Just had an issue reflashing an XB. They should be using AC power on the TechLink II (the orange box) to reflash DDFI III ECMs. Chris |

Chris: Does the bulletin need to be changed to reflect that? Let me know. Court |

Digital Tech II support always says that when communication with the vehicle via the ALDL connector, it should be done on vehicle power. I think this may be a new issue with Buell models only. If the vehicle battery has 12+ VDC, and the technician is having difficulty with the re-flash procedure (I'm guessing it's at the key off/key on sequence), then the TechLink II should be put on AC power after restarting DT II (rebooting the machine completely, otherwise you will encounter unhandled exception errors). Odin thx the tech said he did that. He gets to the 3rd reflash screen and it says waiting for 60 second turn off ignition.buell told him you really only 5 second to turn it off. He is trying that now. |

Sounds like exactly what I dealt with this morning on the XB re-flash. Putting the TeckLink II on AC power after completely restarting the Digital Tech should get the re-flash to work. It may take a while, but it will work. Chris |

Finally got the flash to take. Ironically after six hours of trying the battery is now too drained to start the bike. |

Mine was done yesterday , wasn't able to notice much of a difference on the 5 mile ride home in traffic lastnite , is there anyway to confirm it was reflashed and that was accepted into the ECM ? just curious |

They gave me a print that confirms the reflash, my VIN, and new software version. |

Bryan: That REALLY is IRONY. I was surprised it lasted 6 hours! My Dealership was able to get the "shop" bike done w/o any issues. Watch I'll bring mine in tomorrow and it will be a 6 hour nightmare!!! Someone will then blame it on my farkels. Speaking of farkels, when I get a male accessory plug, all my farkels will be controlled by the accessory plug circuit so I will be functionally in compliance with BMC's wishes. If the battery voltage drops below the preset level and the ECM/ CAN bus disconnects the accessory plug, my farkels will be de-energized. Can't get much better than that! (After all, we cannot live without some farkels!) Time2Work Neil S. |

There's really no way to display the calibration ID on the instrument cluster, but after the re-flash, they should be printing out a re-flash report like Spectrum, but some dealers have DT linked with their dealer management system, and the re-flash shows up on your receipt, along with the printout. |

didn't get either of those...... I trust my dealership , and have no reason to doubt that they did the flash , but do enjoy having my records in order. Hate to call and be one of those customers......but.....I don't think it would be out of line calling to ask to see... |

Well, to be strictly correct, we would say we can't rule out your farkles. We wouldn't necessarily say they were for sure the culprit That is a nice setup... put the unnecessary stuff on a line that the ECU is smart enough to cut off if "things are going badly". Very clever. |

took mine today in the morning They worked with it for 40 min. I saw them trying to reflash it and they looked confused. Finally after 45 min. The service advisor told me to bring it later because they where having some issues with their computer (I didn't know if they where talking about the laptop I saw them using or the orange box sitting on the bike) so now I'm supposed to take it back tomorrow. He told me also that when the progress bar was at 90%, the computer would freeze. I don't know if that was exactly what was happening but I guess I don't have a choice but to wait. |

So I finally made it home after the update. Despite how long it took, I had an excellent experience at the dealership. Of note, this is not the dealership where I bought it or did the electrical diagnoses on my battery charging issues. I'll post later with details. |

I'll be re-flashing our rental 1125R tomorrow. I have it on battery tender now to make sure I've got 12 VDC on the battery before I try anything. I'll post back if anything kattywompus happens. Chris |

Same story here. Took Loretta to High Country HD/B, since Sun HD/B is 20 miles further down the road and the wind here is steady at 50-60 mph today out of the North. We tried and tried, probably 6 or 7 times to get the flash to take, no dice. Kudos to them tho for sticking with it so long. They're going to try to figure it all out with one of the demo bikes they have and call me back in then. I showed them the input from Chris(Big thanks BTW to you man!) but still couldn't get it. They will be on the phone to E. Troy on Monday to wrangle it out. No real rush, Loretta's been on her best behavior, except for not wanting to talk to the DT II. I love riding on the bleeding edge. Their best bet is to speak directly to DT Support. I don't know if East Troy has much use or background with DT. |

When the techs at Peterson's South HD/B did the re-flash on mine, they were running into the same issues at first. One of them mentioned that the DT had to be connected to AC power, and I think that resolved it. I couldn't tell you for sure, I walked away to let them work. I hate trying to do something with somebody looking over my shoulder, so I gave them some space. In about the time it took me to drink a cup of coffee, they had it done. They also took care of another bulletin about putting blue lock-tite on the bolts securing a relay under the seat. Got my print-out, thanked them and rode off. I did notice a difference with low speed throttle response. There are some low speed turns I have to go thru in my housing development to get to my house. Before, I was always in first gear going thru them, second would bog the engine and feel jerky. Now, I go thru them in second, closed throttle, and the bike accelerates smoothly out of the curves. Can't thank you enough Odin for the info. |

OK, I just did 2 re-flashes, and I have a good handle on what to look for. Anyone out there that might be having difficulty with the re-flash, please either PM me or call me at the shop, 732-381-2400, option 3 for service. Chris |

I can't say for anybody but me, but I'm having the time of my life. I've been riding the finest motorcycle I've ever thrown a leg over for the last 5 months. Please don't waste any energy feeling sorry for this 1125R owner. Zack |

I'm with Zack and Jp there. Had my re-flash done this morning. It turned out to be a re-flash party since 4 owner and one demo bike were done. Can't say I notice any difference overall except for under 2.4K rpm, where it seems to be smoother. Mine was running to my satisfaction prior to the re-flash anyway and any difference is may just be my perception. But, it is always good to be on top of the Service Packs |

Odin - thanks again for the info. This AM was my dealership's monthly HOG meeting (I have one of those too). So - I arranged to have my 1125R reflashed while I was attending the HOG meeting. The only tech that has been to the 1125R training has weekends off - but they scheduled the appointment anyway. The tech couldn't get the DT to talk to my bike. He did read the bulletin - but no dice. He did have the bluetooth box on AC power. He reset the DT laptop several times. I agreed to bring the bike back when the Buell tech is at work. This was the first time (in over 10 years and at least a dozen bikes) that this dealership did not live up to the "implied" promise. Prior to this - I simply could not comprehend how there could be "bad" dealers. Now - I am not saying my dealer is bad (in fact, I think they are AWESOME). Just that I experienced the frustration many have had about their dealers. So - my apologies to other riders that have griped about their dealers. Mine has always been perfect. And - honestly - I know they will get this figured out very quickly. I do feel bad for those of you that get this kind of treatment all the time. This was my first time - and if this was what I had waiting for me at the dealership - I would not be happy either. |
