Interesting write up on motorcycledaily.com comparing belts vs chains. The only niggle I could find with the article is that it gives the impression that Buell just recently started using belts. Go figure. http://www.motorcycledaily.com/08may08_chainsvbelt _p1.htm |

Well, I suck. Guess I need to expand the list of BW forums I monitor. Apologies for the duplicate post. |

I love the Quick Board. Seems like anything and everything goes in there. |

The article has some errors in addition to lending the idea that the 1125r is the introduction of belt drive technology to sport bikes. The Buell idler pulley is fixed, not sprung. The author apparently missed the fact that Buell solved the problem of the different lengths between the sprockets due to suspension deflection by developing a formula to calculate the positioning and exact size of the idler pully. There's a nice article on this out on the Buell site about how it was accomplished. The belt idler pulley technology is a valuable contribution to the science and technology of motorcycles. |

Seeing that pic makes me want to take off the front pulley cover too. Maybe paint a swirling zagnut on it to put people who stare at it on the road into an even greater trance . Thanks. |

! ...it don't look that pretty in real life! I just saw mine today and quickly reattached the cover! The belt DOES RULE though. I've been on shafts and chains prior to this ride and I cannot find anything but positives in this design in comparison. What I would like though is a "smooth compensator" or tightened up toleraces/clearances between the crank and this final drive... Otherwise, I feel blessed to be belted with rubber anytime! |
