Buells generally sell for less than Sportsters and quite a few Tuber Buells have been chopped up already. Cheap XB's are going the same way. From what I've seen they pop up in the Badweb classifieds regularly.  or  | ||

so the guy making the XB-BLAST redid his intake tube (made it straight)i wonder if this would be a good mod for a blast? may make it easer to install and hide an air filter (if there is room) nope not enough room still a good idea for him though. (Message edited by gbaz on May 05, 2008) | ||

More crazy stuff from the old man in the swamp to set this one up (I swear it will make sense in the end) At work, I am the TECH guy...(I SWEAR EZ...this ain't a take-off) the guys call me Yoda...because well I look like Yoda, only with more hair on my ears and not quite THAT shade of green. (did I say this will make sense?) Saturday...beautiful weather...the force was strong and the universe harmonious...I head to the Local Buell shop to meet up with the Buell club to go for a nice leisurely club ride  There was every kind of Buell and a handfull of others..some really nice folks...we hung out and had coffee and shot the bull...then had a preride safety meeting!! I'm thinking this is cool!!! I was assigned to the tail (I'm thinking good move, since I don't want to hold up anyone) Did I mention I'm the only one on a Blast??....a very STOCK Blast....Or have I mentioned that it has been many seasons since I have tried to ATTACK a turn??? Off we go...I immediately realize I am sucking exhaust fumes...I'm thinking my engine must have quit...I CAN'T be that slow....I WAS that slow...luckily when the group came to an intersection or stop sign they would stop for everybody to catch up. I soon realized part of my problem was I was conditioned to obey speed limits...this caused me serious problems until it dawned on me... THEY were ahead of me...any "dangerous predatory beasts" would have gobbled them up as they went past and would be too busy to chase after me...That was when it happened...the DARK SIDE called to me!!! You can do this it whispered...turn the grip it said...the FORCE said...you will skin your little green backside and ruin you 69 mpg average!! I learned a couple of things...(1) It's not like riding a bicycle...it does not "come right back to you" I am rustier than a civil war sword...but it was the MOST EXCITING THING I HAVE DONE IN 25 YEARS...INCLUDING ANY PASS I HAVE EVER MADE ON A DRAGBIKE!!! (OK THAT is gonzo exciting too but like a bull ride, lasts only 8 seconds) (2) I vow to lose enough weight to get back in my perfectly usable FieldSheers OR buy a new set!!! (3) The Mighty Blast WILL get on the rev limiter in high gear! Absolutely astonishing and unexpected! (4) The Dark Side is stronger than the Force!!! (5) 30 crank horsepower is nowhere nearly enough..MORE!!! the Dark Side ROARS!!! MORE!!!!! My new exhaust is due in this week...my new handlebars are due in this week...the stockers do stink for spirited riding... I'm sure I came nowhere near the limit of the bike...but I couldn't get past thinking of falling while wearing jeans...been there ain't going there again. I'm tradin' my green light saber for a RED one...I have succumbed to THE DARK SIDE. | ||

man, I just got done riding with my buddies and all their "fast" sportbikes. lol my buddy on his gixxer 750 is about the only one that can keep up with me in the corners. the 600rr's were left in the dust. pushed it hard too. it suprises everyone when the smallest slowest bike of the group not only keeps up but outcorners everything... of course as soon as you hit a straight its over.... I also almost lost it on some gravel while we were just crusing... oh ya the pipes are effin LOUD!!!!!!! | ||

The absolute hardest thing to do is to muffler a big single with out strangling it (or running a GIANT can on it)..the sound pulses from a multi cylinder engine to some degree cancel each other, making them MUCH easier to silence. I had a 437cc Honda XL350 stroker that I ran a straight megaphone on at the dragstrip...it was so loud, the car racers complained to the track owner about it...the owner tried to force me to muffle it...I said SURE!!! when ALL the other vehicles come racing with mufflers...I would have been the only race vehicle with a muffler I didn't muffle it...I did buy a box of disposable ear plugs and set them up in my pit with a sign that said "if my bike is too loud, here's some free ear plugs". | ||

Thats why I'm really liking the 4" Supertrapp with 12 discs - a cool sound thats not loud yet totally non restrictive to this motor - now thats a nice! (In my best Borrat imitation - lol) EZ | ||

Why not - your internationally famous now as well - my wife posted that pic at her Russian on-line School book - where they can converse - she just discovered the sight - lol - they where impressed by the American bikers - lol - it has been a world of fun each time - I got a guest room and yard now - place needs work but nothing that I can't get done in time. There is wine country and lakes to play with - so many good roads - I got a loaner if you all ever visit the Bay area. EZ | ||

don't get me wrong I still want a f4i, rc51, tl1000r, or if I can afford it a 1125r, ducati, aprilia or similar v-twin sportbike. but at this point the bike is paid for, cheap to operate, maintenance free, reliable and as my friend put it "gangster" we pulled up to the local hangout as a group bout 8 deep and as I'm pulling my helmet off someones 3 year old is telling me he likes my dirtbike lol, as much as I hate the blast everyone seems to like it so much more. plus its fun to zip around gixxer 750's cbr600rr's and busas with ease... hell the guy on a yzf600 asked me how close I was following him in the corners, he felt like I was too close and was afraid I had my front tire inside his rear... apparently I was pushing him... I told him he was holding me back... had to tap the rear brake a couple of times between entry and mid corner just to keep from hitting him. I also dig harder into the corner before braking which helped me make up lost distance in the straights... lean angle is also becoming an issue. | ||

Today was Wing Motorcycle Safety Day for Dover AFB. The story about how I got the day off is for a different discussion. At 8:00, we were to get together in the base theater to enjoy a safety briefing. After that, we get to go for a ride. So, I'm riding in on reserve, hoping I can even make it on base. If I stopped to fill up, I'd be late. After the brief, I heard someone asking if he should ride his Blast or his Ulysses in the sport bike course. Dover AFB's guidelines say that neither bike quite fills the specifications for a sport bike. Details were something like high power, far forward riding position with feet way back, etc. I grabbed him and told him that he wasn't required to take the course, but he should take it anyway, once for each bike. After I signed the roster, I jumped on my Blast and went to town and filled up the tank. 55.5 MPG. When I got back, they were just getting ready for the ride. No runway trip this year. We rode from Dover on route 9 to Mike's Famous HD in Smyrna. After that, people just started leaving in small groups to go back to Dover. I found a group of 6 and became their 7th. 5 sport bikes and one sporty looking cruiser that was running a bit rich from the smell of the exhaust. Funny thing about this group--they seemed to be slowing down for curves. Route 9 in Delaware does not have any curves that are dangerous, even to the widest cruiser at 90 MPH. Back on base, we all gathered in a parking lot at the local picnic area for food and fun. Seems a lot of people were interested in my Blast, despite it not being anything fancy. Several people were surprised that the belt was stock. One guy poured derision upon the concept of upgrading the Blast, saying it was only a few thousand more for a v-twin Buell. I told him it was a hobby. "Riding is a hobby, not trying to get more out of that little bike..." I was glad he wandered off. They opened up the base training course for people to practice. I took my Blast to the sport bike course. I was scraping pegs and boots on every curve. Quite a few times, I stopped to wait for a gap to form so I could ride faster. Those sport bikers kept getting in my way. A couple times, I went a little too wild and ran over my own feet, squeezing them between the Blast and the concrete. I was hanging off the side in every turn! Big fun! I took a break and stopped where a few other sport bike riders were stopped. I jokingly said, "I keep having to slow down for those high-performance sport bikes!" Someone took offense. "That's because our engines weight more than your bike." Followed by, "If you were not making all those mistakes, speeding up and slowing down, corrections and such, your time would get a lot slower." Well, words to that order. I finally came up with a good comeback, but he was gone by then. I was going to say, "I guess if you're ragging on my skill, and not discounting my bike's superior handling, I'm OK with that." I went back around a few more times, trying to be a little less wild. My times were a bit slower, but I still found myself catching up with the sport bikes on the course. Everybody gathered around again for the contest. There were two categories. Cruiser and Sport. I think neither one of them looked at my Blast because it doesn't quite seem to fit either. I got a few people to jump just a little bit when I honked the horn. Someone saw my foot pegs and said it looks like I've really torn them up. Did someone say rear-sets? Went on another club ride today , met the famous Buellistic...he was riding his 100k mile S3. Dern nice ride too until about noon when the mercury was up to about 98 degrees and not a cloud in the sky....(Ok I was dumb enough to dress in all black...but I was projecting "the image" ROFLMAO!!!!!) We rode "The Ridge" (a spine of high(er) ground in central Florida..there are a few spots that can actually be called hills...lots of scenery and little pothole lakes and ponds all over. More Buells on this ride than last with several very nice new Lightnings. A lot more sedate ride than last time by and large...lot of police out lately on the really good roads...but there were some fine moments...breakfast at one of those little roadside diners with a lot of rural ambiance and a sign painted on the building that said "bikes welcome".. There were a LOT of bikes on the road...groups of cruisers and groups of sport bikes...no problems from cagers on this ride either...the biggest obstacles were the number of bicyclists on the road...we encountered a group of 40 or so at one point...looked like a video from the Tour De France...going down a long hill at close to 40 mph...hope on one fell...I doubt a skin tight layer of spandex and a whiffle ball helmet offers much protection. Afterwards I serviced my bike and found and fixed an annoying noise from my tank shell scrub-rattle-squeeking against the gas tank at certain rpm...can you say "harmonic?"... Going for a short ride tomorrow too with a few "import" sport bike friends...the route I chose will have lots of short tight twisties...hope the cops are at at the Donut Shack...LOL!! I went on reserve at around 130 miles..so I have traded a bit of mpg for a bit of performance..fair enough...the new Pro intake and Jardine has a very pleasing honk at around 6K and WOT..I am having a hard time getting used to an engine that goes on the limiter at such "low" rpm... | ||

Made a few mod's this weekend  My superbike bars showed up friday along with some bar end mirrors, which I'm not entirely sure if I like yet but they definatley look better than the stock mirrors. I also got a shiny new pair of Pirelli MT 75's put on Sunday afternoon, and then proceeded to put almost 300 miles on them riding with some friends. After switching from the Dunlop's I am still amazed at the difference in handling with the new Pirelli's(granted I'm not sure if it's the tires or just the fact that I have new rubber on the wheels but it's a very noticeable difference). The superbike bars are also great, I love the handling and I can get down lower on the freeway with them which helps with the wind blowing me around. I also picked up some of those diamond cut halogen headlights which I installed Sunday night. The new headlight is better than the stock one however I was expecting it to light up the road a bit more. The new light also has a blue accent light in it which adds kind of a cool effect when the low beam is on, however we'll see how long it lasts before I get hassled about it(not entirely sure how legal that little blue guy is), but it's not too much work to disconnect the two wires powering the blue light if I had to. Some pics of the new bars. I tried getting some pics of the new light but my camera can't pick up the blue accent light at all and they all just looked like a bright white circle on the front of the bike   I know I've seen some questions about this before on here somewhere...Yes, I can still lock the bars with the superbike bars installed(barely).  I've only had the bike for 3 months now and my girlfriend has already informed me that I have a problem, which as I'm about to start shopping around for some different mirrors I may have to agree  | ||

I'm thinking if I get the 600cc kit, or if something else happens that causes me to have to take the whole darn thing apart, I'm going to take the cases down and have them powder coated to match the rest of my Blast. | ||

One of the mods I definately want to do is to score a set of wheels off E-bay or somewhere and have them anodized or powder coated....my bike was obviously either put up wet or some corrosive cleaner used on the wheels...they are dull and have the permadirt look that I haven't been able to clean up. I'm thinking blue anodize and get my bodywork painted electric blue with red, green and yellow ghost flames..HOOO HEAHHH!! | ||

Swampy's motor - I was at the dealership Devil Mountain - 4 miles from my new to me house - and talking to the GM - David who I've met a few times at American Sport Bike Nights. I was taking a few pics and enjoying the few Buells they had on the floor - he said they have a hard time keeping them in stock - he mentions off hand that the have a salvage title Blast that they where going to use for an LSR project that got tabled and that he is going to sell it for 800. I knew Swampy needed a motor and I could use extra parts for my project so I asked him to contact me - he did and a deal was struck - I went back and told David I'd take it, a free t-shirt (which the step son enjoys immensely) and 865.00 later - David has them get it started to prove the motor is good - it is, and loud also - lol - he loads it up and it is brought to my house - my wife steps out as I pull up - I turn off, pull off the helmet and say - "Hey honey - look what followed me home!" She just rolled her eyes, shook her head and went back in the house - knowing I'd explain later - lol. Well Swampy - here it is - I'll give it an hour each night and it will get to you soon. Went container shopping today - so projects are moving along. - lol Did a ride to the Locke/Walnut Grove - the old Chinese and Japanese communities - using 160 and River Road - nice scenery, could have used more curves - got lost twice and if it wasn't for the temperature being over 90 all day, it would have been perfect - it was still nice and the bugs where not too bad by the river either. re-hydrating now, that heat was the real challenge, my new back yard can get pretty hot, if it wasn't for coastal breezes = sigh - got the motor in the ac, worked then quit - will be reading and doing basic steps, check connections, look and see if there is a motor reset button, check mounting for trueness - motor, fan and capacitor are new - lol - thank God all I think about is the ride while riding - it takes my mind off discomfort, and keeps me in the moment. You know Harly riders around here seem pretty nice, waving me around when its safe and the looks on their face as I pass and they realize what just passed them - lol - priceless - great folk - we just like our scenery at different speeds - still looking for that perfect back road at my back door - I had several in SF, somehow I'll find a set or more near here - there are 2 resavoures to explore, hills everywhere should mean something, - sigh - just soo many hours in a day and a world of things to do. Both bikes are running very well - just in time for their regular maintenance - lol. Will be speaking about the Buell Blast at American Sport Bike Night in August - the first monday of the Month - 5pm - New Model/Buell Blast Night - should be fun and I'm sure Diana and a few other Classic Blastards will show - should be a nice night - my wife has won something each time she's gone - maybe her luck will hold.
