So did anybody sign up for the Inside Pass dates at Willow or Vegas? I signed up for both of them. I was hoping they had a date for Miller since I have some friends in Park City and have heard great things about the track. |

Willow and Infineon so far. I'm hoping somebody else's wife will want to go along to Sonoma, 'cause Shelly will want to go wine buying while we are at the track. I know it's early, but what do y'all think about (maybe) goin' up Friday night and getting some riding in Saturday and Sunday if we can? |

That sounds absolutely NECESSARY...no maybe about it....Al...can't you hear Stewarts Point/Skaggs Road calling????? Maybe we can talk Cheryl into going?? Socalbueller...Did a parade lap at Miller...American Sport Bike Al , myself and my Brother went to the Inaugural race there...pretty much a hot, dusty unfriendly atmosphere at that time though the track is pretty good.Americas LARGEST dangerous chemical and radioactive dump is around the corner but at least you dont need a flashlight at night! We rode past the emergency leakage sirens for the first couple of days until we found a shortcut over the mountain past the worlds largest strip mine.....OK...maybe I'm being a little critical....The stands were covered...that was nice! |

Anybody know Dale Detjen? Lived up in Tehachapi. I'm struggling to remember having met him. He was killed yesterday in an unfortunate accident on his Buell. It's rare that the TYPE of motorcycle is mentioned in the news or I wouldn't have noticed:
quote:Motorcyclist dies in crash with truck Saturday morning TEHACHAPI - A motorcyclist died Saturday morning on Willow Springs Road, Saturday morning after striking the rear of a flatbed truck, California Highway Patrol officials said. Dale Detjen , 54 of Tehachapi reportedly was riding his Buell motorcycle southbound behind the truck at 7:25 a.m. When truck driver Glenn Cooper slowed to turn in at a private driveway, Detjen crashed into the back of the truck and was ejected onto the shoulder of the road. Rescue workers airlifted him to Antelope Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
Condolences to his family and friends. He WILL rest in peace. |

Anyone else going to this new event? http://www.route-66.org/berdoo_bikes.htm I already received my wristband and poker run info. I will be checking the area out within the next month to try and get a good place to set up a picnic type tent and chairs. Should be interesting to see how many Buells we have in the Inland Empire. Ride Safe, Dale |

Hopefully most of you are aware there is a SCAB meeting tonight at the usual meeting spot....Knowlwoods off La Palma and Imperial Hiway. This particular meeting will mark the first time I can remember that through the generosity of American Sport Bike and the PR Lady at Buell,we have raffled off enough gifts to pay back the second spot costs, put up by Jerry Johnson!!!!! Now mind you,the raffles helped greatly....but what put us over the TOP was a HUGE donation from the Wonderful "BARB and NELSON"!!!! Because of this momentous occasion,I am giving up my sleeping arrangements in the Loveshack to them and staying either in the garage or outside....maybe even UNDER the garage...we'll see come July.... So folks...I hope you all can attend tonight and buy lots of raffle tickets 'cause who knows....maybe we'll actually be able to give some back to American Sport Bike , since they fund the third spot and have never been paid back a dime in all these years .....with never a complaint.....Darn ,I'm surrounded by exemplary people...maybe a little of it will rub-off on me????...hey...stranger things have happened!!! SEE YA' THERE!!!!! |

On another thing... HIGBEE is going to be racing every month at Willow (unless conflicts with MotoST) Bartels' 1125R racebike just landed in their shop and Bill Bartels will be having Shawn Higbee race it each month at Willow! Wish I had more details - maybe I'll make a phone call and find out. You all have to come to Willow this weekend. Gonna be some kinda interesting racing! |

Wow! Interesting practice day yesterday... Higbee is out running a virtually stock 1125R (except slicks and steering damper) Wind was TERRIBLE and yet on an un-sorted bike, on a track he hasn't ridden since 2000, he was running a pace that should put him in the money on the Buell and Glendale contingency classes (BOTT Heavyweight and Formula Twins) - and nearly puts him in contention in the unlimited Formula One main event against the litrebikes! Today however, we'll see if he actually does try to thrash the bike in the Formula One class. That is a LOT of abuse running 20 laps against the likes of Jeremy Toye, Jeff Tigert, Robbie Dowie and others who are pretty regular winners every month - AND who are running litrebikes with almost 60 more HP!!! Hope you can make it out to watch today. Hopefully the Glendale XBRR is running OK, the dyno crapped out when we were trying to get her tuned on Friday - and found a bad coil after much swearing and cursing at an intermittent electrical problem. Higbee was looking at some of Dixon's lap times at dinner last night and beating Dixon is not going to be trivial. Much as I'd hate to see Dixon beaten by another rider, I'd say the Twins races today are going to be amazing if both of them go head-to-head. Either way, there's an excellent chance that we'll be seeing those Buells doing some serious "Duck Hunting." Hope you can make it. Gotta leave... playing pit slave today. |

Awwww geeez. I'll write more later but just HAD to get some thoughts dumped into Badweb. Just got back from the track and Dixon pulled off after a pushrod loosened or he bent a valve or ??? MAJOR bummer This was FORTUNATELY on the pretty stock XB and NOT the XBRR that he'll race next weekend. Shawn Higbee? Higbee nearly ran home with ALL the Twins class marbles! First race (Formula One) - he used to sort out the bike a bit more and pulled in before finishing (and using up the tires) - he was up against the unrestricted displacement and unrestricted engine work bikes. Race was won by Jeremy Toye. Don't blame Shawn, he knew he wasn't in the money - besides not even the Ducatis entered this race - he was the ONLY twin! He RAN AWAY on the Battle of the Twins Heavyweight (BOTT) race. Made the win look easy. Dave - the track announcer knew he was on a stock-motored bike and was beating the pants off of the field largely of Ducati! THe Formula Twins race, there were a few racers who were starting to talk about the "Buell" - and yet, on the green flag, Shawn blasted out in the lead. With the race at the halfway point, he was a full 5 seconds in the lead and when he said he glanced back, he could see that he was far in the lead. This race, he had mounted different tires and they started to go off about lap 5 - and he slacked off a bit until Eric Nolan caught him (1098 Ducati - with a 30 HP advantage I might add) and the last 2 laps, they did seriously battle but now Nolan knew he HAD to keep Higbee behind just on the power alone (they were both pretty equal in the turns). Second place wasn't too bitter a pill for Shawn. Eric Nolan came to the pits to shake his hand and said that the only reason that he won was the difference in his highly modified 1098 and Shawn's stock motor. Going to get interesting in the Twins classes before long! That 1125R has amazing potential. This WILL BE interesting...very interesting... |

Most definitely will be getting and painting the bodywork. Realize the bike only just arrived at Bartels last Wednesday! Except for safety wire and re-worked suspension, it was basically bone stock.. Higbee should be here next month. He cannot conflict with his other contractual obligations but it looks like he'll be able to do about 5 races a year - MotoST is the main thing. First will be chain conversion. He couldn't even hit 6th gear on the front straight or T8. Suspension work is still in progress. Tires are another issue. He ran short and long races on both Pirelli and Dunlops. Jury is still out. That bike is Bill Bartels' bike, not one of the Higbee/Rossmeyer MotoST fleet so it'll be setup for sprint racing. It's going to be a good learning experience for their staff. Fun times! (Message edited by slaughter on April 21, 2008) |

First Saturday in May Woo Hoo! The Songdog Spring Rally is B A C K!!!. Well, sort of. After being shut down for what seems like an eternity, the son, Ben, is carrying on the Songdog Rally tradition that his dad, Jim, started back in 1985 or so by offering The First Annual Last Supper. This means it will always be on the first weekend in May unless otherwise directed. What this includes is a tri-tip BBQ dinner, some libations, evening campfire under the stars, some kind of music, and breakfast in the morning, all for $45. Reservations are required. Email coyotes@songdog.com or myspace.com/songdog for more info or reservations. With the absence of the Songdog Spring Rally the last several years, this time of year seems to bring us a longing to pack the sleeping bags & go for a putt over the mountains on Hwy 33 from Ojai, taking in the fresh mountain air to destination Songdog. If anybody has the May 3rd weekend free and is interested enough in going for a ride that Saturday to check out the place or stay for the BBQ, chime in here. D&J |

Our own Steve Slaughter is a Pit guy for him sometimes.....There were lots of upsets and Ben Spies beat Mladin....definetly makes for a good weekend in MY book!! |

Spies going against Mladin was a great race! 11 thousandths of a second... and Ebear is rumored to have a pic of the finish! Mladin was leading Spies by more than a couple seconds and Spies whittled it down the last half dozen laps to the end. Shocker of Shockers. The Ben and Matt show actually gave a race. Suzuki winning Superbike? Who'd have thought??? |

Update on the Songdog Spring Rally First Annual Last Supper "Reunion". BBQ is called off due to lack of response. What a shame, well, for this first year anyway. Trying to stay upbeat, remember, this is a first annual deal, meaning it's always going to be on the first Saturday in May. Also remember, this is a family run event run by motorcyclists for motorcyclists. How many motorcycle only campgrounds are there in SoCal or NorCal for that matter that are willing to offer a deal like this? Tell a friend! Let's make a party out of this next time. |
