Interested in your tires.....checked out Avons site. There seems to be a few different Distanzias on offer.
Which ones did you use.....and what sizes??.....cheer's. |

Jack: There has been a fair amount of threads here on Badweb about the Avon Distanzia tires on the Uly. The front is model AM43 in size 120/70-17 and the rear is an AM44 in size 160/60-17. Even though the rear is spec'd smaller, it fits and works fine.
I have not used them enough to know what I think about them, but the general consensus seems to be that they have a little more grip on the asphalt than the Pirelli Sync's and they are also a better performer off road because of the more aggressive tread pattern, but you are going to give up mileage. I have been getting about 7500 miles out my the Pirelli rear tires but I am expecting to only get about 5000 out of the Distanzia's.
With as little dirt as I do...I may switch back to the Sync's the next time around, but I wanted to at least give the Avon's a try. |

I just went through your photos and even saw mention of "ME". Bike looks fantastic. I keep being a cheap as.s about the triple clamps but your comment sure has got the cobwebs vibrating in my wallet. I imagine I'll be seeing the Maximized Uly in person this July at Homecoming. Registered myself, wife and son yesterday. Sure hope it doesn't rain. |

EG: I was wondering if you would every notice that you were mentioned in the thread. I really think that you will appreciate the '08 forks, the cost is not too bad...it is just a lot of labor to remove the front end (and get it back together). And yes, I will see you at Homecoming!
Pso: I like the looks of the low profile scoops too, but I have a feeling that they are not as efficient as the stock scoop design. The fan seems like it runs just as much as with the normal single sided stock scoop (maybe a little more), but most people with a stock shaped RRS note less fan time. So it looks great, but possible doesn't allow as much air flow. We will see what happens this summer. |

I think the option of a garage with the new house hunt is a must. If only the wife loved this bike as much as we do. |

Pso: You're correct...I did first install the wheel reflective tape last year. It held up very well, only a little pealing back of the seem a bit over time. Of course that tape came off with the powder coating prep, so I installed some new ones after getting the wheels back from being painted. This time I spent a little more effort to make sure the wheels were very clean prior to applying the stickers. So they should hold up even better than last time. But even so, at a cost of $15...I don't expect them to last forever. I bet they look really cool at night, but it is kind of hard for me to see them while I am riding! |

I am installing a lowering kit by Melisse. I have the rear shock out, but I'm not sure how to remove the spring. I see you had yours out. Could you explain how you did it? |

I used the "shock spring compressor" from RaceTech...http://www.racetech.com/page.aspx?id=70&menuid=57
...but I did have to modify it a little. I have also seen spring compressor on eBay that uses treaded hooks to compress the spring. Whatever you use..be careful...that spring does not compress easily and can be dangerous.
