There is a used shock on ebay. Is this one of the old wp shocks that was recalled? Or is it an aftermarket shock. I emailed the seller but no answer as to lenght or what it came from.

"I don't remember any of the recall shocks having remote reservoirs?"

The M2 units did not. S1 (and S3 units, maybe?) did.

i bought the works from American Sport Bike for about 650 bucks... ive run out of bucks, so i went as cheap as i could...the others are nice, but i couldnt afford them.. it seems to be the biggest bang and should solve my shock problems....ive spent a bunch of money in the past on ohlins for my beemers and harleys...they were quality, but really an overkill for my riding style...works seems to be the cheapest alternative, or you can keep buying the stock ones on ebay every year... i will say, that i put 30k miles on my stock X-1 shocks and not a problem...

My '99X1 Showa shock gave 19k miles till it quit(fortunately I saw the puddle before I rode it)by losing the seal. But it served me well. Aftershocks re-built it for $300 in 2 weeks. It's a res. shock with rebound and compression adjustability, and even if I only get another 19k out of it I'll be a happy bueller.

"I don't remember any of the recall shocks having remote reservoirs"

Different shocks (White Power and Showa) had different recalls. Later model Showas with and without reservoirs (M2's did not come with a reservoir shock as standard equipment until 2001) were recalled in 2000 for SRP parts.

Look at your riding style, If you ride hard at the performance edge then by all means get the Works shock with the ajusability for rebound and compression about $850. Also if your 2K X1 is still the recalled o/e, and not replaced by HD, then get the Works unit. But if you are a "just for fun" rider and have the up-graded showa from the recall, then send it out to Aftershocks for a do-over by Phil, a good guy with good skills about $300+shipping.

I always have to pipe in on this discussion.

My Aftershocks rebuilt remote reservoir shock was great at the track last fall. The custom valving is/was great, a real improvement and much easier on my wallet than the Works or Penske, maybe someday I can get one of those, but until then - the rebuilt Showa is much better than the stock unit.
