Hello Folks, yesterday arrived my german motorcycle magazine in the mail which I was desperately awaiting since the new 1125R was going to be tested against others. MOTORRAD, supposedly Europes biggest motorcycle magazine, has always liked Buells because they were so "different". However, the score which was awarded was always lower and I cannot remember a Buell motorcycle to do well in a comparison test with them. Now the 1125R. I am convinced that this motorcycle will sell very well in Europe because of its pricing and also because Buell is "cool" over there. Plus the first racing results speak for themselves. So I was very eager to see how well the 1125 did against its competition in Europe. And I was shocked to see that -once again- the Buell came in last. Check out the Excel file to see the overall score on all of the bikes. Any comments? |

The Rotax engine deserves better scores than that. With the weak American Dollar it should be a great opportunity for Buell and Harley Davidson overseas. |

Sounds like I need to go test drive the 1098 judging by the motor stats. I can't say I have any real beef with the scores as long as it was in fact completely objective. Another thing to remember is that its all a matter of opinion. If you get someone who rides I4's all the time, guess what, they're going to have an entirely different point of view of how power should be, vs someone who rides a thumper or vtwin. Including ergos and such. I'll be busy searching at Barnes and Nobles for this mag during lunch. |

Not to worry . . the real world has a habit of correcting scores. Folks are still reeling over the Buell being names the BEST HANDLING BIKE IN THE WORLD. |

Very true Court. I was so looking forward to this months BIKE magazine coming out to read about the european launch. What a let down it was!!! Made me almost throw the dam thing out. The "review" was a whole 1/4 of a page long. They mention that Buell had fixed most of the problems but that their foot still hits the swingarm. Good god all it takes is a 5$ sheet of 3mm v and some scissors to fix that. Also they said they had to hold it down in turns BULLS---!! Thats why it has AJUSTABLE suspension front and rear. Those journos never seem to take the 5 minutes out of their lives to set a bike up. art (Message edited by bigeasy on May 02, 2008) |

The Rotax engine deserves better scores than that. With the weak American Dollar it should be a great opportunity for Buell and Harley Davidson overseas. } The Rotax engined bike (Aprilia) won their overall comparison. If you noticed the results from each section, it was all the other factors they included that sunk the Buell. |

I'd take any bike on that list. Buell should be proud to be put up against some of the best (and most expensive) bikes in the world. While the Aprilia is cool, I have to be skeptical of a system that tries to run a bunch of numbers through a computer and spits out the Aprilia as the best bike of the group. That sort of system may work for rating Hondas, but bikes like these should be rated on more visceral and less numerical factors. If this was the way all bikes were rated, none of the bikes in the comparo would exist. . . . everybody would just be riding Hondas. |

Brad - Sun has a beautiful RSV for sale cheap. It's a 2006 or 7 with the Rotax, not Aprillia motor. The salesguy I talked to said no RC-8 until Fall... heheheheheh Z (Message edited by zac4mac on May 02, 2008) |

I was so looking forward to this months BIKE magazine coming out to read about the european launch. What a let down it was!!! Yeah, I just read that as well. That must be pretty disappointing to the Buell folks. I have to say, I take nearly everything that that particular reviewer (MFG) says with a LARGE grain of salt. Especially if there's a Triumph in the mix... Bike's Triumph championing is a bit much sometimes. I wonder what that says about the state of motorcycling that folks are so ho-hum about 130+ hp bikes... That RC8 and Aprilia V4, though... whew! |

They say humans judge others within the first three seconds of meeting. It's all in appearance. If the 1125R looks were......., ummmmm, aaaaaaaaaa, less controversial it may possibly set a different tone on how people feel about the bike. The fat chick may be the smartest & nicest one at the bar but most people will never know as they moved on to a more sexy model. Not saying thats right, I'm just saying.... |

BMW, Ducati, Aprilia and others keep praying that the 1125R keeps having teething problems in the MOTO-ST series. By 37 laps at VIR (70 laps total) the 1125R had shown faster times than all competitors when it finally had a clutch problem. Europe feels the bite of the Yank machine. The younger riders just love shoving Buells in the old fart's faces. |

Sounds like the Buell bit itself. The Buell did go fast before it broke. Fastest by lap 15, but not by lap 37 (it was 2nd) and not the fastest of the race (it was 4th). Not trying to rain on a parade, just trying to get the facts straight. http://www.moto-st.com/CONTENT/Docs/2008_Round2_Mo to-STRace.pdf |
