X-post from ADVrider.com: ADV Noob Files: Taking the Uly Out in MA -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Today was THE day. Tallerman was scheduled to swing by Hill Street Garage and join me for my first ride piloting the Uly. Mucho thanks for his taking me out pillion the first two spins, turning me loose in the parking lot, and then riding sweep as I make my maiden voyage. The GSA makes a nice accompaniment to the Uly. Put in 120 miles on the Uly on a gorgeous April afternoon here in MA. 90 in the company of Tallerman, then 30 truly solo to get back home. Well, except for the squid on the Suzuki and the Harley crew that pulled up alongside at stoplights with questions and, dare I say it, quite the admiring glances at the Uly. That's right Squid, 1203 cc...and Harley crew, LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the bike. Only a few pics as I haven't mastered the art of a ride report on the road just yet. Oh, and thanks to all that gave me feedback when I was mulling the Uly purchase over. Despite being a new rider, I am +100% sure in having made the right decision. Now I just gotta hone my skillz and show the Uly the good time for which it begs. Getting geared up at Hill Street Garage - first Tallerman, then me: First rest stop, Whittier Farms in Sutton, MA (no, we didn't drink the milk for those of you that followed the news up here): While we were there, made a new friend, Nelly...he's less than a week old! I wanted to take him with me, but Tallerman didn't think it was such a good idea: A quick stop with a couple of photo ops (you'd think I was TallerGrlll the way the first pic turned out ): All in all, a fantastic day out on the road. |

Dirtgrlll, Congrats on your excellent taste of motorcycle! Yeppers, there's a lot to loke about our bikes. If you don't mind my asking, how tall are you and what is your leg inseam? I'm 6'2" w/ a 36" inseam and I just flatfoot the Uly, barely. I wish more women would ride; however, finding a motorcycle that fits is a challenge for many women. |

Thanks, Busykat!! I'm just over 5'10 and have about a 34" inseam. The MX boots allow me to get most of a foot down on either side. The Uly is VERY comfortable for my leg length and I don't feel at all as if I'm in over my head on the size of the bike. I'm hoping I'm unique enough out on the road to capture the boys' attention. |

"Oh absolutely! The best accessory for a women is a motorcycle!!".......or an older open-top CJ. Glad you're happy with your ride Dirtgrll. Lookin' good! That was fine report too. Had mine out for two short sorties today playing with suspension settings. Hope to get time to do a decent ride soon........maybe tomorrow if I can get away from outdoor domestic duties. |

Well, Ulyranger, I am the former owner of an '84 Renegade and a '98 TJ once the rust monster took over. Once divorced, however, I needed a bigger cage to transport the black labs - hence the XTerra. So now I sport the Uly and the KLX to offset the fully enclosed cage. Hope you get out for a long ride tomorrow! I've got lots of chores on my list but I figure now's the time to get fully immersed in moto exploits. It's all in the safety and building experience and muscle memory, right??? That's what I'm telling myself as the yard and the house still haven't started taking care of themselves. |

Well doesn't that figure...... I think I'm going to blow off the chores tomorrow and twist my FIL's arm to get the GS out for a ride. I know he's dying to take the Uly for a spin and I'd like to do a direct comparo to his 1150. |

there's nothing better than seeing a woman riding her own bike. i just wish my wife would get on her's a little more often. and after getting the xt, i really believe you'll enjoy that bike just because. |

there's nothing better than seeing a woman riding her own bike. "That's an accurate statement." I'm extremely fortunate. I have a wife who loves to put miles on her bike. Yesterday we had obligations, but we still managed to do a five hour ride around western Massachusetts (Route 116 from Adams to S. Deerfield is Uly Heaven!). Dirtgrlll; thanks for the report. The more you ride your Uly, the more addicting it becomes. |

Took the training wheels of my Daughters Barbie bike friday... I told her she has to learn to ride without them so she can hurry up and start riding the dirt bike! That Uly next to the GS makes the Buell look so beautifully lean, mean, and minimalist! Both are fantastic bikes, but I don't think I have ever seen a Uly look so nice until I saw it in that context... |

Hope you washed your hands after handling that calf... Just curious, why did you have the springboard out like that? Were you hauling gear? My wife loves the Uly too and I often get bumped to the BMW. Happy trails.. |

Of course! The triple tail was out from the last ride I'd done - me on pillion behind Tallerman. I don't like it in the up position and just hadn't changed it before Saturday's ride. FWIW, I flipped it down on top of the rear seat for Sunday and Monday's rides. Racked up 440 miles of pilot time this weekend - I know that's all in a day's ride for some of y'all, but it was a big threshold for me! Loved every second of it and getting more and more comfortable with the bike. Now if only this whole work thing didn't interfere with ride time... Looking forward to my first group ride on Saturday with a bunch of NH, MA, and CT inmates from ADV. Fortunately if I find I'm in over my head, I have an offer of someone to lead me through the route separate from the rest of the gang. Nice to have a back up plan! |
