I took mine in today for the reflash. The Service Department was surprised that I knew about the reflash....since they didn't. I explained that I got my information from a webpage. Consequently, I really don't like to inform the Dealer of this because your creditability seems to take a down-turn IMHO. They always respond in such a negative way. I guess not everyone is a web-surfer? Anyway, they didn't have the new firmware, so they had to download it before they could install it. They told me it would take about 20 minutes to download. Two hours later, they came to tell me that they couldn't get the reflash to work. They couldn't get the new software to load? I talked to the tech and I shared information about the power supply for the DT (needs to be AC). He indicated that they only use AC power for their DT. Anyway, he was a nice enough guy and he said that he had a telephone call into Digital Tech Customer Support. In the meantime, I took my bike home and I'm waiting for them to call to reschedule. It's always an adventure when taking the Buell into the Dealer. I'm confident that they will get it right, but it's frustrating when you've got to drive an hour (one way) to the nearest Buell Dealer (that I trust) and then they want you to come back another day. They were understanding......I'm just venting! |

Hey Jeff! A lot of DT II users have had issues since its deployment. The DT laptop itself doesn't have to be on AC power, the TechLink II (the orange comm box between the laptop & your bike) has to be on AC power. Feel free to have the techs call me, it's not a big deal and I'll have a shorter queue than DT II Support Anything I can do to help, feel free to let me know. Chris |

Mine took, the second try. The Tech had the Digi-Link plugged into AC both times. Bike was on a Tender the first time and a real charger the second time. When it finally took, he said there was something with the switch putting a spike on the CAN bus or something. I think he waved a rubber chicken at it when I wasn't looking(voodoo). All told the Techs spent about 3 hours to do a 1 hour warranty service, we had fun tho. High Country HD/B has good coffee too. Z |

My reflash experience; kind of long but with good outcome. First a little background: My bike #292 has been relatively good running since I took delivery on the 27th of Feb. Its been 98% trouble free but I thought why not go for 100% and so the reflash. I have had it on my battery tender since I received it. Just a little low rpm surging (below 3000 rpm's) and running a little cool (165-170)and did not always keep running the first start when cold but would when fired the second time so into the dealer I went, yesterday at 10:30 AM. Now my dealer is one of three here within a 50 mile radius that is owned by the same person and all very dedicated to the HD life style. Hence, not a lot of interest in Buells. However 30 bikes on the floor of my dealer of which 4 were Buells. Almost seems like they just carry them to appease HD corporate. However my salesman at the one and only Buell dealers is a real Buell person who rides a bagger to cruise and a Ulysses. He has ridden the 1125R at Millers last year at Inside Pass and was totally impressed. You can imagine my initial speculation on getting this done but I was resolved to stay positive and build a good relationship with the service dept. So, when I went in I remained a gentleman but told them some tech's around the country were having trouble doing this reflash and offered a few excerpts from here to help if they wanted them and they accepted readily. They immediately took it in and started on it and I left them totally alone to do their job without any "help" from me. I toured the sales floor where also the HD lifestyle was surely prevalent. Talked to my Buell guy salesman quite a bit but I was getting worried after about an hour and a half so just to break the suspense I asked about a printout for this job and the service manager said "of course IF we can get the job done, we are on the phone with HD/Buell corporate service" Now I'm getting really worried that my original suspicions were being confirmed. Glad I did the 620 mile service myself, etc. but still trying to stay positive. At about noon I told them I was going out for a bite to eat and would be back later. Forward to 1:30 and a couple of cups of their coffee and some more BS with my salesman and the tech comes out of service and gives me a thumbs up. Great! They said the could not get it to take but HD/Buell was able to do it from their end via networking, good enough. We were all pleased with the outcome, both them and I, but my reservations still remain about any kind of serious work that would have to be made under warranty on a/my Buell. They still do not have a factory trained tech. on Buells. Outcome: The bike fired immediately when I went out to get it and I let it warm up while I suited up in leathers. Maybe a mistake on my part, it was now 80 degrees, hot and sunny and I was hot also. I had a 2 mile ride in 30-40 mph traffic to hit the interstate for a 40 mile ride home. Bike did show a more stable low rpm running, right down to 1500 rpm and would accelerate nicely with a slow turn on the throttle and the coolant temp. was up 10 degrees to 175-185. I was now "cool" Got stuck on the interstate in stop and go traffic for about 10 minutes and coolant temp. never exceeded 185. Fans came on and off as they were needed. Bike accelerates very quickly grabbing a handful anywhere from 3500 and up but no stumbles even from 2000 by just rolling it on smoothly and then WFO. Definitely seems better. Conclusion: The reflash works. What else would I think coming from the fine engineers at Buell. We move forward progressively. For anybody thinking or re-thinking about their 1125R's; just be patient, be positive and treat everybody involved with respect and you WILL be rewarded, eventually. My hats off to my dealer who hung in there, to Erik and the Elves and to BADWEB. I really love this bike. I will be riding a few hours in the canyons on Sunday, Mothers day, with "mommas", my wifes best wishes and the "mother ships" help. Then the rest of the day with peace and the family. Sorry about being so long. I'm outta here and in the wind. Bob |

Bob, thanks for the long post. Like you, I consider my bike near 100% now, and have been nervous about going for the 100 and maybe screwing a good thing up. Based on your experience, I will keep my appointment tomorrow for the reflash. Jack |

Oh crap, am I royalty now? I sure don't dress the part No problems, Andre, I'm almost ALWAYS there! You should be in and out with a minimum of fuss. And I'll be the one to re-flash & test ride the bike once done. It takes a solid fan base to trust a tech that looks like this:
Bob, glad everything went well with your re-flash. DT II has been challenging at times, but once running correctly, it is a great diagnostic tool. Chris |

Any sugestion's as to why my bike runs so rough at about 3000rpms since the reflash , bike surges and stumbles , did not do this prior to the reflash . Maybe should have left well enough alone??? Is it possible the flash didnt take as it was supposed too ?? I now have over a few hundred miles since the reflash , I thought the bike might have needed to learn the fuel values.......but still no improvement. I recalibrated the throtle position , and check readings in diagnostic mode , all looks good ??? Anyone have any input on this , I would greatly appreciate it ... |

I have about 250 miles post reflash and the rear cylinder AFV has yet to learn. I even ran it on the freeway last night for 15 mins at a steady 4K rpm. I figure it still needs some more time to learn. |

The reprogram actually seems to have helped my bike under 3500rpm. It seems a little smoother to me. I try to not run it much lower than 3100rpm. The engine just does not sound like it likes low rpms. Buell actually recommends not lugging the engine. Its more of a rev engine, not like the Harley that can run really low rpms and be happy. |

Mine was ....."was" very smooth under 3500 rpm's , now , not so much , but BMC will figure it out , just holding off calling my Servicing dealership , till I see what come of all this ...... |

Mine actually pulls real smooth and strong now from about 2,000 rpm. Those slow in-town corners or, when the blue haired lady is in front, it's real nice just to twist it on a little at a time. |

Ccryder, when I run my bike lower than 2800rpm it gets really knocky sounding in the engine. It is like you can hear every time it fires. I think the one that I test drove was the same way. I guess I will try it again to see what the bike says back to me. It just feels like it was lugging the engine. If yours is smooth at 2000rpm maintaining speed than my bike may have a problem. The tech from the dealer rode my bike 30miles the last time it was in for the O2 sensor and said it ran great. |

Loretta's "in the shop" for that very reason. I don't remember how long it took for the AFV to learn the first time. It was friggin cold and I was shivering too much to notice rough running. Any roughness I did notice, I chalked up to "breaking in" or "the new motor design". When I did find out about Diagnostic Mode, she had settled in to 94.5 front and rear and was quite smooth. Every time I checked DM it was the same. Then I took my trip to Texas and put over 500 miles on her at or near sea level. AFV never changed from 94.5 and she was running very rough. I even asked here if anybody knew the "secret code" to enter "learn mode" and tried to no avail. That's when I started calling BMC-CS about it . Got back home and AFV was still at 94.5 and she was running smooth like before. At that point it was moot, as the values were fine for my elevation and all was good. Then I got the reflash and AFV resets as part of the process, back to 100 F&R. BMC asked me to take it to the shop so they can gather data and sort this mess out. I'm not the only one having issues with 1125Rs having learning difficulties, maybe I can be instrumental in them finding a fix. I hope I'm not doing without my baby for nothing... Bottom line is, when the ECM is calibrated for the right elevation, this is a very smooth motor. If it's not, it's like riding a popcorn machine. If this is anything like the issues attacked with the reflash, a solution is imminent. Oh yeah, got a letter from Buell Distribution dated the 5th for the reflash today. Zack |

I get 28 to 29 mpg and run around town at over 3000rpm, usually about 34000rpm. My AFV is still 100 front and rear. It has never changed. It does run rough under 3500rpm and bucks and surges some. I only have 400miles on it and my elevation is 781 in Kalamazoo MI. My bike may be a little slow to learn. I'll keep an eye on it. |

No I'm not running around town at 2000 rpm. But I do have some tight low speed corners where I am rolling along, slipping the clutch and then will ease out the clutch and roll on the throttle. Two corners that come to mind, I roll on the throttle around 2000-2500 and accelerate to 40-45mph (actually 10mph over the speed limit). With this engine I'm there in VERY short order and just putting along. Since I have already received a "performance award" on this road, I cruise on the straights and just don't slow down for the 15mph corners. That's how I get my grins! On my 55 mile commute, I usually pass 2-4 Sheriff's Deputies, 1-2 State Troopers and 3-4 locals. The only place I can get away with speed is in the corners. Actually I got pulled over one afternoon for going 50 in a 20mph corner. We had a nice conversation about how he was jealous that he couldn't do that on his V-rod. He also noted that it sure looked easy on the 1125r. I made the offer that he take it for a ride any time he wants, since he knows where I play everyday ;+} He said he'd probably take me up on that some weekend. I gave him my cell number and said: "Call anytime". Those are the LEO's we like to know. Time2Sleep |

No driving award for me yet. I have had some interest by some of the officers here on WMU's campus. They are looking for good bikes and saw my bike outside. He asked about mpg which is not a strong point with this bike, but the fun factor makes up for that! I even had an officer that liked the bike so much last night he followed me for 5 miles on my way home last night. I'm willing to play up to the speed limit. Thought he might pull me over for jackrabbit starts but he lost interest. I can feel my driving award is close. |

Blake, you're a nut! I have to admit that we don't have a lot of 1125R bikes with a service history, so I'm trying to glean as much info as possible from BadWebbers to see if something kattywampus is going on. Keep us posted! Chris |

Thank you Liberty-HD. They reflashed mine. Only had a 30 min 30 mile drive home, but immediately noticed it was smoother down low. I was finally able to give it gas from a stop (or coast) and not cringe from the -OFF-ON- like manner it would apply power. Its as if they fine tuned the tip-in gas. As soon as you give it some gas, it gently revs the motor up, and it sounds smoother. Feels like a new bike. I can't comment on it shutting off, that will have to wait a few rides. Like I had mentioned before, with automotive racing, this same OFF-ON switch was definately due to fuel tip in amount. The less fuel (or steeper fuel curve) you had at the transition point from no throttle to 2-3% throttle, the more the motor would run an instant lean condition, and suddenly be faced with extra fuel, moving to a sudden rich condition. Anyway, we'll see what else is improved in the coming days. |

I have still little improvement in how my bike is running post re-flash........ My LFV's are Front 105 and Rear 100 .... I'm around a 500' above sea level My dealership is thinking I'm lugging the engine.... My girlfriend who's ridden with me pre re-flash , and I've said nothing to her regarding the post re-flash issue's , asked what was wrong with my bike after ridding with me this weekend , she too thinks the bike is running rough. Not sure what I can do now , or if i should wait to see what BMC say's.....

Thurstonbuell, Bring it in and talk to Ron, our service manager. Explain to him that you are not "lugging the engine." It seems that a lot of riders are experiencing the rough running at lower engine speeds. (Including myself, but I only have a few miles on the bike since the re-flash) Buell needs to know this is happening. Let me know how things work out. |

I took mine in Friday to have ECM flashed. Bike was still hot so it would not take the flash. Dealer at first did not have Digital Tech plugged in right. Dealer called Buell they told him to plug AC cord plug into red box. After bike cooled down ECM flash seem to work. Dealer technician did the torque Service Bulletin on starter solenoid relay cables. Now I have a engine light that will not go off. Any answers to why this occurred? Dealer is stumped. We have not solved the problem. Bike runs fine but with engine light on constantly. |

Anybody have the details (picture) of the starter solenoid relay cables that need to be torqued? The torque spec would also be nice. Mine was flashed before they announced the new torque requirements. TIA |

Under the seat, you have to remove the screw holding the rear brake fluid reservoir and the T-30 screw holding the cover. It takes a little wiggling to remove. Don't know the torque value tho, think they're 10 or 12 mm. Big red battery cables. Travelingman - no codes? Z |

Chris: Do you have any torque specs? About a month ago I was playing around under the seat and spied the gang ground. Somewhere in my mind it said: "Check for tightness" so i did and got ~1/2 turn out of it w/o trying. Maybe that's why I don't have charging issues. Z: Your plug shipped. Later |
