The service writer at my Dealership is a real likable guy. They do have trouble with him actually speaking though and he just says what ever he wants to without knowing what he's talking about. Like when speaking about the 1125R concerning any problem, he says, "Their all that way". (my dealer has only sold one... to me). Or when looking at my Uly's shifter shaft, tell me that little spinning piece of rubber is the seal itself that has pushed out.

So, (if you are still reading) I have this seemingly strange thing with my ignition switch that my likable service writer has informed me that they are all this way.

With bars straight (this just helps me with my point) I can turn the key towards lock and the head lights will come on and a relay in the aft relay box will come on. The key will be pointing right at the "P" in "PUSH" and of course will not go into "LOCK" because the bars are straight. Sometime I might have to jiggle the key for this to happen, sometimes not. One time while showing a friend, I was was able to engage the starter. Neither my ULY nor my Long do this.

I used to work in a factory in Quality Assurance. When a factory working would tell me "Their all that way". It usually meant that they were all wrong. So I want to ask:

  • Do any of your 1125R's do this?

Eye "tink" its broke maun.

That switch may be the "root cause" of many of the "dead battery with no rhyme/reason" issues.

I have asked a couple of times if MAYBE the key was set to Park, instead of Lock.

I don't lock mine very often, and I haven't had any battery issues... coincidence?

PS sorry Loretta's starting to look like your 1125, not done yet.

: )

Bad switch, mine doesn't do that.

Hey what are you doing in my garage, Oh wait, not dropped pegs, the Milled Throttlemeisters and the Zumo. Looks nice without rear pegs. Didn't you need those for bag mounting?

Any, I never lock my ignition either. I just noticed it the day I brought it home and it's been bugging me, especially since Mr. Service Writer told me their all that way.
Thanks for checking Zac.

Anyone else?

I have a Uly peg on the other side, waiting for the right side to come in.
Also waiting on a Valencia Orange Translucid airbox.

I capped the rear peg mounts with an aluminum bar for my tailbag straps.

I polished the frame and swingarm after about a dozen coats of clear lacquer, blends MUCH better with the black now.

Another apology for the hijack....

Bear - the one on the floor here goes to the P in Park, no further, with the bars straight ahead. No lights, no relay - I have to turn the bars to the left to get it to drop into the "lock" position before it'll do that.

Could be bad switch...could be misaligned fork lock mechanism.

Joe: it goes to the P in Park with the bars straight? That's not good either.

switch says Park, Lock, (push), Off, ON with detentes in Park, Lock, Off and On.

With the bars straight and starting at the off position, I cannot get to park. It's stops right about the "P" in "Push", and that's where I think I have the trouble.

I played with mine and it too turns all the way to the "P" of "push"....but it does not allow for the bike to fire

Thanks Bobup for that. Does anything turn on when you are at the "P" for "Push"?

Ratbuell, I knew that's what you meant. Did you have any thing turn on at that point? Wiggling the key perhaps.

Thanks guys for checking. It's sad but I have to collect data to get around my likable service writer and or dealer so as to make Buell aware that this MAY be a problem. But again, this is MY guess!

I have trained myself to always turn the key al the way to the left then back one Similar to finding neutral from a higher gear. all the way in one direction then back up one.

Nothing on ours either, I jiggled and wiggled (and even moved the key around some, LOL) and no lights came on, no pump cycled.

Thanks for the reports, this is exactly what I need to show that it may not be acceptable. Before I could get back to a dealer though, Buell Customer Service called me. They had seen my post and wanted to let me know that I should have it changed out, and that they are going to studying the switch back in WI.

How cool is that? Thanks to you BMC for monitoring and caring. Unfortunately, I'm on the "road" till Sunday working. (MYNN)

Way cool, Bear.
They ARE catching up and taking care of the details now.
I can't imagine how hectic things have been in East Troy for the last YEAR.
Hope the honchos get to take some decompression vacations now...

Gotta love this Company and their machines.

Just to update, Buell called my Dealer right away and told them to order an ignition switch and a new set of mirrors. The switch is in, but I'm not.(I'm in Burbank at the moment).

So All I have to do is schedule the bike in for few days. It will be very hard to part with!

About the mirrors, I did mention them when I was chatting with the service rep. He thought they shouldn't keep blowing back.

Thanks guys for the info you gave me about your bikes. And a bike thanks to Buell staff for Caring. It's one of the reasons that I would easily buy any of my Buells over again right now.

Just a finial update:

Pick up the 11 today. It was ready four days ago, but I just couldn't get out there. They had installed a new ignition switch along with a new fuel cap and seat release key slot so they would all be keyed the same. Grove's did a great job.

They also put on new mirrors. The new mirrors blow back more easily than the original mirrors. So that's not good. But they tried.

Also I think they re flashed the ECM, but it runs about the same. Maybe even stumbles more at 3k than it used to, but not much more.

The important thing was the ignition switch and getting that back to BMC so they can study it as it might be a clue to other symptoms.

And dats dat

Bear - if the mirrors work OK but just blow back, you can tighten the stalk by hammering the rivet a little.
Somebody also had success with contact cement I think.

I like my Firebolt mirrors.
