My 99' bags (inners) were prone to cracking at the rear top corner. Although my 99' was problematic with cracking MANY bits and pieces others did have a similar experience. You might want to check yours. I probably have some pictures somewhere of these cracked inners if you want them? Neil S. | ||

I've been through he whole cracking bag thing. If they are mounted right they will not crack. | ||

I thought you had. My 1st set was "mounted correctly" at the factory, I found out later that the Dealer had installed them and put too much preload on them and it caused the cracking. I learned from the 2nd set, sometimes "common sense" ain't so common! ;+} Neil S. | ||

Hi Neil I am trying to figure out if I want to use or need them on the bike, I will be giving up lane spitting, but would gain a hard bag that I can lock my helmet in, and have lots of room for other things, I have not been thinking which frame would be the best until I decide if I want add these bags. | ||

All right, I've been doing my deep breathing exercise and I bit the bullet and ordered my V35 bags  ! This what my version of a 1125rT will look like in a week or so:  So they should arrive next week. I ordered the gloss black, bracket for the V-strom and the liner bags (I have them for the ST and they are REALLY handy!). All total, including shipping they were a touch over $700. Somebody remind me that this is the VERY last BIG ticket farkle I am doing to this bike! I guess the only thing I could think of next, would be a Zero-gravity screen but, they are usually under $100 (I hope). Time to do some more deep breathing.... Neil S. | ||

Bailing wire and bubble gum, ain't that all we need???? Ok, ok maybe a little chew to hold it in place until..... Neil looks real good and will be waiting to see how you work it out, I like the bags and took some pictures of my bike with double bags on it coming home from grocery shopping. Anyway will see what problems and solutions you come across and then decide if I want to take the same route. Mike | ||

Ccryder: I can't wait to see pictures of where you put the signals. I guess the important thing is the square mounting hoops. That's what you really have to have. The rest is just attaching them to the bike and making them stable. My buddy just took his off of his ZZR1200 and mounted them up to his new jap busa. I think with your pictures and his help I'll have a chance. | ||

Bear: Did he have the V35's? The verdict is still out how I am going to mount these. You are correct about the mounting hoop.  I may run a bar between the rear most passenger peg mounting point and the hole for the turn signal. Then weld mounts between the hoop and the bar. I'll still need a mount down to where the passenger peg is to pick up a low point and a stiffener at the rear between the right and left side. This time next week I'll know a whole bunch more. Oh yeah, here are the Oberon turn signals but I have them in black.  Neil S. | ||

I just found this pict of a rack for a "Vee-Strom".  It shows details that we have not been able to see previously. Of interest to me is the cross-member that supports one side to the other, bolted in sections and, the parallelgram aspect of the loop. Although this is for the Wee-strom, it will be pretty similar to the the rack I purchased for the V-Strom. Later. | ||

Some details on the mounting points and latches. The bags is lowered on the two buttons on the rack and then pivoted towards the bike to engage the Pyramid locater and the two spring latches that grab the rack mounted to the bike.     Neil S. | ||

I just got done taking pictures of the tail light for Robert at xb tail lights and if you had said anything I could have taken pictures of it, I can take some pictures and then get them on the disc but that will take a few days. if you want me to do this let me know, I will try to explain how they are mounted, on the bottom left side of the mounting loops tubing goes to the foot peg mount and bolts right behind the foot pegs, then there are two tubings coming off of each mounting loop were you have the latch area pointed out and go to the underside of the frame and are bolted strait up to the sub frame, then on the lower right side of the mounting loops is almost a half circle bar connecting each mounting loop together, so there are 3 mounting places on ulysses and the 4th is to each other. IF you want me to take pictures let me know and I will, but have to get the film and then have them put on a disc so I can send it to you, also post a picture of the frame you have or is it the one in the picture above? Let me know what you want me to do and might be able to get you the pictures by tomorrow. Mike | ||

I can think of few ways but really need a tig welder to do it right, first is the position of the bags and think this is the biggest problem to overcome, from there I could see how to proceed and which way would be the best. Let me know your progress on doing this, if I do go this way I will buy the bags first and then see what mounting rig would be best once I got the bags right were I want them. Mike | ||

Yep, that's the way I'm heading. It's just good to have some ideas so you can be a little prepared. I'd like to have some stock material available instead of heading out trying to find this and that on a Saturday. I did scope out Lowes and they have a pretty good selection of some hot-rolled square and round tubing. that should take care of my needs for this job. Throw in a piece of 1/8" or 3/16" flat and I'm good-to-go! Sawsall will travel ;+} Neil S. | ||

Neil - I'm watching this with interest to see what you come up with. I'm still rengineering the setup for my Firebolt - I have it all figured out, just have to get around to making it at this point. The top case and side cases will all mount to big plate that latches into the rear seat location, and then a couple braces on the bottom to steady things. Won't have to worry about weight since the seat area can take it (and then some), and, aside from teh bracing, should be a pretty quick on/off setu as well. Michael: That's about the size and location I am hoping for with this set up. Unfortunately trying to scale things in photoshop etc, is pretty difficult. I think you are close but a little on the small side. We will know in a few days. Dinner time! |
