I can get XB short mirrors cheap. Will they fit the S-2 fairing?

I inherited a set of XB mirrors that were used on an S3 fairing. The distance between the holes was just different enough that the studs would rub going in, but they would fit. Unfortunately that just creates another question -- do S2 and S3 fairings match?

S2 and S3 fairings are different.

Measure the XB mirror stud distance, and measure the distance between the holes on the S2. They should fit, mirrors (not being made by Buell) are usually a pretty standard spacing for the industry...

I've got both items in question and the mirrors are off my S2 right now. If I get time I will check tonight and let you know.

Thanks, I like the way they look. My S2 mirrors have the rubber covering on the hinge that keeps riding up and it looks like crap!

Here is what I found regarding the Firebolt mirrors on an S2:

The first pic shows a close approximation of the center to center distance of the mounting studs of the Firebolt mirror and my kitchen trash that I am supposed to be taking out

The second pic shows the approximate center to center distance of the mounting bolts of the S2 mirror and my wife entering my quadrant to remind me to put the toys down and take out the trash

The third pic shows the S2 mirror and the Firebolt mirror base-to-base with one of the S2 mounting bolts removed and one of the Firebolt studs placed in the tapped hole vacated by said stud. This helps to visualize the spacing difference. My current vector is moving away from my wife and the trash

The mirror mounting ear on the S2 fairing spider appears to have enough "meat" to allow the elongation of the holes, but I think the nuts used to secure the mirror on the inside will interfere with the weld bead between the mounting ear and its standoff tube. A solution to this problem may be to remove the studs from the Firebolt mirrors and use a socket head cap screw like the S2 mirrors use.

I also have an idea for a spacer to sandwich between the mirror and the fairing that uses countersunk flat head screws that would eliminate the need for elongating any holes, but I don't have time to draw it up in cad right now.

Discuss amongst yourselves.........

TK, THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORT!!! You saved me alot of drilling. It also looks like the base is way bigger than the S2 mirror. It my not lay flush on the fairing.

Hugie:

Happy to help.

The XB base is quite a bit smaller than the S2 mirror. If I get around to designing that spaer/adapter idea I have I will share it here. The idea looks great in my mind, but some questionable things have come out of there before, so.....

tom k,,, many thanks , the pictures really help.. looks like an adapter base would do the trick.. i have thought that it would be cool to put a set of mirrors with signals in the front on the s2. i have the rear signals hidden in the vents. thought that with the fronts in the mirrors it would clean up the bike a little more. aaron

Aaomy:

I'm with you on the mirrors with signals thinking. I will have to check out the 1125R at the local dealer to see what those mirror bases look like. I'm better they are the same or close to the XB bases.

I've been toying with incorporating my rear signals into the vents ever since I saw pics of yours, but I haven't gotten there yet. I ran most of last season without rear signals due to many attempts at building a light but durable custom tag mount. Mama wasn't happy when she found out about no signals.

tom if you are trying to move you signals just make sure your bulbs have about the same resistance as the stock one so your signal canceling still works.. i bought small signals then had to replace the bulb mounts in them to use larger bulbs to get every thing to function correctly.. but i like the look and it keeps me and passengers form kicking them all the time..

Aaomy, their is a voltage controller made by badlands for just this purpose of making the signals work properly. HOPE THIS HELPS.
