I have gotten good advise here before but never had to post a question. Checked Knowledge Vault. Front muffler clamp broke again this morning on my way to work. this is getting old. Am I doing something wrong installing. This one only lasted a few weeks. I gave tried leaving just snugged down with jack under muffler holding up. Any install tips that works for anyone else PLEASE. Thank You in advance for any help. Jon |

all the bolts and header studs in place and intact? Is that front hanger bolt still there? Isolators OK? Front engine mount intact and all bolts in place? Still jumping busses with Robbie Kneival? Thats unusual for that front. The manual says not to re-use them, but I have a couple times with no problem. The torque on that thing and the design of the strap is so strong that it actually deforms the muffler... I think a loose strap is more likely to break then a tight one. |

Check, check, check on bolts mount studs ect. No on the bus jumping, although I have done a few stupid things with my bike. Its just too fun. This clamp was just replaced 2-3 weeks ago for a prevously broken one so its not reused. This reply is not to shoot down reply by reepicheep. I walked right out & checked these parts, started bike and kinda power braked for excessive movement. I really appriate any ideas & help. THANKS Jon |

The torque on the front strap is: 108-120 inch/lbs back the nut off 2 turns re-torque to 108-120 inch/lbs I have had mine off and on 4 times without it breaking(but I do have a spare on hand just in case) I hope this is of some help. |

Can you post a pic? Might be easier to tell why it failed. |

Hmm...is the muffler hard up against the front mount before you put that clamp on? If not, even a small amount of space in there could result in some pretty stressful vibrations. |

108-120 inch/lbs That is probably why the front strap is breaking. Most people overtighten it when refitting, which makes it break. If you don't have torque wrench you just need to do the strap up until it contacts the exhaust all the way round and then around a quarter turn and no more. As soon as you feel resistance it is probably enough. |

I dont have a in lb torque wrench but have installed as per Trojans instructions. The last clamp broke thru spotwelds. Ordered new clamp from dealership & waiting to try again. Jon

Anywhere to get an improved/stronger aftermarket one of these clamps. I got my bike used and it has coat hanger wire wrapped {gag} around where the front strap should be. Looking to remedy that ASAP. |
