The stock petcock on all of the Buells sort of suck. The best upgrade you can do to help let the fuel flow better is to upgrade to a Pingel unit. There are those that have change out to cheapy lawn equipment in-line petcocks, but you get what you pay for, and if you have or plan to do any performance upgrades, remember to make power you need to be able to move air, quickly. And to feed it with enough fuel that it doesn't starve. | ||

William I am using a Pingel on my S3. But I have never had a problem with stock petcock on my S1. If it hasn't given you a problem I would no be concerned unless you are going to increase the fuel flow demands. Joe | ||

The small brass inserted nuts that hold the petcock to the tank are VERY easy to strip out. Only solution when that happens is a new tank (trust me). If you want to change the petcock out, plan on doing it once only, and pay CLOSE attention to the torque specs on the petcock mounting bolts. More than 2 or 3 times and you are asking for trouble - | ||

I agree that the petcock sucks. I use aftermarket Harley petcocks on the Norton. I think they were from Custom Chrome and are very well made and work great. The only thing keeping me from installing one on the Buell is what Kilroy said. My philosophy is if it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is, but in this case I'll leave well enough alone. | ||

When my petcocks get tight (S1W, S2 or FLHP) I just squirt a bit of dri-slide around the face of the lever and it loosens it up for a couple of months. Never had a problem requiring replacement, nor "more fuel", so I've left all the OEMs in place. 25k on the S2, 5k on the S1W and just under 60k on the FLHP. | ||

I was looking at the vacuum Pingel. The prior owner told me he forgot to turn the gas off and he filled a cylinder with gas  I have a bad habit of leaving the gas on because most of my other bikes have vac., fuel inj., or never had a float stick. Also I noticed when I'm running WOT going up hill for awhile the bike will lean out(feel it pull a little when I back off the wick)So I'm thinking of killing 2 birds with 1 stone. I can pull vac. by TEEing off the VOES, get more flow/pressure and smooth operation. KILROY thanks for the warning!!! I will be very cautious | ||

Mine broke some years ago. I have a Pingel now. Aside from having to make my own gasket for the adapter (the gasket that came with it leaked no matter what I tried to seal it with) it's been great. | ||

I had a Pingle on my M2 and I am so happy to be back on a stock one. I never had a fuel flow problem (other then taking much longer to drain the tank after a race weekend). The Pingle never seemed to seal properly at the base and used to leak like mad. When I switched from a 5 gallon tank to a 3 gallon, the stock petcock thankfully was on it. I am running a Mikuni HSR 42 with a Yost power tube (with a deep drain plug so it holds a little more gas in the bowl), and I never had it lean out even wide open. Yes they're fine if you don't take them apart too much to try to "improve" them.Pingles are obscenely expensive for what they do but none the less they are some of the best. | ||
