I keep thinking about getting rid of that stupid looking rear hugger. I would keep the small belt guard below the belt to discourage stones from landing on the belt. I know it would throw more water but it throws a lot of water anyway. Riding the M2 in the rain makes a very wet back. Anybody done that and have trouble with getting saddlebags, passengers, etc. tangled up in the wheel? What about throwing water all over the electrics and stuff? Comments? | ||

i trimmed mine (S3) to be only the upper belt guard, it works and looks fine. i haven't had any issues with any entanglements. it does get a bit messier under the seat though. | ||

Consider replacing the the small bolt, washer, and nut in between the frame and the grounding strap with a stainless steel parts. If these get rusty (as they will) your bike will not run. Take this from an M2 owner who has not been running a tire hugger for 5 years. | ||

My X1's hugger and lower belt guard have been painted to match the bike(red snap) and most people say it sets the bike off from the others. | ||

Something else to consider...If you are going to ride even when the road is damp it will throw dirt up on top of your oil tank and specifically around your oil cap, with grit trying to fall into your oil tank when you try to check it. If you still have the "cork" style oil cap and haven't upgraded to the super-cool threaded style, you might want to keep some kind of fender on it for now. Just my 2 pesos. | ||

You also have fuse and relays up under the body work. I have only cut mine back for those reasons. Joe | ||

I havent had a hugger on mine since 05....no issues.. and I DO ride in all weather... You will be fine, if you have dielectric grease on your connections and fuses like you should anyway, it wont matter... Chase | ||

I'm in the middle. I like a huger but the stock one looks like cheap plastic, and I do not like the part that sticks way out on the belt side. I am contemplating cutting it back somehow. Anyone got pics of a trimmed stock huger? | ||

Jeff That belt guard is the piece I'm working on now. Will post a thread later with a few shapes draw on tape let me know what you think. Ken That is a sweet looking M2. But not having the hugger kinda leaves an unfinished look IMO, still a great looking bike. Joe | ||

I did build a belt gaurd for my bike (polished Stainless steel) which you can't see in that picture. You may have seen them for sale on eBay. A friend of mine has been selling them. If I could take more off the bike I would, I am in the "Less is More" group when it comes to bikes. I just haven't had the time lately to do more work. | ||

Awesome lookin bike Koz. Ive seen it on Ebay with the stainless steel chain guard.Lots of hours put into that Im sure. I see your point. With all the polished and chrome parts, the hugger would look out of place. However, I do think it(hugger) looks proper on my bike. | ||

The hugger looks like a cheap piece of plastic on the bike. You are right because it is! My S3 was missing the hugger when I bought it, but I found a good deal on a Buell carbon fiber hugger on e-bay. Looks great, goes with the CF ham can and weights about as much as 2 pieces of paper...... | ||

Not only do I like the hugger, I like all the black plastic everyone else removes! It's win/win/win! |
