get no twist, the bullets get flat spots and accuracy suffers... r-t  | ||

I really like my 835, it's my main "pest control" weapon. Damn hard to miss a pesky skunk or rattlesnake with it. I hardly ever shoot the big magnum shells, just don't need that kind of power for most stuff and the somebitch puts bruises on my shoulder when I shoot them things. I also have an 18" Winchester pistol grip 12ga, that's my home protection weapon. Shotguns are great. I have an assortment of handguns and a few politically incorrect so-called "assault" weapons, but the shotguns are really the most useful, at least until the revolution . The 7mm mag is a damn powerful round, don't own one but I've shot'em. Very impressive. | ||

Mennis, I can't recall off the top of my head what the conversion factor is, but there a ton of conversion sites on the web. Just type "metric torque conversion" and search. Try this one: conversion 1ft-lb = 1.3558 N-m That sounds right to me, but I haven't done those conversions in a while. Jim in SB,that sounds like a 1996 S-2.One of mine is built 7/94( has old odd ball serial #) other is 3/95 serial # 0000036--or some such.I thought it was a very low # bike until I got the other--it ends in 256,but built 9 months earlier.Erik explained to me at SD that they never thought they would build more than 999 of them and wouldn,t need more #'s. | ||

Not trying to get everyone too excited here. I was talking to a salesman at the dealership last night about the XB9S. I asked if they would be in the showroom Novemberish. He said that while on the phone to someone in the know, that it would be more like Septemberish. It could be complete rumor, but it would be great if they could get it done. Deliver early and surprise everyone. **Only personal opinion** I beleive that Buell is also working on something that is WICKED COOL  for release in the next year or two. (and you thought the XB was way out there) I can't put my finger on any one thing, but I beleive that it is coming. It just makes sense in my mind. **Again just personal opinion, nothing to back anything up** Jerry | ||

Thanks guys. Last night we got the preload properly set up and worked a little on setting the damping. The bike feels much more solid now. What I was interpreting as a harsh ride prior to this work being done was likely the bike's rear suspension bottoming out. That's gone. I do wonder though, after riding a Moto Guzi V-11 Scura last Friday, if my S3 can ever handle as well as that bike. It's equipped with Ohlins components front and rear, and it handles like a cat on carpet. A wonderful ride. What is the general opinion amongst the group on just how good you can get the S3 suspension set up? Regards, Scott | ||

I was hoping for something to replace the M2 and S3/S3T. What we got was another bike that is just too close to the same thing as the Firebolt. That's not bad, just not as much as I had hoped for. Dateline: (New York City) I said the Buell XB9R Service Manual was"pricey" inferring that it was overpriced. Last night I opened it up and hereby irrevocably revoke all prior misrepresentations.....it is a service manual without peer. My compliments to the Technical Publications Group at Harley-Davidson. Everything within, from paper quality to photogrpahs, is EXCELLENT. If you OWN (or have on order) and XB9R buy this. S.C.- I've seen that done a couple of different ways. 1) Leave the existing grill. Behind the grill, mount some orange LED lights running off the existing turn signal wiring. (Don't forget to fill & paint the front fair holes) 2) Remove the grill. Fabricate some lenses from some orange turn signal plastic (get a couple of junk yard lenses). Wire lights behind the plastic. I personally like Wruffus' idea for the front. Sort of like the new Mercades I'm going to work on modifying the rear of my S3T over the winter. I'm planning on making a "quick change" bag bracket for the saddlebags. Then fender elimination and light relocation. Let me know if anyone finds some mirror with turn signal incorporated. | ||

All of this gun talk! Makes me wonder about you guys. Alot of info on stopping power can be found here, www.evanmarshall.com . I think the .357 is still number one at something like 97% one shot stops, almost a death ray. That is with 125gr. ammo. I have often wondered about that. Why that weight bullet & velocity. Probably something to do with the cross sectional density, velocity, hydrostatic shock, ballestic coefficent, etc..... Bottom line is, that round falls into what I call a window of mortality. That is it is a particularly fatal or effective round, depending on your perspective. Anyone having fired a .357 with 125gr. ammo knows it has a bark. Sure there are rounds that have more recoil and or muzzle blast. But few are more effective. Tho having said all of that I really like the .45acp. The nice thing about 200gr hollow points is they don't have to expand, they are big when they get there. If they do expand, bonus! Court has been shot/stabbed several times. He should write a book. | ||
