Well after lusting after a Uly I think I am going to buy an 06. Barricade orange, bags, 07 seat. 6000 miles for $7600, which I think is a little on the high side but the bike is near me and is the color I want. The recalls where done. My only concern is the wiring harness. A friend of mine on his 06 had the crush problem and was left stranded. So are all early (made Sept 05) 06s prone to this and is it just a matter of rerouting the harness? |

I dunno, Mine is an early 06 and I've never had the problem. I don't think all of them had the problem. Like any other online forum you will see a multitude of problems because the those without problems just don't post much. Due to that fact it may seem there are a lot of problems but in reality there really isn't. The 06 is just as good as all the rest and IMHO is better in some respects than the later models. Of course I am a bit biased in my opinions of the 06. BC Steve |

I had a factory wire splice in the harness at the steering neck pull apart. They made a fix for that with a different angled wire guide. I just loosened mine up a little and have had no other problems there. There are at least three other things to take care of though. the front spark plug wire can lay over the idle adjuster cable and will wear through, just move the plug wire. The harness under the airbox where it runs over the front cylinder head breather hose can rub through. Just put a plastic hose or sleeve over it. The ECM plug can be rubbed by the seat pan. They made a spacer block that was available with the '06 low seat. It protects the plug by holding the seat up off from it. Seems like a descent price considering the $1000.00 bags! I have found that the '06 problems are easy to fix once identified and once fixed seldom fail again. |

So are all early (made Sept 05) 06s prone to this and is it just a matter of rerouting the harness? It might be fair to say they are all susceptible to failure, but most don't fail. Mine has not. The 07 models came with an extra wire guard that protects the wires where they come around forks. Order one and put it on your 06. It is listed in the 07 parts manual but not shown in the exploded diagram, so mention that to your dealer if they can't find it. |

The thing about it is if the bike runs, it doesn't have the problems I have described. If you did ever have a failure of any kind it can be diagnosed fairly rapidly and usually easily repaired with help from the BadWeB. The issues that I have stated, except for the wire in the steering neck, never left me hanging, but rather I found them during normal maintenance after reading that others had had the problem. I didn't mean to come off as saying that ALL of the bikes had this problem. But having found the potential for the problems before they presented itself, I'm sure has saved me from break downs on the road over time. Oh yeah, I really enjoy my bike. You can't have it. |

Well I think I'm going to go for. The seller is not in a hurry and that will give me time to sell my 98 Triumph Sprint and 88 Ducati Paso and maybe the KLR but that would be hard to give up. I'm more concern if I can put up with the small gas frame. Triumph 6.5 gal, KLR 6.5 gal, most of the Guzzis I have owned have had over 6 gal tanks. |

I tend to think of range per tank rather than MPG. I can get 200 miles but that's pushing it. But my buddy's 990 with it's 5+ gallon tank only gets 40 mpg so we need stop to fuel up at the same time. Besides, gas stations are rarely exactly 200 miles apart so anything that shows up around the 150 mile mark is the next place we fuel up. Range has not been a problem on this bike and I've traveled some desolate hwys with it. |
