My wife's Blast killed the battery late last year, is there any way to check the charging system to determine if it was just a junk battery or if there is a problem in the system? |

Normal battery life is 3 to 5 years, so if it was "time for it to go" then thats one good data point. Don't run the bike without the battery, its really hard on the VR. Charge up the replacement battery, put it in, measure the voltage with the bike off, then measure it again with the bike running. If the voltage is say 13.2 to 14.5 volts or so your charging system is likely fine. More or less then that and you probably have a problem. |

Bill, Good to see you still around! I don't get on the board much anymore, work, family, etc. I'm sure you know all about it! Yeah, the first battery was the original, replaced it at 4 years old, I bought an aftermarket battery on eBay, it lasted 2 years, and neither battery seemed to hold a charge, had to keep it on the tender to make it rideable (although I bought the bike used in '05, so the original battery was about done anyways. I've got a battery less than a year old in my S1, I'll pop it in and try doing what you said, we'll see how she turns out... Mike |
