So, I bought this air cleaner insert for (duh) an S1 Lightning. The riddle is this: What model does it fit?? This is an OEM part, and was sealed in the factory packaging when received. First one to solve the riddle gets credit for solving the riddle!!! Whoopee!!!

I've got the catalog they were in. They came in black and silver. |

It should also fit on the S2 carbon fiber air cleaner cover, if you don't like chrome. |

"It fits the old sporty aircleaner." So, why does it say "S1 Lightning"? |

"It should also fit on the S2 carbon fiber air cleaner cover, if you don't like chrome." Right, but says S1? |

BuellGekk has the right picture. Is that your bike? My issue is, it doesn't fit the racekit, because the holes in the race kit are offset, and as far as I can tell, the factory aircleaners in this country were all breadboxes. I'm trying to find out: Was this made to fit an early race kit? Did S1's come with Sporty-style aircleaners at some point or in some country? Or, was this made to fit somebody's aftermarket aircleaner setup (buellgekk's, maybe?)? Maybe Court's collection of ancient material has a fitment description.... Oh, and thanks all for your help! |

And I'm not knocking anyone's suggestions, I've been banging my head against a wall over these same ideas, myself. |

When I get time (read as post-finals and thesis) I'll scan the catalog and post. It was a 1996 accessory. |

Ok, here's my $.02 on why this appears to fit a sportster. Guys with sportsters, because they are considered a "girl's bike" like to advertise that their sportster isn't stock and may smoke a dyna-sized Harley or bigger. I think that when you hang parts on your sportster that says "buell" or "lightning" people associate that with your bike being souped up and it may afford you some "street cred". Just a thought... |

I believe the waaay early (Court probably can and will correct me on this) race kits for the S1 were based on the S2 filter. Then someone decided to offset the filter forward for those of us equipped with knees on the right side as well as the left. Speculation... Up and up is, the part you have is a catalog accessory, not an OEM, on-the-bike-as-it-left-the-factory, piece. |

I didn't figure it was a "left the factory on a bike" part, as it's in an OE accessory package, but, with Buell, I never quite know. If it did fit some way early race kit, I'd love to get one! |

It had been on there for a day already, so i figured that noone was interested in it, because it seems like odd Buell stuff goes instantly from eBay (Want proof? Watch Race kit aircleaners for S1's. They go within hours, every time) However, I do have (as does Court, but he has a life) the OE part number, and the next time I see the insert, I will run an EZ link on it, and see if there are any other dealers sitting on one (This one was old dealer stock). Don't feel too bad, either. This one had marks and dents on it (You can see 'em in the photo), and was sent in a plain envelope. Not a cherry ebay prize, for sure. |

GranCuda, do you have an aircleaner setup that this will fit? If so, I'd like to learn about it. |

Here is what I am planning on doing, this bike has a similar set up. I am going to run a chrome ham can from a sportster and the inlay. You can get a backing plate from Nallin Racing and have them use an S2 backing plate but clock it around so it works with an S1, they get $159 for this set up with a new K&N and the hardware. Also, just got the inlay today and it looks awesome.
