I hear talk that there's no ECM's released yet for the '08 XB12S yet. Is this true? I'd like to replace my exhaust, filter, and as a result must also replace my ECM right? I'm sure this is just another question for Al but I'm all ears for other opinions! |

BUMP *I second this question.* I think I know this: If you go with an aftermarket pipe and air filter the bike will run lean, thus you need a race ECM. I know there's a mixed opinion on this subject in regards to running too lean causeing engine damage... Well Im going to play it safe and wait for the Race ECM to come out and then buy the pipe and filter. Am I correct in this thinking? Another thing too. Im assuming that I should wait until after the 1,000 mile service to do these Mods? Edit: Aw F it!! A Drummer and K&N are going on next week. (Message edited by boney95 on May 10, 2008) |

There is another thread on here about this... You should be fine without any ECM tuning (I had this confirmed with ECMSpy). Install and ride. As always, there is still a little room for fine tuning though. |

I don't think Buell makes Race ECMs any more. I think now people get stock ECMs re-flashed (reprogramed) instead. American Sport Bike does it, I believe. The ECM adjusts when the O2 sensor sees lean or rich, and should make changes to the open loop map too. However, DDFI 2 can take a while to adjust, but eventually gets there. You have DDFI 3, which none of us are too familiar with yet. I'd call Al at American sportbike and see if he can reprogram it for you, or if he is up to speed on the new ECMs in general. |

Buell still makes race ECMs...for 07-earlier bikes. Nothing released *to the public* yet for the 08s.... |

Hey guys I sent an E-Mailed to see when their going to have the TFI for the 08 Buells, this is the response I received. It's a piggy Back Modual but something is better than nothing and they work pretty well. Hey Brett, I just got off the phone with Chris at Dobeck Performance/Techlusion TFI their in the process of making one for your bike it should be ready within a couple of months you can check back with me if you'd like around the end of July and I should know more then.Thank you ! AFAIK Al is also working at a near-fever pitch to get the DirectLink working on the '08s. |

So, what you're saying is, I am going to have to tune the dammed thing myself? I do not have that kind of confidence in my tuning abilities or my "guy"'s ability either. I was hoping there was going to be some thing that is plug and play. Rich |

The TFI's of previous models were uh..... "problematic" to say the least. |

I suppose that Buell has taken steps to keep ECMSPY out now? |

On an 08, you should not need to tune with the mods you want to do. As always, it CAN be tuned to run just a tad better. NO TPS for the 08's. The 08 Buell's are compatable with ECMSpy. |

If TFI is remapping the ECM for you, that sounds interesting. If it is the old TFI box that is made for open loop systems, it seems to constantly go out of tune as the bike changes AFV value to compensate for the box. OR You set the box so the AFV will not change, then the bike can't adjust for altitude or temperature correctly. This was our speculation a few years ago when many of us where using the TFI. VwFlat said it best. Give it until june/july, and you'll have something plug and play. I have a drummer/open airbox mod on my 08 sx. It runs...alright for the most part with the new mods. Im a big fan of ECM spy, and i've been "tuning" my lady with it for a few weeks now, and have gotten some very nice results with it so far. Its definetly not for the plug and play/ squemish (sp) types, though. For the tinkerers, its "fun". If your interested in ECM spy, head over to buelletinboard.com, and do a search on it. Xopti is THE guru of spy. He'll even remap the thing for you for a price. Somewhere around $180 I think. I'm not trying to advertise the guy or anything, im just giving you another option. Ive never talked with him personally because i'm doing my own. I'd have it no other way but thats just me |

Give Bud Curtis a call at Hals HD(A sponsor if Badweb), about a Daytona Twin Tec tuner. Similar in concept to the TFI, but far less problematic, and more "tunable". They'll have one working on an '08 very shortly I'm told. |
