Don't know about fitting it on the Vrod but I saw a lady on a trike using a little soft, square travel bag with a zip off top. Her little dog was happy sitting in it. | ||

We've got a local guy with a larger breed (60lb or so). He apparently went to a music store and got a travel case (heavy black plastic) for a bass drum, left the lid at home, lined it with padding/carpet, put a leash tether in the bottom so the dog can't try to get out and hang itself, and it works great for him. Not sure how he attached it to the bike, but on a VR you could probably pull the rear seat, run a ratchet strap under it, put the seat back on, and put a couple notches in the bottom of the case to run the ratchet through and strap it down that way. For a weinerdog, you could probably get away with a case for a snare drum. | ||

Pic # 2 is how I used to carry my dog. But that was to and from work and around town. I don't think either of us would have been comfy for long distance. Number one question would be...does the dog WANT to go? If you have never taken the dog on an extended trip on the bike, you might think of getting a sitter. It is possible that such a trip would make the dog miserable which in turn would make you miserable(since you sound like you love your dog) and ruin your trip. | ||

"does the dog WANT to go" Very important! I like that little 'Airstream' carrier above. The seller says it will handle a crash. Having been down, I think a safety cage for the little one is very important (we have crates in our van and car). Other than that, I'd mount a sturdy wire crate on the back. I'd think Ventura makes a nice V-Rod rack. Personally, for me, I'd have a hard time dealing with 'going down' and any of mine getting killed as a result. Not saying dont, just be safe. | ||

How about some sort of chest papoose type arrangement, the plusses are being more atuned to it's movements and your ability to prevent an escape try by the dog, having dexterity in front of you, then you could action accordingly to remedy it's need for simple repositioning and movement surely inherant in traveling. More control I think for you. | ||

Gohot has the right idea considering the size of a weiner dog. I've seen others using the chest pouch type of thing for small dogs and it seems to work fine. I'm not sure who makes them though... | ||

Krassh, What breed of dog is that? It has very similar coloring to a burnese mountain dog, but obviously a lot smaller. I had a burney and I miss him so much... I think one that size would be a lot easier to deal with. | ||

I used to carry my dog (toy yorkie) inside my jacket with her head sticking out. She loved it! She got so excited every time I started the bike she would start shaking and would get all bummed out if I left without her. She needed a break every hour or so but then so did I. We were both getting kinda old. I still am. | ||

With my GSXR 750 I had back in the early 90's I had a tank bag that worked great for my Sheltie I had. Could not keep my dog off the bike after the first ride. She would get up and sleep on my bike if I let her out where she could get to it. | ||
