Sorry if this is a repost, but I just found this. Nasty! Why don't we get advertising like this in the US? Maybe it would make a difference to someone...
We don't have advertising like that here, because we lack testicular fortitude. I agree. Heaven forbid we should SHOCK anyone.
That one ranks right up there with this one as far as shock value - maybe a little more due to the gore:
I really feel that people, as a whole, seem to be desensitized to reality, and sometimes a little shock is what's needed. If it effects change in just one person's habits, then it was successful. I think that most motorcyclists would agree that ads such as this would do far more to change the collective mind than the "Hard on the outside, soft & squishy on the inside" PSA's that I've seen. Those aren't shocking enough. Hell, there are video games that make these two ads seem tame by comparison. But like I said - Heaven forbid we shock or offend anyone.
Why do you care? - if you are smart enough to wear appropriate gear and look after yourself - why do you want put up with advertising for stupid people?
I reckon the Spartans had the right idea and I'm in favour of Darwinism.
True, Dave, and I agree with you about the Darwinism. But...
There seems to be this notion in this country that if things are perceived as "bad" for you, then legislation comes in to take the "bad" away. I like the idea of "forewarned is forearmed", and if it wakes someone up before they become a statistic (which feeds the legislators and their agendas), all the better.
Of course, some people you just can't reach, and that's fine. That's where Darwin comes in (and thank God for that!). It's all personal choice. I just don't want to be legislated to a 50cc scooter with a roll cage, airbags and a seat belt because some lawmaker determined that "motorcycles are deadly".
I like that second video... a lot. It doesnt matter how much gear you are wearing in that scenario, you are still going to end up in bad shape. If I do something stupid, and put myself on the ground, I can deal with that. It is other people doing something stupid and putting me on the ground that I have a hard time with.
