Well, the boys at Buell have finally gotten it right! Having had the wireform cable holder break, twice, I asked why they don't use the holder that is now standard on the XT? Surprise, it now supercedes the old wire one. Got my new, third, cable retainer/guide installed this morning, and I don't think it will ever be an issue again! http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b281/llpiggy/DSC N6046.jpg You'l have to use the link, above, as I have forgotten how to post pictures on here! It's a bitch, my memory is as long as my . . . nevermind! |

That's what I installed myself a few weeks ago. When I picked it up, I walked out and saw another Buell with a broken wire. I went back inside and asked who it belonged to. They pointed me to a sales guy. I told him his was broken and showed him what the new part looked like. I went out the parking lot and installed the new part on mine. Then I decided to just install my old one, which was not broken yet, on his bike. I walked back in and gave him his broken pieces. It just started to bubble his cable on the end of the sliding part. So, his clutch cable is probably okay still. |

I ordered one a few days ago too. I'm sure Jeremy was happy that you hooked him up. Craig |

N0012.1AAA (make sure you get the third A at the end - a double-A number is the old number). aaaaaand thanks to the overwhelming response through us badwebbers (lol), the part is now on backorder. It says clear by 4/30...but we're past that now so its anyone's guess |

California Buell (H-D) had two of them in stock... I almost fell over when the parts guy told me that. So, I got mine. Sad thing is all the Buells on the sales floor still had the old style wire form. |

Why are we buying our own new cable holders? If this doesn't scream "recall" what does? |

If this doesn't scream "recall" what does? Fer Chrissakes, it's a ten dollar part. If it breaks, it will NOT cause you or anyone else any harm, nor will it cause you to lose control of your motorcycle. HTFU and buy one. That kind of logic would dictate that every improvement ever made to anything should be given away for free. |

Hey FWIW all the bikes off the demo truck today had the old wireform holder ... and oddly enough, one was sidelined when said holder broke..... |

It may be a $10 part, but it will potentially cost Buell the whole clutch cable since it melts to the exhaust header. Dealers should be handing these out. |

I agree with Marks3tbillet, it would be really good P.R. to give them away. They put mine on in about ten minutes, no paperwork, and they washed the bike, Damn! Now I have to go find some more mud! Damn! But seriously, if i didn't have to sign a work order, I wonder if they are even going to file a claim, since no cable was involved? btw, American Eagle HD/B in Corrinth, Tx. just about 12 miles north of Dallas. |

Put one on my Uly and one on my fincee's Scg. Just thought it would be the wise thing to do. |

Mine broke at 1800 miles (6 weeks old) on my '08 Uly. The smell of melting clutch cable housing was my clue. Let it cool, tie wrapped the clutch cable away from the header. Had to wait a week for the dealer to get the new, properly designed part in - not bad given the demand. They told me the failure was not that uncommon. Once the part was in, they repaired the bike in no time and registered the warranty claim. Also had them reset the AFV and my fuel mileage shot up 5mpg. |

If they can keep giving away beenies, messenger bags, neck gaiters, hydration packs... They could give us all the new wireform since it's definately a known issue. I skipped on the neck gaiter and hyrdration pack, so I saved them at least the price of the wireform But, I bought it myself. I make up for it by eating a couple hotdogs, cokes and chips. |

>>>If this doesn't scream "recall" what does? While I am not sure I disagree with some sort of a neat program to distribute this widely and fluidly, the entire "recall" thing is silly, short sighted and the type of thing that would send any Fortune 500 company running for cover. The idea that the federal government (the one who brought you tax and immigration reform and $5.00/gal gas) are necessary to resolve an issue with a $10 part. Some would be well to read the FMVSS and get a clear understanding of what constitutes a recall, how it's initiated and how it's handled. This is where the internet, poised to do something good, chooses to piss folks off rather than offer up innovative solutions. That. . . of course . . is simply my opinion as a construction worker and long time entreprenuer who has long ago learned not to get too spun up over the price of a cheeseburger. Court |

Court, Great post. I agree with your comments as it relates to this part. It was a bad design for sure and apparently Buell has agreed and is using a new design on future bikes. For a few bucks looks like and easy fix for those that are concerned. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the bearing issue. That issue seems different to me. Do you think at the least it should be something that is reviewed and inspected during service intervals? It seems to be more of a safety issue and something that is not easily identified or repaired while out on the road until it fails. Mark |

Frankly . . . if not for pissing off a bunch of dealers I'd be inclined to just buy a box of these and send them to anyone who wants them. I send out 30 - 60 boxes of Buell stuff a month anyway . . . tossing in a part smaller than a matchbox wouldn't be a problem. If I owned one of the bikes that needed one . . . for the whopping sum of $10 guess what I'd do? Life's short . . play the long game. |

Spend $10 for one? Are you nuts? You should spend 100 hours fabricating a replacement out of $50 in billet aluminum or stainless. I've been looking for an excuse to start welding stainless for a while now, this could be just the ticket! (except that my 05 part is still working perfectly, on it's second clutch cable, after 22k miles... I must have gotten a defective defective one ). |

Just saw a new XT with the new Clutch Cable Guide on it in the showroom in Gaithersburg, MD. This new part is well thought out and looks like it does the job. Me, I'm on my third wireform and waiting for it to snap so they can put the new one on for me! |

Court-I agree. $10 bucks (In my case 20), for a fix that Buell took the time to come up with. I could have waited and if the wireform broke, gotten a warrenty fix, and maybe had the cable melt and have a fun tripped ruined to save a few bucks. No biggie for me. I like the corporate philosphy of correcting things instead of insisting that the problem does not exists. |

If it were not for diving deep into shit with dealers I'd just send a bunch of these to folks. Guess what most the folks at Buell ride to work? . . . I suspect the data was easy to gather and the fix looks to be very effective. |

The only obstacle I could imagine for bringing this fix to market is the fact the thing must weigh 10x the original wireform. Must have put a real burr in Erik (Mr. weight conservation and mass centralization)'s butt, LOL. the above being, of course, a JOKE |

My bearings went bad once. I fixed them. Then I rode some more. I imagine. . . . given the many miles that many Buell employees ride they do the same thing. By the way . . . that was one of the best Honda's I ever had. |
