Maybe it's a "red" thing...I personally put 101 miles on our black XT when it came in (yeah, yeah...just because I could LOL) and had no issues whatsoever.
Other than wanting to buy one, that is. |

Back on the road again.
Dealer dropped bike off last evening.
Service Tech said Check engine light at 38 miles was o2 sensor malfunction, checked and tightened all connections.
Drained oil and refilled to proper level. (He thought maybe someone overfilled by checking cold and/or with bike vertical)
Put 43 miles of road test on the bike, service tech said bike ran fine and everything checked out.
I'm ready to ride. |

Welcome back Redwing.
I've only had the opportunity to put about 250 miles on my XT since I got it back from the O2 replacement. I have to admit that I'm still a little "spooked" and have been keeping an eye on the CEL. It'll take a little time before I no longer obsess over it.
As far as the oil level, I can see how a tech who isn't familiar with Buells could overfill the oil. If I check the oil level on my XT after the bike sitting for a day or so, the oil level will show almost empty. On the other hand, if I check it properly - hot (as in immediately after I come back from a ride), I show the level to be just a little over the "add" mark. If I were to top off the oil with the engine cold, it would be puking oil into the airbox. |

Good for you Redwing. Sure sounded like an overfill to me(the oil thing that is). So it sounds like the majority of the CELs are O2 sensors.....must be a bad batch of 'em somewhere. Wonder what brand their using? That is somewhat comforting though considering the other stuff it could be, O2 sensors are least of evils. |

I've noticed this as well Tow. I was slightly alarmed the first time I checked the oil in the first 200 miles.........till I looked in the manual. |

Went for a chilly cruise yesterday, 40s and very windy. Gotta love those grip warmers, still only needed low setting though. Can't imagine when the High would be needed, maybe above the Artic Circle?
I picked up my new Tourmaster jacket ordered through a local shop and stopped into the dealer to pick up my Owner's Manual, the right one this time. I slit the packing and verified it is the revised addition. All is good now. |

No, it arrived clad in regular mil shrink wrap solo. It appears to be the right manual, right number, has the suspension table for the XT....... |

Well, I added a sixth Buell to my stable with the addition of a Blue XT.
I have the rattle that DJM mentioned around 2000 RPM's, and I didn't receive an owners manual with the XT suspension table in it. 
So where is this rattle coming from?
but I will set it up using the table that is posted on the first page of this thread.
I've been waiting for this bike since Buell stopped making the S3, (Although I prefer my S2's to the S3) a sport touring model is what alot of us have been waiting for.

welcome to the exclusive xt club bartimus. for me it is the second best thing next to the m2 and although i'm back at 3 again, i could think of a couple more i wouldn't mind having.(02s3t,any firebolt) but probably get another scg for the wife first and then that would make 6. kinda like a lays potato chip. |

Man, I'm lucky to have one bike at a time. I read posts all the time about someone owning 20 or 30 bikes or even more, over a period of time. I must be doing something wrong. I've had exactly 4. Ever. And I'm 44 years old. I got my first bike before my 10th birthday. But I did have a period of 20 bikeless years. I hope to never experience that again. |

Congrats Bartimus. The XT is awesome, best bike I've ever had.
I don't experience the rattle at 2k, must be something wrong with mine. Some have mentioned checking the horn and other stuff within the flyscreen. I too received the wrong manual with mine, quickly corrected by stopping into the dealership and had them order me one.
I just picked mine up from the 1K service, and on the way home hit my first deer on a bike in over 25 years of riding. Damage isn't so bad, but it sucks cuz it's my first new bike, ever. |

It's nice having more than one bike.
For instance, my '93 Harley FXR is down at the moment, 19,000 miles and one of the lifter bearings went south.
While the bike was down, I had the luxury of riding my S2 on group rides with my wonderful woman on the back, and riding the city-X to work and back daily.
No loss of bike riding time when you have multiple rides.  |

I wish I had a larger garage. I would still have the BMW f650GS, and the GL1800 Gold Wing. Both very good bikes for what they do, but for all around utility I have the Uly. I was even looking for a way to get those other two bikes into the living room, but I guess one must set limits. |

When I made the deal for the XT yesterday, I had pointed out the trim on the box on back was sticking up about an 1/8". They told me to bring it back Saturday so Service could look at it.
I would think the fit would be better coming from Germany.
Anyway, the service manager said they would "submit" it to Buell and see if it is approved as a warranty repair.
WTF? Does it NOT look F**ked up?
I guess if it's not covered under the warranty, I can show it to Erik at homecoming and perhaps something will get done.
Other than that one issue, the bike is pretty nice. I found where the rattle was coming from, the horn was rattling against the back side of the flyscreen.
I adjusted the suspension myself this morning, and also adjust all the controls.
Put about 105 miles on it this afternoon after leaving the Stealership, |

Yeah, a few of us have had some issues with the bags - one of my side bags isn't watertight....
How did you fix your horn rattle?

If you reach up between the headlight and the flyscreen you can get to the horn. Just tweak it one way or the other to get it off the flyscreen and you'll be good to go.
I'd be surprised if anything gets done about the bags. My panels fit just about the same way - 2 different materials at work there, harder plastic (magnesium) and softer plastic (black) will expand/contract at different rates. Since nothing is "compromised" (i.e. water sealing, function, etc) and there's not a specific cosmetic "defect" (paint blem, scratch, gouge)...like I said, I'd be surprised. Keep us posted though. |

The right bag on my XT had a bent lip which kept it from closing properly and sealing. I'm not sure how it got past the factory's "inspector #4" but my dealer replaced it with no questions - although it took a little over two weeks to get the replacement in. |

That lighter colored panel on my top case does stick up at times, though no way near that much. Other times it doesn't, I think Ratbuell might be onto something with the differential expansion/contraction between the materials. I'm not concerned with it. The function of the bags have been perfect for me so far. No problems with the seals or the latches. Each side bag holds four growlers of my favorite micro brew nicely....... |

I believe the factory bags have deer repellent built into the plastic panels.
Hear me out...
You and I both have relatively new XTs. You rode without your bags and a deer apparently felt a strong attraction to you or your bike. On the other hand, I never ride without the bags and I've yet to see a deer come anywhere NEAR me while riding.
Ok, other than the fact that most of my riding is on North Texas freeways, do you think I might be on to something?

Awww man, I thought my protruding panel was unique. Now I'll have to figure out some other way to keep from getting it mixed up with all those other XTs. |

The shop told me today they will replace the whole truck box for me. Should be about a month for it to come in.
I fixed my horn rattle by just taking the flyscreen off, and bending the horn over like RatBuell said... |
