a few years ago, i put a mikuni carb on my 2000 M-2...the throtle linkage was too long, so i abandoned to plan... i figured that the mikunis that come for buell specific must use a different length lever on the carb housing or something...so now today i tried to put a harley cv carb on my S-3 and its the same deal, the throttle cables are way too long to adjust (the wire that moves inside the sheath)... has anyone found a way to adapt these harley carbs to a buell? |

The Buell version has a different cable bracket. I posted a picture some time back, I'd have to hunt it down again. The Buell version has longer cable "ferrels" on the bracket. I found my original post.. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=3842&post=292232#POST292232 Brad |

Buells and Sportsters use a different cable mount than HD big twins...It sits up higher to clear rocker boxes...A sporty CV fits or just the cable mount switched over works on a big twin CV Hb |

ok, im getting bugged!!! the twin cam carb linkage wont fit, per photos!!! so i buy a carb from a member from a 98 S-1 and guess what?? the linkage is the exact same length...wtf? so i figure that since my bike was efi, that the cables were different from a carb, right? wrong...i called the dealer and the s-3 and M-2 use the same cables... so this is getting expensive.. i have bought two carbs and neither fit....my only other alternative is to buy a mikuni... and if i do that, my brand new force winder AC will probablly not fit... i shouldnt be having problems on such a simple issue... |

WW......The cable mount on the carb is needed from a sporster...It is alot taller than a big twin...I can send you a photo of the difference....Stock sporty cables are the same length as the buell ones, but big twins are different...I will photo for you tonight....Hankb... |

shouldnt the S-1 carb be the same as a sporty or M-2? i hate to spend the bucks for a mikuni, just to get a carb linkage to fit... |

if you look on the mikuni website, you can see what different kits they offer. i installed the HSR 42-11 easy kit on my bike this week. that is the buell specific kit (i found it on ebay for like 260 shipped!!) adjusting the throttle cables wasnt the EASIEST thing ever, but it worked after a moderate amount of tweaking with it. i started by unscrewing both of them all the way then slowly tightening them until when it would close all the way and not bind. the throttle opens and closes with the smallest amount of effort when both screws are under no tension. all you are attempting to do is make sure that when you pull the throttle closed, the open cable doesnt jump off the white plastic track. i did have to clip the zip ties that held the throttle cables to the frame and secured them to eachother to get them to move freely and stop binding together. i re-ziptied them when i was satisfied with the adjustments. |

thank you hank!! that explains it...however, the S-1 carb that i bought has the same linkage as the one on the twincam carb...so now, anyone have a sporty carb laying around that i can get the linkage off of?? i used to have a jewelers lathe and i could have made a small ferrele to adapt it....any other ideas anyone?? |

WW....The 1988 CV carbs used on Sporties never had an accelerater pump...Thus, they are pretty much valuless...If ya can find one of them , it should be cheap, and ya can rob the mount...Its a bolt on... Plus, I got my 2000 S3t running hot damn with the DDFI...Hmmmm....Hankb. |

I've got a CV off my '00 M2 as well. IF Joes doesn't work out, drop me a line. I had no problems putting on my Mikuni. Just some small adjustments to the throttle cables at the handlebars. It slapped right on. And my Forcewinder had no fitment issues either. |

well, i dont have a solution!!...gville harley informed me today that the bracket is no longer available....this is getting expensive...i paid a lot of bucks for a like new cv carb, to find out it doesnt fit...then i bought a cv from a board member from a 98 S-1 and it had the same linkage as i already have...now the linkage is no longer availabe... im going broke, just trying to get a damn carb that will fit... DOH!...joe, the S-1 carb i bought, has the same part number as the carb in your pic, but the bracket is different, i wonder whats with that?.. i put both of the cv carbs on ebay and im losing my butt on resale... i could have bought a chromed and polish mikuni for what ive lost on this deal....im not real keen on mikunis, as i have had several of them in the past, but ive got to do something...damn, damn, damn! |

prolly would have been...my original plan was to put one inch harley bars on the bike and the new cv would have worked with the sporster controls i bought.... maybe i should go back to that plan...the problem is, that the orientation of the master cylinder and such is different from the buell....then i would have to find a set of one inch bars that would fit with the S-3 fairing.. that could get expensive too, if i made a mistake....i see why not many are into customizing their buells, its too aggravating...im spending money like a sailor and getting no place, ive gotta quit this.. |

WW...you could use big twin cables with the mount you have, but Im not sure if the mount clears the rocker boxes...I no it had something to do with a sporty gas tank that they made the 2 different cable mounts...I thought of changing to HD controls as well, cause I really dont like the S3 switches etc....My plan was to cut a set of HD bars by the dimple and then cut the s3 bars shorter...Weld the HD ends on and good ta go...No problem with the 7/8" riser, and the HD stuff would fit fine... Just a thought...I havent done it yet, but I do have all the stuff.....Hb |

I just installed a Meecooney on my M1 and I used up all the threads on the adjusters and there is still a bit more slack then Id like. Im thinkin a guy could use a handle bar cable adjuster( the ones with a slot in them) from a bike with puny assed cable(mountain bike) and take up the slack with those. A guy could jimmy somthing quite easy...unless Im misunderstanding the problem..... |

HB, i had thought about the welding thing, or finding a piece of thin wall plastic that would fit over my current bars to make them one inch...then again, i thought about making the front end like an X-1 and doing away with the big fairing and putting a set of billet triple trees that would allow me to use standard harley risers and bars... there was an article here several years ago about putting apes on a blast... not that i want to put apes on it, im just curious what they did about the front brake line.. im thinking you would have to have a harley fitting at the handlebar end and a buell fitting at the brake end.. decisions, decisions.. |

Keep in mind that on one (or both ??) throttle cables there are springs that slide down inside the sleeves around the cable... The remote throttle cable adjuster is the only way to go.. Shown on Bad-karma's carb pics. Kit part number is 27347-96Y, or tye wrap is 10189Y and adjuster with out the spring is 27349-96Y... Also keep in mind that a clamp was added to prevent the cables from poping out of the sleeves or at the very least secure the cables with safety wire... If you are unable to obtain one of the carbs that have been offered I do have the Sporty style bracket on my spare carb. |

it seems that i do remember some springs that where on the M-2 cables... since this is an efi conversion, maybe i need other cables... my parts man said they were the same, but i have no springs on my cable ends... |

WW....Stock sporty CV carbs have NO spring on the throttle cable and DO have a spring on the return cable..In all reality, you Only need 1 throttle cable, NO return . On my 96 S2t, with the stock CV carb, i have braided cables that were meant for a 1986-2003 Evo sporty, plus a braided clutch cable ta boot from a 1991-2003... Hope this helps ya..Hb |

The cable ends on my FXD are a round bead that slips into a cylindrical piece that fits into the throttle grip. The cable ends are two different sizes where they enter the housing so the cables cannot be interchanged. But the actual throttle grip is a different size from the FXD to the Buell. The FXD uses 1" bars and the Buell 7/8", no? I wanted to put a set of Traction grips I have on my FXD but the grips would not fit over the H-D throttle grip or the clutch side bar. Jack |

Remote cable adjuster is about the only way to adjust idle on a carbed Buell depending on the aircleaner... Normal screwdriver will not work, the idle adjustment screw is a bear to get to .. |

this will explain why i cant use standard harley cables on this project unless i change to one inch bars... as you can see, both ends of the harley cable is different from a buell...i believe harley has been using this configuration since at least 1998... im either going to have to change the carb bracket, carb, or put one inch bars on the bike so i can use harley stuff..

WW 1982-95 HD controls used a threaded in cable, 2 size threads..Buell used these till 1996... 1996 -2007 Hd controls are push in like the ones in your photo..2 size pushins.. All years used an adjuster in each cable... 2008....No cables...on FL models. All Hd use 1" bars...1997 + Buells use 7/8 bars... Moral of the story..You need Hd controls,Hd cables, sporty CV carb and yer done.. Lol...Hb |
