Took to the elementary school parking lot for a little bit. She had already taken the MSF course, but it's been a few years. She did great - take-offs were good, shifting was good, she wasn't afraid to lean into the turns (as opposed to sitting upright) and carry speed through turns. Did some circles and figure 8's, start and stops, went through the start-up proceedures and what not. Only thing I can complaing about is coming to a stop is a little herky-jerky, but she'll get there. Thinking of taking her on some back country roads tonight. She's a not speed freak, so her biggest obstacle, I think, is going to be getting her to feel comfortable wringing the neck of that 250 to get it to go anywhere in a timely manner. Should be fun! |

That's awesome. I've been kicking around the idea of getting some type of small bike and doing the same with mine. When she and I first met, she was a little snobby about the bike. However, I recently cranked it up one night when I was leaving her house and let her sit on it while it warmed up. This was the first time she had ever been on a motorcycle. It still makes me smile remembering the wide-eyed look of awe on her face when she was up in the saddle. I taught her to always hold the front brake when dismounting, and when she was getting off she accidentally rolled on the throttle. The engine revved, dogs started howling down the street, and I think she panicked a little bit. She didn't really know what was causing the engine to rev, so she didn't let off the gas until I stepped over and just picked her up off the bike. LOL! Good times... Anyway I thought I might find a 2nd hand little 80 or a 125 and let her play with in the dirt for a while to see if she likes it. You never know, she may wind up becoming a rider. That would be awesome to share the road on two wheels with my girl some day... |

Get them to take or retake the MSF course and they'll feel comfortable fast. Then get 'em a Blast! |

So was I. LOL! Despite her being a 34 year old attorney, she was very much child-like in that moment. Not sure why you pointed that out, but thanks for the clarification anyway. |

I'm thinking maybe the wide eyes in the saddle stemmed more from the rough idle. ~SM |

Not sure why you pointed that out because of these lines..... She didn't really know what was causing the engine to rev I thought I might find a 2nd hand little 80 or a 125 and let her play with in the dirt for a while to see if she likes it. and mainly because i missed this one.... When she and I first met |

LOL! She gave me a hard time when she read what I wrote about her and your related post. She also said it read like I was talking about a little kid. Well, she IS little. She hardly weighs 100 lbs soaking wet and is short enough that she can't touch the ground on both sides at the same time on my cg model. She said that didn't count though. But at least now she knows what that thingie on the right that rolls forward and backward on the handlebar does. LOL! |
