Since there seems to be some more interest on making the 25r into a Bagger, I decided to start this thread. I am looking at adapting the Givi V35 bags.  I know Two_Buells and BaggerMike have spoon in this pot. Givi does not make a bracket so we will have to custom make one/ adapt one from an existing one. It would be nice to know how much interest there is on this project. The bags themselves are in the $500 range and a bracket is around $160 (not one for the 1125 but one to be adapted). I would just bet another $100-150 in time and materials to adapt an existing bracket. My idea is to use the turnsignal mounting hole and 1-2 braces off of the passenger footpeg mounting points/ mounts. This is just the begining of the design process. Blake, here is my disclaimer: I am not intending to sell the brackets. I am seeking to share information/ designs with anyone that wants them at $0.00/ zip/ nada/ no charge. If anyone wants to go a different direction then feel free to copy modify anything that comes out of this "brain-storm". I do want to try a set of Givi's but I don't want to invest $700.00 right now. I do have to do something by the 25th. (homecoming) I have a 1999 S3 with two sets of saddle bags. I need a mount and have it modified. That might me the more cost effective way for me right now. I did add a Sport Tail Trunk check it out in another thread. | ||

All of mine are one week away from done...and all using factory Buell bags...look for the pics soon! Had to delete the passenger pegs but I prefer to ride solo anyways  The frame will be the give away on the pics...all black. I'll post then! | ||

Hi Neil looks good, I think I would want them lower and forward to keep the bike more balanced looking and maybe in a little more in for lane splitting which I do allot, I did not relize how thick they are and look like they would be perfect for the bike, I just got new wire for my mig welder and was working better, I had to get thinner wire and seems to weld better, it is a flux core so no gas but can hook gas up for a cleaner weld and maybe I can do something with it, I think I am going to have to get them and see how to make them work on the bike, I really like them and need to carry more gear than I can now and also they are water proof which the bags I have just has a cover to throw over and do not even think that will work, Good job at the photo's Neil. It's not easy to add stuff like this when you have to look at it from all angles. I would like to retain two up riding. I also want to keep the lines of the tail section. This composite pict shows some subtle mods. Tweaking the bags forward, up and, rotating CCW, IMHO gives a more integrated look (bottom pict).  Neil S. | ||

Hey Two Buells so lane splitting is legal in CA, I do not know what is legal I just do it sometime when boston traffic is a mess, if I do these bags I think that will keep me from lane splitting they are wide, are you the origanal guy who found these bags or is neil or the other guy that I had do the picture for me which the saddlebags are more lower and rotated clockwise and more forward, I tried to post it but could not, I sent one to Neil and if it does not work this time I will send it to you by PM. Hi Neil I know it is not easy to do, I ride alone for many reasons so will have to give allot of thought to were and how to mount them, the bags are really wide do you think they would scrape in a turn, I see a pic of a BMW uly version and the aluminum boxes were almost scraping around the corner, I was very surprised a bike like that could corner like it was, sparks were flying. I also got t-boned on the ulysses and was hit hard enough to break my leg but the hard bag saved my leg, I almost wiped out and could not stop but seen plastic falling, I thought it was from my hard bag but must have been the car because the bag just had white paint on it, so the bag saved me from wearing a cast right now, another plus for hard bags, I am thinking of using the mounting for the rear passenger pegs to mount the bags, I would like to see all the mounts that can be purchased to get one close to what I want and can work with. I changed my mig wire today and like it better than what I had, I might be able to use it to weld something up for mounting the bags. Mike | ||

just have to make sure the bags are not too low, they could touch while leaning. I did touch my wide S3 bags a few times.  | ||

Considering the width of these bags and the lean the 25r can achieve, we do need to keep this in mind. If the bags were mounted much lower, there could be an issue.  Mounting brackets are also a concern. We need to use the main "loop" that interfaces with the bag attach points. With 3-5 "stays" it should be sturdy.  Time4work Neil S. | ||

Bear: We will see what we can do. I was also thinking about just the bags and not the top box. I just have to bite the bullet and order the bags and bracket. Just need to decide on the bracket that would be closest to fitting. It's not like I'm not doing anything else to the 25r. I should be able to finalize the Convertabars this weekend, along with the yard work (Oh Honey...... I lend the "man-power" to the yard adventures ;+)} Time2Work | ||

HI Neil cool leaning picture can you do it at 50 degrees or is that pushing it for street riding, also when cornering the suspension collapses giving even less clearance so even 45 degrees might be close, I keep looking at these pictures and like what I see except for the top case. the storage pod I have on back of my bike is small and there is one that looks like mine and allot larger and has a fiberglass body and locks and can be expanded but again for solo riding. I will try to find that storage pod but might not be able to it has been a long time since I seen it and I think they stopped making it. I am thinking if I should consider passenger seating? My son is riding now so I do not need to ride him and I also have fear of getting into a accident with someone on the back, I am looking at it both ways, with room for a passenger or not. OK this is what I am thinking of how to install a bracket, I would take off the rear foot peg holders and make a piece of flat bar to fit between the two and just would need longer bolts to put on the passenger peg mount, then the saddlebag frame could be welded to the flat bar, now on the inside of the tail was a big hole I made a piece of metal fit into it to cover the hole and think this would be a good place to mount the cross brace and could be bolted to the sheet metal, I have another idea'r and is so it can come on and off easy and would lock to the bike by a plate that would lock in like the rear seat so I would make a plate that the saddlebag frame could be attached and also have the rear seat attached, then the other end of the frame could slide into a bracket that would be made attach at the rear foot pegs and would be an easy on and off frame. Neil I have two pictures of frames and one is confusing and says it is for all three bags but is not that big, I will send you the pictures. Mike | ||

Neither of those are for teh V35 - those only do the Monolock cases. I have another idea'r and is so it can come on and off easy and would lock to the bike by a plate that would lock in like the rear seat so I would make a plate that the saddlebag frame could be attached and also have the rear seat attached, This is exactly what I'm doing. I already have my top case mounted to a spare passanger seat pan for eay on/off. The next step is to attach the side case mounts to it. I have a Firebolt, so it's a little different but not much. | ||

We need to figure out which side racks will work with the least modifications, here is a list of bikes I got from http://www.motoemporium.com/givi/givi35.html another site to see Givi mounts http://www.rlmotorcycles.com/cgi-bin/eShop/index.cgi?page=Givi_Products.htm&product=Givi&cart_id=702923.80158 Givi PLX sidecarriers are currently only available for the following bikes: BMW F800, '06- Honda VFR800 VTEC, '02- Kawasaki Ninja 650R, '06- ** Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom (does not fit DL650) Yamaha FZ6, '04- ** Yamaha FZ1, '06- PLX sideracks hug the tailsection of your bike tighter than any previous mounting system from Givi, and are compatible only with Givi PLX sidecases like the Givi V35. Not compatible with Givi Monokey sidecases. Some bikes need the top rack to mount the side case racks. The Yamaha FZ6 needs both PLX351 & top case FZ351 mounting hardware & Ninja 650R requires FZ445 Monorack for proper mounting of V35 side cases Here is a picture of the BMW F800, '06 mount for the Givi PLX v35 bags. Neil are the prices all the same for the frames, I am thinking if it is then buy the cheapest frame, I did not like the welding on one of the frames I seen looked like one of the mounting tubing was not welded all the way around, and if I am doing the welding I think going with the cheapest frame is best, I was thinking of making the whole frame myself but then seen the two mounting pins on the bottom so I will probably just buy the cheapest frame. I suck at making choices so I have to look and think some more. Neil do you know a website that has all the pictures of the mounts? also are you just going with the saddlebags or plan on the top bag to? I do know where I am going to mount the frame to, top and bottom passenger foot peg mounts and under the rear seat between the tail light and battery. I am still open for other ways of mounting the frame and thinking of stripping the rear to just the sub frame and then I could see better how to mount it. Anyway I will keep thinking and will look at all the different frames to see which would be best and let you know. I am going to look at both bikes and try to figure out the strongest way to mount the bags and will let you know what I think tonight. Mike | ||

I forgot to mention I read about lane splitting with these bags and that is not good, they said two bikes riding side by side almost have to ride on the road lines, so I can kiss that good by with these bags on my bike. | ||

Neil on your pictures I would say the going down 4, 5, 6, look good, I have a question has anyone thought about reversing the mounts so the right is on the left, and would the bags mount both ways? this could make a difference if the bags can go either way then we can look at the mounts reversed and how they would hook up being reversed. Just a thought? The ulysses frame mounts to the foot peg mounts and two to the frame strait up and one in the rear to each other and curved for tire clearance and is super strong. Mike | ||

I'm "1125 curious" but every time I think I could do without bags they come in handy. The Uly is too "functional". This is interesting, though. I'd prefer something narrower, but this is definitely worth keeping an eye on. Nice work! | ||

Easy you can get like suit case bags that look nice and are thinner but these bags match the bike. |
