Amazing that rear mount broke EXACTLY like mine, straight off except for at the top where it had a nudge left.. Bad fabrication! I welded the shit back together instead of making a new one.. Was in a bit of a hurry. |

The collector is where the primary pipes join together into one secondary pipe. US-spec was 2.5", Euro-spec was 2.0" for some reason. We never see 99-02 tuber header with the 2.0" collector in the US. Bad fabrication! From a fab standpoint, a more generous bend radius may have kept the part from cracking at that breakline. From a design standpoint, the right leg should have some material scalloped from it so it could dampen some of the vibration instead of transferring most of it. |

Yup you're right. Are you a constructioner/architect or something? |

Not that simple Grov, Just a Buell dweeb, or as some call the specific know-it-all. That's what makes this site so cool, and if that's not cool enough, come over here to one of the Buell get-to-geathers...your head will spin! |

OK---- I welded that shit together and all seemed swell. Til I went on a race with my Jap-bike friends again today. A picture says more than 1000 words? I won't fix it again, I'd like the address to Mr Vance and Mrs Hines though. Piece of crap is what it is! OK so here comes the questions: 1. the only bad effect from riding for a few days without muffler is the loss of effect and neighbour friendliness, right? Bike won't take damage or so? 2. should I go for the D&D slip-on? I don't want a full system, too expensive. Or is there another better slip-on? |

Riding around w/o a muffler is fine if you don't mind warped valves...and hatefull neighbors. |

Warped valves? Supertrapp is good performance for racing or more for nice sound? |

Grovs: a newer style super trap muffler is a good bet, you will need a 2.5" us header and you want the upside down Y mount avoid older super trap IDS mufflers like this
The newer IDS is adjustable for sound and back pressure and works well with the US version of the ECM. |

Now I understand what "2.5" header" is! The piping hah So I guess I need to get the D&D FULL KIT? Rather expensive =I Isn't there a slip-on that will fit my existing headers?? |

Hmm after surfing around a bit it seems my best option is: Repair and repack the V&H + buy the 17036 - Buell Exhaust Hanger Retrofit Kit. That way I will get out of this mess for under 100USD.. And some hours of repair. I already spent 1500USD on repairing the bike this month... |

OK but if I put the Exhaust Hanger Retrofit Kit on the bike, the ear on the V&H won't fit now will it? I guess I will have to make a custom one.. hell this bike needs more attention than my girlfriend. |

"this bike needs more attention than my girlfriend" Which one is more fun to ride? The X1 is more worth the effort IMO. |

" ...this bike needs more attention than my girlfriend." It's because it was neglected before. You are suffering from the poor decisions (the wrong fasteners for the engine mount) and lack of proper maintenance (muffler has probably never been repacked) from the previous owner. |

The Supertrapp is versatile. The design allows for adustability(end cap no end cap #of plates)for your needs...do your homework! Anyway, you do need to replace the entire system, just like I did(mine had a drag megaphone on it). |

I already bought a used SNS/SMS (not sure which) 2" slip on from a guy here in Sweden, will have it in two or three days. It was the fastest (and cheapest) solution for me. I use the bike every day so needed a quickfix. When I have money again (ie when the Buell stops stealing all of it!) I will prolly buy the D&D full 2.5" system. |
