Hey guys, I have a 07 cityx that came stock with the sync tires. I honestly just don't trust them. I know they are a harder compound tire that is made for sport touring rather then turning but I was wondering if anyone else has had trust issues with these tires deep into turns. I want new tires but I can't seem to bring myself to spend money on tires when these only have 2k miles on them. What do you guys think I should do, and If i do get rid of them, is anybody interested in purchasing them> |

your tires should be fine. Make sure they are warmed up before any heroics. I do just fine with mine. but if you want to sell them send me a pm. |

Multiple trackdays on my wife's XB9SX w/ the Syncs. No issues, provided they are WARM before getting agressive. When they are cold, they are VERY squirrely to me. Depending on how you are riding them, you may want to "play" around a little bit with the tire pressure and warming them up and then seeing how you feel about them. Having said all that, if you still can't bring yourself to trust them, get rid of them and get something that makes you confident. $$$ spent on something that makes you feel safer/confident is $$$ well spent IMHO, regardless if it's an actual physical difference vs. a mental difference. Mid-turn, cranked over hard, is NOT the time for mental gymnastics about your tires. |

sounds more like suspension issues than tire issues... |

No, they are absolutely dangerous, don't do it. Me, being the great guy I am, will buy them off you for half price. Can we get the deal done before my next track day? Thats where I will want to use them. (in all honesty, Trojan indicated he thought those big tread blocks made things feel pretty interesting when very hot and pushed hard... in the faster half of the novice class, I came *nowhere* near the limits of the tires... so depending on how good you are, you may or may not have an issue with them). I'm running a take off sync rear now, good deal for a good tire. You won't have any problem selling them and getting something out of them, though shipping will eat a lot of your profits. |

Just do a crazy burnout with them. You will feel better.... |

Oh, and if you look at the syncs, they are on the softer end of the sport-touring spectrum. I get about 6000 miles out of a rear on an XB9... thats still really soft rubber, and I wonder if a lot of that comes from the fact that the tread depth on the syncs seems pretty thick (so it could be sport sticky, just more of it to wear). |

I switched to the Scorpion Syncs because I trust them a lot more than the stock Dunslops that came on my XB12R. I rode a friends City X one day and could not believe how confident inspiring these tires made me feel. More grip and traction, better handling and feeling in the corners. I had ordered a set for my Bolt the next day. The only reason I don't have them on my M2 right now is because the previous owner had just installed a set of Dunslop Sportmax tires the week before I got it. The only mc tires I will buy are Pirelli. |

If you don't trust the tires, get rid of them. That being said, I've ripped up some roads on the Syncs. No issues at all. But trust in your equipment is paramount to riding safe and enjoying your ride. |

I haven't seen your posted pressures. Not that I have experience with those particular Pirellis but before you throw the baby out with the bathwater, you should be somewhere around 30psi as a VERY GENERAL rule for non-racing tires that are ridden "aggressively." Remember a tire ridden at the "factory recommended" pressure will scare the bejeezus out of you when ridden hard. A tire when ridden hard at the proper (much lower) pressure will only give you a quarter to half the miles - pick your poison. |

I switched to the Scorpion Syncs too for the same exact reason as Beachbuell. They are Far better than stock Dunflops. I couldn't believe how much better my XB9 handled after the switch. But, you must be comfortable with a tire. If you don't trust them then switch them out asap. You will have no problem selling them. |

Okay so, i have my suspension tuned hard for aggressive riding but I have factory tire pressure on the tires. That could be the reason I didn't even check that. Any idea what pressure i should run at? Slaughter said around 30, but any idea exact for the scorpion syncs. I weight 160lbs I don't know if that makes a difference. Thanks so much for your help everyone btw!!!!!! |

I ran a set of syncs on my 12R and wore them out in less then 2500 miles (95% twisties). They stuck plenty well enough for me. Switched to Michelin Pilot Powers and liked the way the bike turned much better. Also got a little better millage out of the Powers. About 3k Unless you are a very fast guy todays best ST tires will offer enough traction for you. I'm running Avon Storms on my Bandit 1200 (120 rear wheel bhp). I don't have any chicken strips on them. I have never pushed the front on clean dry pavement and only on rare occasion have I spun up the rear. The last time I ran a full sport tire on my Bandit I only got 1700 miles out of it b/4 the sides were toast. I have 3500 on the storms now and they have plenty of tread left. |

I emailed our Pirelli guy who provides the racetrack service. Probably hear from him tomorrow. He'll be down at Fontana for the AMA races so he's probalby packing up for the trip... if I don't hear from him, I'll see him there on Saturday and I'll just ask. Here's what I sent him in a note about the Higbee stuff:
quote:Another totally different question from a different guy: For the Buell XB that comes with the Scorpion Syncs... what would be a good pressure to use for "aggressive" street riding or track days? (this was asked by a guy who is going to be doing a track day and JUST put on a new pair of Syncs) - this is just a buddy, NOT a racer but he said he was running "recommended" pressures and it felt wrong for him. I told him that the factory recommended pressures are for tire life, not handling. Any input would be appreciated. I hate to just tell him to start at 30/28 and see what happens… but that's what I'd do with a new-to-me Pirelli set of tires.
Like I said, I usually hear back within a day from him - except the next weekend is AMA. He raced the Latus Buell XB so he knows these beasties. |

I run 40 psi in the rear and 36 psi in the front. Somebody posted 30 psi, that is way to low for street riding and under factory spec. |

Put a set of the Skorpions on my XB9R when the horrid Dunlops gave up the ghost. Like 'em so much I'm gonna put a set on my V11 when its Bridgestones give up. BIG Thumbs Up on this tire, as they seem to have a particularly "calming" effect on crappy Atlanta city streets. |

Tommy5144 - For what it's worth. My wife's bike is setup for 160 lbs suspension wise. She's small & sometimes gets a little toooo aggressive @ trackdays, but that's just my personal opinion, since I know if she passes me, I'll NEVER hear the end of it. Having said that, the psi we used last trackday with ambient air of ~65 degrees F was: 28 psi Front 29 psi Rear On that track, on that day, at those temps, running 30/30 just wasn't getting the heat into the rubber that it needed based on how she was riding. If you can wait on getting the info back from Pirelli that Slaughter emailed above, that's probably better, but if you need to "play" now, you may want to start at 30/30 and adjust accordingly from there. Having said all of that, I still have to put in the disclaimer that if you can't get yourself to a point of trusting your tires, wether or not it's mental/physical, CHANGE them to something you can/do trust. Pushing hard in corners is NOT the place to be doing mental gymnastics worrying about your equipment, but to be focused on the task at hand. Ramble off. You may now resume your regularly scheduled programming. P.S. The information above is based on riding on the track. Using the above pressures/recommendations for street riding are at the rider's own risk, YMMV, caveat emptor, etc., etc. P.P.S. I recommend making SMALL adjustments to tire psi, keeping track of riding impression, adjustments, temperature, etc., etc. 1 psi can make a BIG difference when you are running it hard. P.P.P.S. Slaughter is right. The factory psi is for tire life. I would NEVER run factory psi on a track. And I don't run track psi on the street. I have a "happy medium" and here's to hoping you can find yours. (Message edited by p_squared on April 22, 2008) |

I have owned XBs with the Dunlops and the Pirellis and the difference is like night and day in favour of the Pirellis. |

I loved my Syncs on my 06 XB9SX. I ran them at factory spec and did all sorts of riding, mountian, highway, city, around town. I rarely ever had them slip. I got 15000 miles out of them too. So of course I got another set. I only have about 600 miles on these tires, and it has mostly been cold. But I feel like these tires do no grip as much. I thought I red somewhere that Pirellis switch to a different compound with these tires about a year ago. can anyone confirm that? Regardless if I can get almost the same mileage or better with this set of tires I will be sold for life haha |

I put them on my Firebolt, and I love 'em. I really like the fact that they stick really well on less than perfect surfaces, and when they DO start to slide, they do so in a very predictable manner. But YOU gotta like them, and if they feel weird to you, it'll be like wearing uncomfortable shoes..... |

I've had 3 backs 2 fronts. I'll get about 5000 on the back & over 10,000 on the front. Great tires once warmed up. I will say, I had the back slip out once so bad I thought I was gone. At the last moment the tire bit the rode and the bike sat right up perfect. It was a dumb mistake carving in 35 degree weather without warming the tires. Did I mention how dumb that was... Any way I love the tires and they've saved my a@@ more then once. I run 36/34 on the street. |

I had them on my city-X I alway ran them a 1-2LB lower.. I knew it would slightly effect the life span but I knew I wanted to change them at 10K... They are what they are a good sport touring tire, A good one at that.. I had 1 front and 2 rears at 10K... Went to diablo Corsa III's Love Them, BTW ***Are you getting a feeling like the back is getting loose but your not sure? I got this on occasion with these tires when they weren't warm. ***Double check your suspension the city can be weird... Good Luck... |

Try running your suspension one weight range lighter (softer). You may be getting compression/rebound chatter that you think is a tire problem. |

I think that Josh at Tigershark Racing (our Pirelli Racing provider) is already out at Fontana so I won't hear from him til he's done with the AMA weekend. HE DOES get back to people on email. If I see him and he is free for a half second, I'll ask him when I see him Sunday. |

The Diablo ARE a harder compound tire and if I recall, the carcass is a totally different design. More suitable for maybe 75% street, 25% track use. Diablo Corsa III are more suitable for heavier track usage. Amazing tire actually the Corsa III. |
