The speedo on my Blast just started reading about 1/2 actual speed. Any ideas? |

Sean Can't help you with this one, but welcome to the board. Also search the knowledge volt here and in the blast section may have your answer waiting for you. Joe |

The speedo sensors on the Blast are known to go out occasionally. Sometimes removing it and cleaning it will fix it, sometimes it just needs to be replaced. I unfortunately do not know where the sensor is located. I think it's in the side of the transmission case, but hopefully someone else will confirm that. I don't think it's a big deal to remove it. |

There's something else to be aware of on the 2000 Blast. In 2000 the Blast originally came with a taller final drive. The rear sprocket got recalled and a shorter geared (larger) pulley was the replacement. As part of the recall, a little translator / compensator module was added between the speed sensor and the speedo. If I remember right, it's sorta near the shock, battery, etc. That may be going bad as well. I'd suggest finding that thing and bypassing it (just plug the sensor straight into the speedo). If your speed looks more correct (it'll read a few % off - but not 50%) then that's likely your issue. At that point, you can try & find another compensating dealie-bob OR replace the speedo with a post 2000 Blast speedo. -Saro |
