I wonder if the guy that crashed will be charged for the fire effort? I have read how a lot of mountain rescues are being charged to the person needing the rescue.
That sucks. At least the guy was OK - whoever he was. Said he "walked away" from the crash.
I can't believe a little crash could have that much impact! The folks interviewed don't seem that concerned though - they seemed quite sure they'd get it under control.
Just one more reason now for people to be all against motorcycles on the Dragon.
Where were all the cops????? They carry fire extiguishers they could have put it out before it got too big. O yeah they were probably writing some dumb ass ticket for a license plate being a little off center.
Rumor has it that the cops are being reasonable there with tickets these days. IMHO, thats a win / win. No point in harassing well behaved motorcyclists, but on the other hand the first time I was at the gap (in the old days) I didn't have much fun seeing people on high end sport bikes dragging a knee through a blind corner at 50 mph.
Being a great rider doesn't help you see through a blind corner, and at that lean angle, when things go all pear shaped when you see whats around said blind corner, you are going to end up sliding across my lane at some high rate of speed...
Anyway, one of the articles pointed out that the problem was that the place the bike crashed was difficult to get access to to get water on. If you have been in the area, thats pretty plausible... some of those hills / woods / cliffs could easily swallow a motorcycle and it could be a LOT of work to get down to where it's at.
