With lots of thoughts floating around about what the next new Buells will be, I keep thinking of a modern S1. To me the S1 was, and still is, a hot-rod of a motorcycle - lean, mean, not totally practical, but full of attitude  , not a bike for everyone, some loved the look of it, some hated it. It's styling and it's purpose seemed rebellious, to me anyway. I must admit I don't read bike magazines as much as I use to, so I'm not totally up to date on what is on the market right now, but with so much variety in what is available, I can't think of bikes that stand out like the S1. Maybe the KTM SuperDuke? Benelli TnT? Or have bikes got tamer? (I mean tamer in a design sense, rather than horsepower and performance which has steadily improved over the years) So my question is... What other bikes are out there with that hot-rod attitude? chili | ||

I have always seen the S1 "spirit" lived on in the newer XB lightnings. I don't want to get into a tiber vs XB debate, but I think Buell did a really good job of keeping that "attitude" as the design progressed. What gives the Buell - any of the air-cooled models - that "rebellious" flare is the engine. Yeah, the chassis are unique, but I don't think a tuber chassis is any more "bad-ass" than say a Ducati Monster. What makes a Buell have an attitude is the engine - all the noise, the vibes, the cold-bloodedness and so on. It lives on. And Chuck Norris would ride whatever bike Jack Bauer told him to. | ||

A B-King? Ya think??? Yes, I agree the spirit lives on in the XB Lightnings, and they did a great job. I keep thinking about an XB12Ss, but not enough to buy one... yet  To me the XB's miss a little of that "raw" factor. I guess noise and emission regulations have done a lot to kill the "raw" and "rebellious" factor too. The original Duc 900 Monster had that hot-rod quality in a way too. I remember drooling when they first came out, and a 900 Monster with a set of carbon Termi's was a delight to the ears. Maybe it's the fact that it was a little bit of a bitza in the same way the S1 was? | ||

confederate always has some really inovative looking bikes untill you look at the old funky looking tractor seat on them which spoils the whole bike for me. | ||

I like what you've done here... Man, the Heretic looks loooooong. What's the wheelbase? How about this: http://www.exilecycles.com/index.php?section=110 One thing most of these seem to have in common is that you can see through the frame somewhere, makes the bike appear lighter to me... As I recall, this one was 'only' about $25-30K depending on options. http://www.bigtwinracers.com/ I don't think any of these have anything on the original XLCR, or the original S1 for that matter. Some things just can't be improved on. | ||

I also believe the S1 was (is) a lean, mean machine and it's my favorite motorcycle ever to this day. The only new bikes that stir me any these days are these:  Take off the goofy numberplates and she's good to go.    | ||

The Wakans look pretty cool. Love the intake! The latest supermotards, the Aprilia in particular, seem to me to be the most aggressive looking designs around at the moment... and they look like a lot of fun  Can you say "Urban Assault Vehicle"? The Roland Sands bike is way cool. But does it go around corners or is it all looks? |
